Sizz Basketball: 2012 Season

Geno's pulls away late for win over Sizz!
Ball around rim

I knew going into this one it was going to be tough. Geno's is supposed to be one of the top teams at Evans this year and we are still trying to find our way around the court a bit. Still the kids played very, very hard and the effort was exactly what you expect from this group of kids. We played hard and actually had the lead to begin the 4th quarter. We seemed to hit the wall mid-way through the quarter and then the wheels came off. Geno's pulled away late for the 22-15 win.

The 1st quarter we really struggled to get any shots to go down. We had at least 7 or 8 good looks at the basket but just could not hit a shot. Our defense kept us in the game and after one quarter of play we were down 6-1. The 2nd quarter we came to life on offense. We got a couple of easy baskets from Parker Wehunt to pull us within 6-5. After a steal from Christian Smitherman, Jackson King would sink a short jumper to give us a 7-6 lead. Christian would then hit a jumper from the free throw line to extend our lead to 9-6 by the half.

The 3rd quarter both teams continued to play hard and we took our biggest lead of the game at 13-8, when Jackson hit another jumper. Geno's used their defense to get a couple of easy baskets and after three full quarter of play we held a slim 13-12 lead. The final quarter we seemed to get tired as that is my fault, as I do not do enough subbing in the 3rd quarter. Geno's best player torched us for a couple of easy baskets and they pulled away for the 22-15 win.

I was very proud of how hard our kids played. They showed a lot of heart out there and if they continue to play that hard we will be in every game we play. This is a fun group to coach. They are all super kids and will give there all on the court. Great job tonight guys and keep your heads up.

Sizz bounces back with win over POP

Well, our kids bounced back from that tough loss against Arvest with a 19-0 win over Preferred Office Products today at Evans. Our defense was smoothering Preferred all game long. We struggled somewhat on offense again and are still looking for someone to step up and be that leader for us on offense.

The opening quarter both teams played very tough defense. We missed several easy shots around the basket and could not seem to buy a bucket for much of the quarter. Jackson King did manage a couple of baskets to give us a 4-0 lead. Conley Bone sank a short jumper from the wing to give us a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play.  The 2nd quarter neither team could do much offensively. Parker Wehunt sank a short jumper to give us an 8-0 by the half.

The 3rd quarter we came to life a little on offense. Conley sank another jumper and Jackson would score off a steal to put us up 12-0. Our defense continued to smoother Preferred into numerous turnovers. They struggled to even get shots off, much less make any. Hayden Blythe would sink a free throw to put us up 13-0 by the end of the quarter. The final 6 minutes we put things in cruise control somewhat. We backed off our defense but the kids continued to play hard. Everyone that went in the game played tough defense. I was hoping that Preferred would at least hit a couple of shots. They got some good looks at the basket the final quarter but nothing would go down for them. I felt bad for their kids, as they have some really great kids on their team and they played just as hard as we did in the game. I was proud of how are kids continued to play hard despite the score and that is what makes this team so fun to coach. We return to action on Tuesday night at 5:30 versus Army Surplus. See you there!

Sizz Week 1 - Player of the Week - Jackson King
Jackson King

Our player of the week for week 1 of the season is Jackson King. He scored 20 points and had 17 rebounds in our three games last week. Jackson is our most improved player and always gives you 110%. His defense at the top of our zone is awesome and has given teams all sorts of trouble. He has really become the leader of our team. Keep up the good work Jackson, we are very proud of you!

Sizz defense delivers knock out blow to Army Surplus, 29-9!

Tonight was a very good night for the Sizz basketball team. We played our best game of the season and the result would be a 29-9 victory over Army Surplus. They had a much bigger team than we did, but we used our quickness on defense to cause all sorts of problems for them all night long. We used an 8-0 run in the 2nd quarter to blow the game open and we never looked back.

