The origins

The League was formed in 1992 to develop and promote girls football in the Sheffield area, obtaining sanction to operate from the Sheffield and Hallam County Football Association.

Starting with just 8 Clubs, it has developed over the past 7 years into a Regional League, with a catchment area stretching from Chesterfield in the south to Bradford in the north, and from Huddersfield through to Hull in the east.

In the current season (1999/2000), there are 25 Clubs registering 1000+ players with the League, to some 65 teams at Under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s. The League has operated a series of tournaments for players in the Under 10’s age bracket, 220 players in the five held so far this season.
