AA
AA is for children that are 5-6 years old on May 1, 2009. AA is a machine pitch division that focuses on player development.

AAA
The AAA League is composed of 7 and 8 year old players and a limited number of 9 year olds based on evaluated ability. The number of AAA teams will vary according to the number of players registering each year. The AAA League operates in a less formal, structional format. All players get equal playing time and the time to try all positions on the field as each player is ready to do so.

Practices are spent learning and practicing new skills. A machine is used to pitch the ball, which allows for a more controlled hitting environment so the players can concentrate on learning to hit the ball with a lessened fear of being hit by a stray pitch. With more hitting opportunities, there are also more opportunities to field the ball. A round-robin batting order ensures that all players are involved in every game.

Minors
The Minor League is composed of a limited number of 8 years olds and 9-12 year olds based on evaluated ability. The Minor League system is designed to help our youth learn and improve their skills with other players of similar skill level. The number of Minor League teams is determined by the board of directors based on the total number of players registered in the program. Every attempt is made to keep each team roster to a maximum of 15 players. Minor League teams are disbanded after each season and players may play on a different Minor League team the following year. Minor League players will complete tryouts at the end of April. The game schedule runs from early May until the end of July.

The Minor League Draft Process
Once the Major League team rosters have been filled, the remaining 9-11 year old players and any 12 year old players who have chosen not to join a Majors team, are then drafted by the Minor League teams. Players are selected according to ability with an attempt to balance the talent amongst teams. Teams are redrafted every year.

Majors
The Major League is composed of a fixed number of teams as determined by the board of directors. Players are drafted for a team via tryouts. Any player not drafted by a majors team will be placed on a minors team. Each team carries a roster of 12 players. Each team may have no more than 8 twelve-year-olds. The balance of the roster is made up of 11 and 10-year-olds. Once a player is selected for a Major League team, they remain on that team for the remainder of their Little League career. The game schedule runs from the end of April until late July. There will be a break in mid-July for the All-Star tournament. Each Major League team plays at least 2 games per week. Not all 12 or 11-year-olds are capable of competing at the Major League level. However, a rule enacted by Little League Baseball beginning with the 2008 season, stipulates that any 12 year old player must be placed on a Majors team. Parents who prefer that their child not play in the Major League system may specify so at registration. The child will still need to attend a tryout to be placed on a Minor League team.

The Major League Draft Process
Following tryouts, majors’ team managers will draft those 10-12 year old players who they think are of Major League caliber, filling out the roster spots vacated by last year’s 12-year-olds. Those 10 and 11-year-old players who are not drafted by a Majors team, and any 12 year old players who choose not to be placed on a Majors team, will move into the Minor League. Drafting positions are determined by the team’s final position in the previous year standings, with the last place team drafting first. This process is done in an attempt to equalize the talent among the teams and maintain a competitively balanced league.

All-Stars
Starting right after July 4th the district All-Star tournaments begin. We field 3 All-Star teams: a 9-10-year-old team, 11-year-old team, and a 12-year-old team. The process for choosing the teams is as follows. The players in the Majors vote for the 11 and 12 year olds and the top 6 vote getters are on the rosters. The Majors Managers and player agent choose the balance of the rosters. For the 9-10 year old team, once again the Majors managers and players agent choose the 10 year olds from the Majors, and the Minors managers give input as to which 9-10 year olds in the Minors are the top talent. All 3 teams are chosen by June 15, and begin practicing together at that date.

If there is a conflict between the players’ regular season team and All-Star team before the district All-Star tournament begins, the regular season team should take precedence. Once, the district tournament begins there will be no conflict with the Majors teams, but the Minors players may have some conflicts depending upon how well and how far their team goes in the district tournament. These teams are picked to compete at the highest level, and if any of our teams win the district tournament, the state tournament will follow the next week. The 12 year old team has the opportunity to go all the way to Williamsport, PA and win the Little League World Series shown on ESPN and ABC in mid to late August.