The opening quarter you could tell our defense was going to cause them all sorts of fits. They were struggling to get the ball near the basket for much of the quarter. Offensively we got a lift from Conley Bone who sank a couple of very nice jumpers from the wing to give us a 4-2 lead. Hayden sank a free throw to extend our lead to 5-3 by the end of the quarter. The 2nd quarter we stepped up our defensive pressure even more. Jackson King was all over the Army point guard and forced him into numerous turnovers. Parker Wehunt and Jackson teamed up on a couple of nice give-n-go's to extend our lead to 9-3. Parker would then sink a short jumper and soon after a steal and layup by Jackson would give us a 13-3 lead by the half.

The 3rd quarter this one got out of hand. Hayden Blythe knocked down a jump shot and Jackson would do the same for a 17-3 Sizz lead. Christian Smitherman then hit a couple of jump shots in the lane to put us up 21-3. We got a lot of kids some good playing time the rest of the game and everyone we put in the game did some good things. We coasted our way to a 29-9 win that moves us to 2-2 on the season.

We were led in scoring by Jackson's 10 points and 3 rebounds. Conley Bone had his best game of the season with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Hayden Blythe did an awesome job of running the team at point guard, while scoring 5 points and 4 rebounds. Christian Smitherman also had his best game of the young season as he tallied 4 points and 7 rebounds. Parker Wehunt chipped in 4 points and grabbed down a single rebound. Cam Coleman, Seth Hewett, Austin Cole, Kyle Curtis and Michael Hall did not score in the game, but each one did some very good things on the court for us tonight. They all hustled and played very good defense. This was a total team effort and I was proud of how all the kids played tonight! Great job Sizz!

Sizz Week 2 - Player of the Week - Christian Smitherman
Christian Smitherman

Our player of the week for week 2 of the season is Christian Smitherman. He had a very good game tonight versus Army Surplus. Smitty scored 4 points and pulled down 7 big rebounds. He also played very good defense in the middle of our 1-3-1 zone. Christian always gives 110% and is very coachable. Awesome job tonight Smitty, we are very proud of you!

Sizz falls late to Graduate Sales 24-18!

To say we were overmatched in this one would be an understatement. Once again we played an opponent that had a huge size advantage on us. Graduate Sales returns 6 players from last years team and are picked by many to win our league. That did not scare our kids as we came out and once again stayed in the game with our incredible hustle and toughness on defense. I could not be prouder of a group of kids. Like I told them after the game, I have had teams that did not lose a game in this league in two years and they never played as hard as this team plays. They have more heart than any team I have coached. It's a shame we don't have just a little size or the rest of our league would be in trouble:)

We came out in this one and really clamped down on defense and made it very tough for Graduate Sales to get a shot off. After a free throw by Christian Smitherman, Jackson King gave us a 5-1 lead with a couple of baskets inside. Graduate only managed one point the entire quarter as they could not figure out our swarming defense. The 2nd quarter they got a couple of their studs in the game and used their size to hurt us on the boards. We continued to play extremely hard and that kept us in the game. We only managed a single point in the quarter from a Parker Wehunt free throw. Graduate would take a 7-6 lead at the half and I knew we were in good shape.

The 3rd quarter we changed our defense and it really seemed to affect Graduate Sales. They had trouble penetrating our 2-1-2 zone and the kids did exactly what I ask them to do last night in practice. Hayden Blythe would do a nice job getting Christian the ball for a couple of nice jump shots from the wing to put us up 10-7. After a Gradualte Sales basket, Conley Bone would knock down a jump shot of his own from the win to put us up 12-9. Luke Rotert would score off an offensive rebound to pull Graduate Sales within 12-11 by the end of the quarter.

