We encourage coaches to go to www.baseballrox.com and check out the videos. These are great instructional videos about batting, catching, pitching, drills, fielding, base running and defense.

When applying as a coach, in either House or Rep, you must pass in a copy of your Criminal Records Check. You are not permitted to coach without it.

If you would like to coach a Rep team resumes must be emailed to sackvilleminorbaseball@gmail.com by the end of December. Resumes must include your NCCP number. Names for Rep coaches will be posted in the Spring.

Sackville Minor Baseball encourages all coaches to take their Level 1 certification. To coach Rep baseball or to coach in recreational or Rep regionals/provincials you must have your certification.

Check with Baseball Nova Scotia for dates when these sessions will be offered (usually in the Spring). Our Association will reimburse any of our coaches (if you have your receipts) for their Level 1 certification fees.

COACHES CONDUCT/RESPONSIBILITY

1) Treat everyone fairly regardless of gender, place of origin, color, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
2) Direct comments, help or criticism at the performance rather than the athlete.
3) Consistently display high personal standards and project a favorable image of baseball and of coaching.
4) Refrain from public criticism of fellow coaches
5) Abstain from the use of tobacco products while in the presence of athletes and on the fields.
6) Abstain from drinking alcohol when working with athletes. There should be no smell of alcohol on breath when on or near the field.
7) Refrain from the use of profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language on or near the fields.
8) Ensure that the activity being undertaken is suitable for the age, experience, ability and fitness level of the athlete and educate athletes in contributing to a safe and fun environment.
9) Treat opponents and officials with respect both in victory and in defeat and encourage athletes to act accordingly.
10) Encourage athletes to uphold the rules of their sport and the spirit of such rules.
11) Communicate and co-operate with the athletes parents, involving them in decisions pertaining to their child's development.

                         COACHES MUST

1) Ensure the safety of the athletes with whom they work.
2) Respect the athlete's dignity.
3) Never advocate or condone the use of drugs or other banned performance enhancing substances.
4) Never provide or condone the use of alcohol or tobacco.
5) Never become intimately involved with their athletes.
6) Never use or threaten verbal or physical behaviors that constitute abuse or harassment.
Definition of harassment - harassment takes many forms but can generally be defined as behaviours, including comments and or conduct, which are insulting, intimidating, humiliating, hurtful, malicious, degrading or otherwise offensive to an individual or group of individuals or which creates an uncomfortable environment.
