St. James Speed Skating Club: Year End BBQ

YEAR END BBQ SUN APRIL 26/09

Well it is that time of the year again folks.  Mark you calendars and get ready for the phone calls!

It's Bar-B-Que time, or at least time to start thinking about our annual Awards, windup, and silent auction celebration.

Just to get the gears in motion. Here are the plans so far!  We will let you know if things change along the way.

Where: Kirkfield-Westwood CC    165 Sansome Ave

When:11:30 - 3:30  Sunday April 19th, 2009.

What: BBQ and Pot Luck, SJSSC Awards and recognitions, Silent Auction,  and toomuch fun! 

**The Carter and The Boyd families are hosting the Silent Auction:  for thosewho are new to the club, this is a fun auction and is one of our few fundraisers.  We ask that each family bring one or more items that can beused in the auction.  The Winnipeg version of Vanna White is on board this year to act as the hostess. Please contact either family for more information or shopping ideas. megski@mts.net  or cwsboyd@mts.net Keep an eye out for those saleitems....we will start collecting them in Early April

**TheBuffet Babes are ready to strike again. Be ready to contribute to the Pot Luck! Caroline Boyd and Bev Petry along with Chris Deckert are the main Babes for this one.  You will be hearing from us soon.  We may need at least 3 more volunteers to step forward if you can.  Many hands make the job lite! And you get to wear an apron!

Year End Trophy Presentations at BBQ

Cradle Awards

Cradle skaters who participate in classes and enter development or age class meets throughout the speed skating, receive awards.

Long Track (1974-2009) 

· Must participate in  60% of Long Track (LT) development meets.

· Must participate in 50% of MSSA sanctioned age class meets

· Personal best race times to have improved from the previous season in Two, age class appropriate, middle distances.

· Eligible classes include Bantam, Midget, Juvenile, Junior and Senior

· Race times from out of province meets apply provided meet protocols are obtained by the club. \Winner is determined by calculating the average percent improved for two distances.

· Winner is determined by calculating the average percent improved for two distances.

· Calculations are complied by club statistician and reviewed by at least one other designated club member. /blurb/picture

Short Track (1984-2009)

· Must participate in  60% of Short Track (S  T) development meets.

· Must participate in 50% of MSSA sanctioned age class meets

· Personal best race times to have improved from the previous season in Two, age class appropriate, middle distances.

· Eligible classes include Bantam, Midget, Juvenile, Junior and Senior

Lorne Benson (1983-2009)

· One skater in the club receives this award each year

· Skater must participate in 60% of classes. If attendance records are not kept, coaches will verify attendance.

· The club statistician complies a list of skaters showing improvement in all applicable distance raced over the previous season.

· Award winner is chosen from the list provided by the club statistician

· Emphasis is placed on a positive attitude, cooperative nature and good sportsmanship at meets and training sessions.

· Eligible classes include second year Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget.

· Award winner is deterined by the club coaches

· Previous winners will not be eligible for this award.

St James Cup (1996-2009)

· This award is presented to the skater who displays the best sportsmanship.

· At the club windup, the club statistician takes a poll of all club skaters.

· Each club skater has the opportunity to vote for one skater

· The skater who receives the most votes wins the award

· In the event of a tie, the award is shared jointly

· The previous year’s winner is ineligible