The final quarter would be back and forth. The lead exchanged hands 6 times in the quarter. Jackson King put us up 16-15 with 3 minutes left in the game and it looked as if it was going down to the wire. Graduate would score a couple of big baskets inside to take the lead for good. Jackson tried to keep us in the game with another basket to pull us within 20-18, but that would be as close as we would get. Graduate Sales would hold on for the 24-18 win but they knew they had been in a dogfight in this one. It sure was not as easy as they thought it would be. Again, I am so very proud of this group of kids we have. They all get along and play well together. Effort is not a problem with this group, that's for sure. I'm hoping a few of them will grow maybe 4-6 inches over Christmas break:)

Sizz Week 3 - Player of the Week - Conley Bone
Conley Bone

Our player of the week for week 3 of the season is Conley Bone. He scored 2 points and grabbed down 3 rebounds in the game tonight versus Graduate Sales. Conley does so many things that don't show up on our stat sheet. He plays awesome defense and is always around the ball making plays for us. He plays so hard all the time and sets the tone for our defense. He and his "cous" Jackson are an example of how you play this game with all your heart and soul. Keep up the great play Conley, we are very proud of you!

Sizz wins thriller in double OT, 30-28!

Wow, I'm still wore out from this one. For a while I thought we might play all night. Both us and Dale Crampton kept making big plays down the stretch and neither team wanted to lose this one. Both teams played very hard and it's sad there had be be a loser in this game. But in the end we made one more play than they did and this would be enough to help us pull out the 30-28 win in double overtime.

The game opened with both teams playing tough defense as the opening quarter saw a lot of plays on defense. Jackson King sank a bucket to tie the game at 2. Hayden Blythe would give us a 4-2 lead with a short jumper of his own from the wing. Our defense was all over Dale Crampton and their best player Tyson Rogers. We held them to just two points in the quarter and after 6 minutes of play we held a slim 5-2 lead. The 2nd quarter we spread the points around as we got baskets from three different players in the quarter. Seth Hewett, Kyle Curtis and Parker Wehunt all sank baskets to give us a 11-8 lead at the half.

The 3rd quarter it looked as if we had put this game away. Hayden Blythe was doing a great job of finding open guys on the offensive end and we built a 17-8 lead. Conley Bone, Parker and Jackson all had baskets in the quarter. Our defense seemed to really frustrate them. Tyson could not find anyone open and was forcing up some bad shots for them. The 4th quarter things would change big time. After a basket from Jackson we had our biggest lead of the game and I started to clear the bench a bit. That's when Dale Crampton caught fire and started their comeback. Tyson hit a couple of 3-pointers and before we knew it this one was a 21-18 game with just seconds remaining. Tyson sank another 3-pointer and our final shot of the quarter fell short and this one was headed into overtime.

The first overtime would see us grab a 23-21 lead behind a jumper from Jackson. Dale Crampton quickly tied the game but Parker responded for us with a short jumper from the left wing. After a free throw from Parker, Tyson came through for his team and tied the game at 26. After we turned the ball over on the other end Dale Crampton had a shot to win the game as we were called for a rare over the back foul. Luckily for us Tyson missed the free throw and this game would head to a second overtime.

Dale Crampton would grab the lead early in the second overtime but once again Jackson hit a jumper to tie the game at 28. The teams would exchange a few turnovers and we set a screen to free Jackson up on the wing and he drove to the hole for a 30-28 lead. Dale Crampton got one last shot to tie the game but could not convert and this one was finally over with us notching the 30-28 win.

I was so very proud of our kids like always. They gave everything they had out there tonight. We had 6 players score in the game and everyone that played did some things to help us get this win. Great job Sizz. See you next Monday at practice!

Sizz Week 4 - Players of the Week - Hayden Blythe & Parker Wehunt
Hayden Blythe

It was too tough to just pick one player of the week this week, so we narrowed it down to two. Congrats to Hayden Blythe and Parker Wehunt for being named our week 4 players of the week. These two players really played well in the game tonight against Dale Crampton. Hayden did a great job of running the point for us and getting the ball to the open man all night. A lot of the time he was getting the ball to Parker and he came through big time for us. He scored 9 points and had 8 rebounds in the game. Hayden had 2 points and 6 boards in the game, but both kids did so many things that don't show up on the stat sheet. Awesome job this week guys, we are very proud of you

Sizz cruises past National Family 31-7!

