Sky Valley Little League is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization serving the Monroe, Sultan and Skykomish School District boundaries.

Fields at MHS

I just wanted to pass it along that the School Board will be making some tough decision in the next month or so about a possible bond issue that the district may run next Spring for improvements at many of the schools in the district.  One of the major items they are considering is whether or not they should include in that bond a $5 million dollar (or so) expense to turn the 3 unusable high school fields into a baseball field, softball field, and an all purpose field so that we can keep all of our high school teams here at MHS, both for practice and for games (I am told this includes a covered batting cage area).  The fields will be done in synthetic turf, like the football field, and will have lights for night use and would be open to the community when we are not using them for our programs. The bond will also include a large facility that could either be purposed for wrestling/PE or for a new weight room and the wrestling program would move into the existing weight room and have their own practice facility.  This structure would also include plenty of covered storage.

Anyway, I believe that the decision to include this particular item in the bond will be a tough one for the school board and could go either way.  There are lots of different needs that the district has, many of them very expensive, and this one could get lost in the prioritizing of what is most important.  I am e-mailing you because it is in our best interest to get the word out to community members and parents in our programs to help convince the school board that this item is something that would be of great benefit to our kids, our programs, and the community as a whole.  The parent/community support that can be seen at the next few board meetings will definitely help the cause.  Every board meeting there is an opportunity for audience comments and it would be great to get some folks to attend and share their thoughts.   I think it would be especially powerful if we had softball parents/players attend a board meeting to share your thoughts on the importance of this item.  The next board meetings are on November 9th, 23rd, and December 14th.
