Coach Bios

We have a great group of coaches at Skagit Volleyball Club this year!  Check out their coaching bios below!  We like to pair multiple coaches for each team to provide better individual instruction and flexibility.

John Moore will be coaching in his sixth year for Skagit this year, having coached the same core group of girls with his wife Sarah from 7th-11th grade.  This is John's first year taking a team without Sarah, who recently joined the coaching staff at Mount Vernon High School.  John is thrilled about returning to coach U14s this year, as he has spent the past couple of years with U17 and U18 teams.

Danielle Wegner is excited to be helping John with the U14 Black team this year! Danielle graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2013 after playing a multitude of positions on the varsity squad, and is currently a defensive specialist for Skagit Valley College. Danielle played club for Skagit VBC for 3 years.

Aaron Young is entering his second year coaching for Skagit Volleyball Club, after helming the U14 Cubs team last season. Aaron is new(ish) to coaching, but not to volleyball and working with youth. He is a substitute teach in Sedro Woolley, Burlington, and Conway. In the past few years he's gotten to help out here and there with summer volleyball and camps with Sedro Woolley and Mount Vernon schools. He played volleyball competitively for 20 years, including 10 years spent as a setter of a highly competitive men's team. He is also an active beach volleyball player. His love for the game rubbed off on his team last year, as they all ended up spending most summer nights at the sand courts this year, and we are thrilled to have him back.

Brittany Fitzmaurice-Fager (she got married this summer!) graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School in 2009, where she was the varsity setter for the Tomahawks. Brittany spent a number of years as a setter for Skagit VBC, where she was coached by Charlie Guildner. Brittany just finished her first year as the head coach at Marysville-Pilchuck, where she led the team to the state tournament after entering the district tournament as the bottom seed!  Prior to that, Brittany was the JV coach at M-PHS for two years, and has also coached for Lake VBC.  Courtney is Brittany's little sister, and the varsity setter for Marysville Pilchuck this year.  Courtney will be helping Brittany this year.

Kailyn Morse is a 2011 grad of MVHS who played club for Skagit for 6 years! Kailyn spent two years as a varsity outside hitter, and is now playing outside at Whatcom Community College. Kailyn got her first taste of coaching last year when she led the U15 team through a wonderful season, and is back for more!

Kirsty Croghan is currently the C team coach at Anacortes High School, after spending several years working in the LaConner volleyball program.  Kirsty graduated from Coupeville High School and has previously coached for Skagit VBC.

Alicia Guildner is the club director and coach of the U17 team this season.   Alicia lead the U16 team last year, and 14s in 2012.  Prior to that, she assisted with multiple teams within the club.  Alicia played club for Skagit for 6 years, from 2001-2006.  She was a two year varsity setter at Mount Vernon High School, and has stayed involved in the sport since then by coaching and reffing.  In 2009, she was the U16 head coach of Forest Grove Ohana in Forest Grove, OR.  Alicia is also the Tulip Festival Tournament coordinator.

Charlie Guildner started Skagit Volleyball Club in 1995.  Since then, he has spent 2 years as the head coach at Mount Vernon Christian School (98-99), and a multitude of years helping with the Mount Vernon High School program (on and off between 2002-2014), where his wife, Debbie, was the head coach for nine years.  Charlie has coached club at every age and skill level, and will be helping his daughter, Alicia, with the U17 team this season.

Stephanie Morrell coached U16 and U17 at Skagit in 2007 and 2008, and was the head coach of the U13 team last year, in 2013.  She was a three year varsity setter and team captain at East Valley High School and played club volleyball for Team Yakima and the Cascade Volleyball Club.  She also coached U18 at SIVA in 2009 and was a camp coach at the 2009 NBC Volleyball Camp in Spokane.  Steph started a new job this year, so since she cant commit to being a head coach, she is excited to be an assistant at the 16s level!

Debbie Guildner just finished her final season as the varsity coach at Mount Vernon High School, where she coached for nine years (2002-2009, 2013-2014), and led the team to state appearances in 2007 and 2013, their only two appearances since 1996.  Prior to being the head coach, Debbie was the JV coach for six years (1995-1998, 2000-2001).  Debbie coached volleyball at Sno-King Lutheran School shortly after she graduated from college.  In college, Debbie participated in volleyball in track at PLU, before finding a niche in crew, where she was a member of the best flyweight rowing boat on the west coat.  Debbie has coached club at all age levels and abilities, and is excited to help work with the younger teams this year.