This was a game between two teams that seemed to be going in different directions. While we are improving with each passing game, National Family is still searching to find a way to get a win on the season. Tonight would be no better for them as our kids came out ready to play and clamped our defense on them and never let up. We took a 1-0 lead in the first few seconds of the game and that would be as close as it would get all night as we coasted past National Family 31-7.

The opening quarter our defese was forcing all sorts of turnovers that led to some easy baskets for us. Hayden Blythe and Jackson King teamed up on a steal and dish to give us a 3-0 lead. After a Hayden 3-pointer, the rout was just getting started. We forced a couple more turnovers that led to fast break layups for Jackson to extend our lead to 10-1. Our defense was really good tonight. Players like Cam Coleman and Austin Cole were also doing a really good job on defense and poor National Family had trouble just getting shots off. Christian Smitherman sank a jumper in the lane and after the 1st quarter of play we held a 12-1 advantage.

The 2nd quarter we kept the defensive pressure on them. Conley Bone and Parker Wehunt teamed up for several steals that led to easy baskets to extend our lead to 16-1. Kyle Curtis then knocked down a 15-foot jumper from the wing and the rout was on. Parker came up with another steal created by the defense of Michael Hall to extend our lead to 20-1 by the end of the quarter. Seth Hewett was really domianting the rebounds in the quarter as he had 6 big boards in the 2nd quarter alone.

The final two quarters we got to play all the guys some good minutes. I was glad that we got a few kids that did not get to play as much last week, a lot of game time tonight. We would take our foot off the gas somewhat in the second half and crusie to a 31-7 win. I was very proud of all the guys tonight. We got good effort from everyone we put on the floor. Cannot say enough good things about the way we played tonight. Great job guys and we'll see you next Monday at practice. Have a great rest of your week!

Sizz Week 5 - Players of the Week - Cam Coleman & Kyle Curtis
Cam Coleman

We once again went with two players of the week this week and it is Cam Coleman and Kyle Curtis. Both kids had really good games tonight versus National Family. Cam did not score in the game but had 5 big rebounds and was awesome on defense. It was the best game he has played all season.

Kyle knocked down a couple of jumpers and scored 4 points on the night. Kyle also played excellent defense and was all over the floor out there tonight. Both of these players have really improved throughout the season and they always give 110%. Congrats to both Kyle and Cam for being named our players of the week. We are very proud of you both!

Kyle Curtis

Sizz battles hard but falls short to Optimist, 42-29!
shot misses

While we played very hard the whole game, Optimist just had a couple of weapons that we could not stop in this one. They hit shots from all over the floor, even banking in a couple of 3-pointers. It was just one of those nights were everything they shot went in. I was proud of how hard we played on defense but it was frustrating to see our kids bust their rears out there and Optimist pull up and knock down some of the wild shots they did. But what can you do, that is the way it goes sometimes.

The opening quarter we had a hard time stopping Optimist from driving the lane on us and the result would be some easy baskets for them. We did have a few careless turnovers but we kept battling hard. Hayden Blythe kept us close as he knocked down a couple of free throws and hit a jumoer to pull us within 9-4. Jackson King would then score off an inbound play and the score would be 12-7 after the 1st quarter of play.

The 2nd quarter I really thought we had the advantage on them but it sure didn't turn out that way. We really did not do a good job at all taking care of the ball and made some really bad passes in the quarter. That would lead to some fast break layups for Optimist as they built a 21-13 lead by the half. Conley Bone and Seth Hewett kept us within striking distance as they both knocked down shots in the quarter.

