South Lyon Unified Varsity Hockey: Team Rules & Academic Eligibility

Team Academic Eligibility

To simplify the eligibility for the SL Unified Varsity Hockey team:

As stated on the report card, the school has a minimum GPA requirement of 1.7 with no E's for any student to participate in any Varsity Sport.

However; the South Lyon Unified Varsity Hockey Team has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 with no E's. The semester marking period (most current) determines the eligibility for any student who wishes to play in the next term sport.

However, if a player is ineligible for the Off-Season team (less than 2.0 GPA or any E's on his last semester marking) and he improves his GPA on the 1st marking period to 2.0 or higher with no E's, he then will be eligible to tryout for the Winter team (which begins Nov. 2). It will then be a requirement to keep the GPA at or above the 2.0 threshold to retain team eligibility. The Winter team is the official Varsity sport.

 2011-2012 League Rules

 Neckguards:

There has been a revision to the neck guard rule this year, allowing the neck guard to be part of an undergarment. Any neck guard that shows the BNQ certification is eligible, please make sure your son’s neck guard has this certification prior to tryouts. 

Enforcement of Profanity: 

There will be greater attention to the enforcement with profanity.  The officials will be assessing a minor, a game misconduct and possibly a DQ which means an additional two game suspension minimum.

Every Thursday the NHS offers free tutoring after school in the SLHS commons area- or if you need more assistace,please contact Ms. McCloskey or Ms. Yenglin or refer to the attached tutor list. The Tutor list also includes adults referred by SLHS to assist you.  Cost for the adult tutors varies.
