Vipers Win 2005 Summer Series!
With a 10-2-1 record, the San Jose Vipers took the championship at the 2005 Summer Series Wood Bat Tournament in North San Diego. This week long 20 team tournament consisted of 3 days of pool play followed by double-elimination playoffs. After 6 games of pool play, the Vipers were seeded 4th (the Vipers tied DSA Mustangs, defeated EDH Vipers, Redwood Empire Giants, San Diego Sundevils, and Fresno Red Wave, and lost to Washington Wave).
In the first game of the double elimination playoffs, the Vipers defeated Norcal with a score of 8-0. The next day the Vipers won the DSA Mustangs and then lost to the number 1 seeded team, Baden Baseball, in the third game. Now in the losers bracket, the Vipers had to play 4 games the next day to win the championship. In the first game of the day, the Vipers won the San Diego Sundevils 11-3. The Vipers then won their second game against the Boys of Summer. In the third game of the day, the Vipers defeated Baden Baseball who they had lost to the previous day. The Vipers then went to the championship game and played their fourth game of the day. The Vipers defeated the San Diego Gamers 3-0 and were awarded the championship.
Thanks to the players and coaches for a great week of baseball! You showed us what teamwork, dedication, and leaving it all on the field means! Thanks to the Vipers and Vipers parents who were able to make it this week. And a big "Thank You" to our host, Phil Singer, who put on a great tournament in North San Diego!