Early in the 3rd quarter our team took a big blow as Conley Bone was injured on a hustle play and had to be taken to the hospital. As it turned out, Conley suffered a concussion but is doing fine now. Conley is one of our best defenders and it really changed the way we played defensively. We did a much better job of taking care of the ball in the 3rd quarter and we started to make a run at Optimist. Jackson would score a couple of baskets and suddenly it was a 27-23 game. Optimist threw up another wild shot near the end of the quarter to take a 29-23 lead heding into the last 6 minutes of play.

The final quarter we sort of hit the wall as Optimist knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and it really seemed to put us down for the count. We kept playing hard but never could make another run at them and the game would end with them notching the 42-29 win. Despite the loss I was once again very proud of how hard our kids played. We had some kids really step up and battle out there tonight. The loss drops us to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Sizz Week 6 - Player of the Week - Seth Hewett
Seth Hewett

Our week 6 player of the week is Seth Hewett. He had a really good game on Thursday night versus Optimist. Seth scored 2 points and grabbed down 4 big rebounds. He played very good defense and really battled hard for us all game in the paint. Seth is improving each and every week and is a very coachable young man. Great job this week Seth, we are very proud of you!

Sizz "red hot" versus Preferred, wins 33-17!

Well this was one of those nights were we did not do a whole lot wrong. We came out and took it right to Preferred and really gave them no chance in this one. We jumped on them early and often and by the end of the 1st quarter, you could tell this game was all but over. Hayden Blythe got things going with a 3-pointer and Jackson King would add a couple of baskets and it was 7-0. After a Preferred basket, Jackson broke free for a fast break lay-up and by the end of the quarter we had built a 11-4 lead.

The 2nd quarter we really put this game away. Kyle Curtis sank a jump shot from the wing and Parker Wehunt would do the same. Seth Hewett also got into the action with a basket off an offensive rebound. Parker and Jackson would team up for several fast break lay-ups in the quarter. We outscored Preferred 11-2 in the quarter and headed into halftime with a 22-6 lead.

The 3rd quarter we took our foot off the gas somewhat and got a lot of kids some good time on the floor. Kyle would knock down another jump shot and Hayden would do the same. After a basket once again by Mr. King, our lead had grown to 29-11. Preferred would score the last basket of the quarter but we still held a very comfortable 16-point lead heading into the final six minutes of play.

The final quarter we would coast our way to the victory. The final would end 33-17, moving us to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in league play. We had some outstanding performances in this game. Jackson King was incredible as he finished with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Hayden Blythe once again did a great job at point guard and really controlled the game. He finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds and more assists than Coach Scott could count. Kyle Curtis knocked down a couple of shots to finish with 4 points and 4 rebounds. Parker Wehunt played more under control and finished with 3 points and 3 boards. Seth Hewett only had 2 points but had an incredible 14 rebounds. Most rebounds by one player of ours all season long. Awesome job Seth! The rest of our guys played great defense and made things tough for Preferred all night long. Great job Sizz!

Sizz Week 7 - Player of the Week - Austin Cole
Austin Cole

Our player of the week for week 7 of the season is Austin Cole. Austin really played hard versus Preferred on Tuesday night. He snagged a couple of rebounds and got off some good shots. He did a good job also of playing very good defense on the low block. Hayden sure was trying to help get Austin some points in the 4th quarter but he just couldn't get any shots to fall. He did do a good job of catching some tough passes and has really improved in that area. Great job this week Austin, we are very proud of you!

Sizz falls late to Arvest 39-26!
Refree Blinking

Man did our kids battle hard in this one. We were missing one of our best players in Conley Bone, but that sure didn't stop us from giving Arvest all they wanted in this game. Going into the 4th quarter it was a 3-point game and we were in position to win. The final quarter we got a little tired and our shots stop falling and that's when Arvest would use their size to pull away for the 39-26 win.

Arvest has a huge team, while we are the smallest team in the league. I told our kids the only thing we could do to combat their size was play harder than they did and just want it more. I thought for much of the game we did play harder than they did. The opening quarter Arvset would use their size to really hurt us in the paint. On several trips down the floor they got 3 or 4 shots t the bucket. Hayden Blythe would score 5 points in the quarter to keep us in the game. By the end of the quarter, Arvest had built a 11-5 lead.

