Sunday morning - 8:00am - Holiday Weekend - arrive for the game by 7:00am - hotel breakfast - hotel fire drill Saturday night -are you awake yet? That seemed to be the question everyone was asking in game 3 of the Veterans Day Classic. A seven inning contest that added a few new gray hairs to everyones head!

The game deadlocked at 0-0 through 6 innings. Starting pitcher Kyle Mosbrucker did an outstanding job holding off the Dawgs offensive attack. Nate Garcia came on in relief and also did and outstanding job.
Defensively for the Vipers Jason Martin made 2 great catches in right field to rob the Dawg hitters of base hits.

The Vipers almost turned a triple play in the 5th. With runners at 1st and 2nd, Kyle fielded a ball off of the mound, threw to Alex at 3rd. Alex then threw to John at 1st and John threw back to Alex at 3rd. The Vipers got 2 outs at 3rd, the runner at first beat out the throw and was safe at 1st.

Offensively, the Vipers had runners on base in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings but were unable to score any runs.

In the top of the 7th was when the Vipers got on the board. Tommy Medica and Dan Dyer both had base hits. John Irby then laid down an sacrafice bunt to move the runners over and Nate Garcia hit a hard grounder up the middle for a 2 RBI hit. That put the Vipers ahead 2-0.

Nate then came in to pitch in the bottom of the 7th. He picked a runner off of 1st base for a huge out in the inning and fielded the final infield pop-up to end the game.

Final Score 2-1 Vipers - parental and coaches "oos, ahhs, and what was that's?" - too many to count!

In a contest that was called after only 5 innings, the Vipers defeated the Ravens by a score of 19 - 0. Pitching the entire game for the Vipers was Nate Garcia. He did a great job.

The Vipers only scored 1 run in the first inning on a hit by Dan Dyer, a balk, stolen base and an RBI by John Irby. Alex Kalogrides started the 2nd with a base hit. David Gonzales, Jason Martin and Brett Helmonds all followed with RBI's. Tommy Medica ended the inning with an RBI Double.
The score after 2 was 5-0 Vipers.

In the 3rd the Vipers really opened it up. Dan Dyer, John Irby, Kyle Mosbrucker, Nate Garcia, Alex Kalogrides and Yasser Clor all had RBI base hits. *THE INNING WAS HIGHLIGHTED BY YASSERS DIVING SLIDE BACK TO 1ST BASE!* The inning continued with base hits and RBI's from David Gonzales, Brett Helmonds, Mitch Yanez and an RBI walk for Jason Martin.

The Vipers batted through the line up almost twice. By the end of 3 the score was 18 - 0. Every Viper on the team had been on base and every Viper on the team had at least 1 hit.
*********************************************

Championship game was played at 6:00pm Sunday evening. The Vipers had an 8:00am game and a 1:00pm game earlier in the day.
They were tired, but the break seemed to help them recover and relax.
Pitching an outstanding game for the Vipers was Dan Dyer. He pitched 5 solid innings and was relieved by Yasser Clor in the 6th. Both pitchers did a great job keeping the Pirates guessing and frustrated!
Viper catcher Tommy Medica had an outstanding game as well. Tommy threw out 2 runners attempting to steal 2nd base. He almost caught a 3rd on a very close play. Shortstop Nate Garcia gets the assist on both, applying the tag before the runners could reach base.

The Vipers offense got started when lead off batter Tommy Medica was hit by a pitch. Dan Dyer followed with a base hit and John Irby walked. With the bases loaded, Nate Garcia hit a slow roller to second base, the throw went home but was off-line and Tommy came home to score run #1. On the next play Alex Kalogrides hit a ball to 2nd base. Once again the throw went home and was errant and another run scored. Yasser Clor had a base hit and David Gonzales had an RBI in the inning as well.

The score remained 3-0 Vipers through the 3rd inning. The top of the 3rd was highlighted by 3 good Viper defensive plays. Mitch Yanez made a nice play at 2nd base, John Irby made a great stop at 1st and Dan Dyer made a nice play from the mound to end the inning. In the bottom of the 3rd the Vipers manufactured a run. Alex Kalogrides got on base with a bunt, Yasser Clor hit a high fly ball above the lights that was dropped. David Gonzales then got to first on a fielders choice. With runners at 1st and 3rd David started to steal second base, the throw went to 2nd and Alex stole home.
That made it 4-0 Vipers after 3 innings.
In the 4th inning Dan Dyer had a base hit and stole 2nd base. Kyle Mosbrucker brought him in with an RBI base hit to right.

In the 5th the Pirates got 1 run on 2 hits and Viper Jason Martin made a great catch on a hard line drive to 2nd base. In the bottom of the 5th Alex Kalogrides and David Gonzales teamed up to score another Viper run. Alex smashed a double to left and David brought him in with a RBI sacrafice fly.

In the 6th, Yasser had 2 big K's and Tommy made a beautiful throw down to 2nd to get a runner attempting a steal.
The Pirates game ended with a beautiful looking K on a slow curve from Yasser.

Great Game Vipers!
