St. Joan of Arc Football

Coach Murray
SJA Chargers

I have been truly blessed…

In 2002, Dennis Shubnell provided me the opportunity to coach football at St. Joan of Arc. I inherited a team with talent, speed and passion. A championship was won. The playoffs loomed and the season ended a game short of the CYO Championship. How fun this was!

When the season ended, parents told me how much they appreciated my efforts. I thought to myself, I didn’t score a touchdown or make one tackle. Did I make that much of a difference?

Over the next 3 years, our teams never achieved the 2002 prominence. I doubted my ability to coach these young men. I needed to do a better job of instructing, leading and motivating these young men. In 2002, the bar had been set high.

Parents still came up to me and said how much they appreciated my efforts. I thought to myself, I still had not scored a touchdown or made one tackle.

As I pack my bags today for new beginnings, I reflect on the blessings God has bestowed me. I realize it is not about winning, scoring touchdowns or making tackles. It is about the people whose lives I have touched, the coaches I have coached with and the outstanding young men I have instructed.

To the Shubnell Family who has provided me with so much. To the 2 and 3 generations of Herron’s, Richardson’s, Wieczorek’s, Neveux’s, Karam’s and Rahaim’s and the many others I have coached, I thank you for the opportunity.

I leave the St. Joan family with a heavy heart. But I now know it is not about winning, touchdowns or tackles. It is about the players, coaches and families who have given me so much joy! My time at St. Joan has been the best time of my life. Yes, I have been truly blessed.

Your Coach and friend forever,

Tim Murray

Hey.. I would like to say thanks to the coaching staff at SJA. These coaches are the best you can get and produce incredible players (who arent cocky and have respect for the game). Hey we didnt have a winning year but i will remember this for the rest of my life.

ST EDITH FOOTBALL PROGRAM

When it comes to websites, Coach Kevin has created the best.

SJA is a program that others should hope to emulate. Tradition, competitive spirit, and class is what embodies the Charger Program. The Shubnell family has long been the heart of the program and that tradition will keep SJA Football strong for a very long time.

Best of luck to the Chargers in 2004 and thank you again for hosting the 4-Way in August.

Coach Brad Dickey