The 2nd quarter both teams exchanged a few baskets and it was really becoming a defensive battle on the floor. Parker Wehunt and Kyle Curtis both sank jumpers to pull us within 18-10 by the half. I heard the Arvest coaches say they were going to a man-to-man defense in the 3rd quarter and I was glad to hear that. I knew at several positions we were quicker than they were and could take them to the hole. I told the guys in the huddle to beat their man off the dribble and drive the ball to the basket. That's exactly what we did and it spurred our comeback. Jackson King scored 6 points in the quarter and Parker knocked down a couple of shots of his own. We outscored Arvest 13-8 in the quarter to pull within 26-23 heading into the final six minutes of play.

In that final quarter I could tell that fatigue had set in with several of our players and that made it tougher to battle Arvest on the glass. Our shots started to fall short, which is another sign of fatigue and Arvest would pull away for the 39-26 win. I was still very proud of our kids as they once again played their hearts out. The loss drops us to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in league play. We will be the #4 seed from goldtrap in the up-coming Pee Wee City tournament being held at Jeffrey's.

We were led in scoring in this game by Jackson's 9 points and 8 rebounds. Hayden had a great game scoring 8 points but did a great job of taking care of the ball. He was the reason we were able to stay in the game like we did. Parker had another good game with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle sank a single jumper to finish with two points. Seth Hewett scored only one point but did an outstanding job fighting for rebounds as he finished with 9 of them. Cam Coleman was awesome on defense and finished with 5 big rebounds. Again, I am very proud of how the kids fought in this one. That's what I love about this team, they only know how to give their all and that's what they do!

Sizz finishes regular season with a bang, 35-19 over Army Surplus!

Well, we finished the regular season with a big 35-19 win tonight over Army Surplus. The win moves us to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in league play. We finish the regular season in 4th place in the league standings and will be the #4 seed from Goldtrap in the up-coming Pee Wee City tournament.

Once again our defense really set the tempo in this one. In the opening quarter we were swarming all over the floor and Army Surplus had a rough time just getting shots off. Our defense was extended past the 3-point line and that made it very tough for them to get near the basket. Offensively we came out red hot. Hayden Blythe knocked down a couple of 3-pointers from the wing to give us an early 6-0 lead. Jackson King would then knock down a jumper of his own to extend the lead to 8-2. Jackson would then take a nice pass from Hayden on a fast break to give us a 10-2 lead by the end of the quarter.

The 2nd quarter saw the return of Conley Bone to our lineup. Conley suffered a concussion a couple weeks ago in one of our games and has been out since. He sure was a welcome sight and came right in and played very well. Conley knocked down a couple of jumpers to extend our lead to 14-2. Parker Wehunt would then steal the ball and go in for a lay-up and the rout was one. Kyle Curtis scored off an offensive rebound to make it a 18-4 Sizz lead. Our defense really was awesome tonight and poor Army continued to struggle to get good looks at the basket. By the end of the quarter this one was a blowout at 21-4.

The 3rd quarter Army used their size to hurt us some on the offensive glass. They got a couple of baskets off offensive rebounds and suddenly it was a 21-11 game. We made a couple of changes in the line-up and that would help us go on a 8-2 run to close the quarter. Jackson knocked down a couple of jumpers and Hayden would hit another bomb. Christian Smitherman took a nice pass from Hayden and sank a 15ft jumper in the lane to extend our lead to 29-13.

The final quarter we made sure all the guys got plenty of playing time and we would coast in for a 35-19 victory. We once again tried to get Austin a basket but he couldn't get any of his shots to fall. What I did love in the game was the fact that we had 7 different players score in the game. Jackson led us with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Hayden Blythe had 8 points and 2 boards. Conley Bone made a big splash in his comeback with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Parker Wehunt finished with 4 points and 3 boards, while Christian Smitherman had 3 points and 5 big rebounds. Seth Hewett and Kyle Curtis both finished with 2 points and 6 rebounds. Michael Hall, Austin Cole and Cam Coleman did not score in the game, but all three played great defense and had some really big plays for us tonight. It was once again a total team effort. Good job tonight guys, now let's go represent Goldtrap in the city tournament.

Sizz Week 8 - Player of the Week - Michael Hall
Michael Hall

Our player of the week for the last week of the regular season is Michael Hall. Michael had a good game tonight versus Army surplus. He grabbed down a couple of big rebounds and played very good defense. Michael was very active out there on the floor tonight. He was really hustling and giving it hos all. As you all know, that's what I love to see. Great job Michael, we are very proud of you!

Congrats to all our players of the week this season:

Week 1 - Jackson King

Week 2 - Christian Smitherman

Week 3 - Conley Bone

Week 4 - Hayden Blythe & Parker Wehunt

Week 5 - Cam Coleman & Kyle Curtis

Week 6 - Seth Hewett

Week 7 - Austin Cole

Week 8 - Michael Hall

Sizz shakes off rust, advances to tourney 2nd round!
Spin ball

Well you sure could tell a couple of things in tonight's game. We weren't at our home gym and we hadn't played or practiced in over a week. To say we came out rusty would be an understatement! We couldn't buy a basket for the entire 1st half. Also, our defense was not what it had been all season long and that made things even worse. Luckily for us, we were playing a depleted Shelter-Wagoner squad. The recently lost of couple of their best players and showed up with just 5 players for the game tonight.

The opening quarter was just plain ugly! Neither team could buy a basket and it took a couple of minutes before anyone scored. Jackson King got us on the board with a bucket in the lane. Cam Coleman then put us up 4-0 with a basket of his own. Both teams excahnged a few turnovers and Jackson would score another bucket near the end of the quarter and we would lead 6-0 after 1 quarter of play. The 2nd quarter things did not get much better. Our defense was just not sharp and Shelter used it to their advantage. They scored a couple of baskets in the lane to pull within 6-4. Parker Wehunt found a wide open Michael Hall for a basket in the lane. Conley Bone would then knock down a jumper from the baseline to extend our lead to 10-4. By the end of the quarter, Shelter had pulled within 10-8 and we had a game on our hands.

The 3rd quarter we once again came out flat. We were letting Shelter drive around us and get near the basket with not much of a problem. I loudly called timeout and expressed to the guys that is not the way we have played all year and if they were ready to go home then keep it up. After the timeout, our defense seemed to really step it up. We forced several turnovers that led to easy baskets for Jackson King and Conley Bone. We started knocking down a few jump shots and started to pull away in this one. We held a 19-8 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter. The final quarter we would really put this one away. Conley sank another jump shot and Kyle Curtis would do the same as we cruised to the 25-9 win.

The win moves us to the 2nd round of the pee wee city tourney and we face a very good Davis Printing team on Saturday at 1:00pm. Davis is the #2 seed from the Stephens/Jeffrey's league. Please have your child at the game by 12:30.

Sizz season ends with a thud!
Blind Referee

Well we ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday versus a very good Davis Printing team. Davis was the #2 seed from Stephens and they showed us why. After scoring the first two points of the game, we had a 2-0 lead. wished the game would have ended there, because Davis would go on a 19-0 run over the next 9 minutes to take total control of the game. We really had no chance in this one as we could not match their speed and quickness. Hayden Blythe scored 6 points for us in the game, as he knocked down a couple of 3-pointers. The game mercifully ended 37-9.

The loss does not take away from a good season by our kids. They really played well all season long and I will always remember this team for how hard they played and how much heart they showed throughout the season. they are all truly champions in my book. Thanks for a great season Sizz players and parents.
