Bulldog's have a good showing at 2009 Michelle Perry Invitational

Bulldog's underclassmen ran well at the 2009 Michelle Perry Invitational!!!

The Underclassmen had a great day;  they showed that they are ready to run with the other schools and do well in their events.

The Coaching staff is very happy on how well the underclassmen performed at this meet.

2009 Willie Williams Classic - Jessica Davis Takes 2 Gold Medals

Tucson, AZ - Jessica Davis(11) Wins the 200 and 400 meters at the Willie Williams Classic on March 20-21, 2009.  Here times were 200m(24.85) and 400m(57.64).  Coach Thomas Counts said "She ran well for this Track meet; having ran on Thursday at the Tri-League meet then going to Arizona and having to run on Friday and Saturday".  The team did real well having to run three days straight.  Our times were not as fast but it was a good track meet to see how far along our training has come so far this season.

Bulldog's have a good first Relay Meet of the season.  Coach Thomas Counts said “we had some good races by some athletes but were are running tight and a little sore after running in the hills for the first two weeks straight.  This is a meet to see how good of shape we are in and not how fast we can run.  The speed will come later for the end of the season.”

The Bulldog’s next meet will be at ROYAL TWILIGHT INVITE – March 14th, 2008

Bulldogs finish there First week of Training for 2009!!!

Palmdale, Ca :  The Highland bulldogs finish there first week of training on Saturday.  Coach Ron Delaney said “I think that we are doing a lot better this year at this point getting the kids in shape”.  The Bulldogs will start there second week of training on Monday 16, 2009.

Highlands Jessica Davis wins state title in 200 meters – Takes second in the 100 meters

Norwalk - One night after clocking the nation’s fastest 200 meter time by a prep athlete this year under any conditions, Jessica Davis overcame a five meter lead with 20 meters remaining in Saturday’s final to win her first state title in 23.46 seconds at the 90th state track and field championships at Cerritos colleges. Davis, who produced a wind-aided 23.22 in Friday's prelims at Falcon Stadium, went on to pass St. Elizabeth's of Oakland sophomore Ashton Purvis en route to becoming Highland's first female state champion in Track and Field. Seth Amoo won the boys' 200 in 2001 to capture the program's first state title.

Bulldogs send 3 to Masters – 3 Qualify for State – Make school History!!!!

Norwalk CA  - For the first time in school history highland high school sent 3 Student-Athletes into the same master meet to qualify for the state Track and Field Meet.  The out come was equal to the input all 3 of the student-athletes qualified in all of their events.

 

The Team was lead by State Leading Sprinter Jessica Davis(10) who qualified in the 100m (11.62) which is a state leading mark and a personal best - in the  200m at (23.91).  Tiana Webberley(11) in the pole vault (11’6”).  For the boys Jeremy Acosta(12) qualified in the 3200m with another personal best time of (9:10.68).

 

The Kids are doing real well at this time of the Season said Coach Thomas Counts.  “They made it to the Big show – The State Meet – WOW that’s big within itself “.  The Bulldogs Coach Staff is real proud of the Student-Athletes that made it to the State Track & Field Meet and wish them well in there upcoming State Meet.

 

 The Bulldogs will be at the State Meet on Friday May 30, 2008 starting at 2pm for Jumps and 5pm for runs.

Highland Bulldogs Track Team Win 4 Division 1 Track and Field Event Titles!!!

****Bulldog’s Girl team came away with a 3rd place finish in the Division 1 Team Title***  

 Walnut: For the girls team Highland’s sprint star Jessica Davis(10) won two of here 3 events.  She won the 100m & 200m in an impressive fashion. With National times of    11.69 in the 100m & 23.40 in 200m said Coach Thomas Counts.  “Here focus right now is to put all the parts of the races that she has been working on all year - together and run a mistake free race.  The other Bulldog girl winner was Golden League Champion Tiana Webberley(11) in the Pole Vault.  She vault to a personal record and improved on here high school record to 11’6”. Coach Counts said that “she looked real impressive just missing at 12 feet on her second attempt”.  Aiyana Welsh(12) was the other girls Bulldog team member that scored with a 5’2” High Jump which gave here an 8th place finish in Division 1 event.

 

For the Boy’s Team it was Jeremy Acosta(12) who won the Division 1 3200 with a Highland High School record and personal best time of 9:13.68.  The old High school record was held by Justin Patanana(12) 9:36.29 (1998).  Coach Johnny Johnston said “he ran a smart race from start to finish - he looked real good”.  The other Bulldog Boy was Anthony Edward who was the 1st alternate in the 300M hurdles but did not get a chance to run.

It’s been a good year for Both Track Teams; they both have run hard all year and it showed why they are League Champions and have placed well . All of the Bulldogs Coaching Staff is proud of the four Divisional event titles and the Girls 3rd place Division 1 team title finish.

Bulldogs next big test will be at CIF-SS Master Meet on Friday May 23, 2008 at Starting at 4pm.

Quartz Hill: Highland High School Girls and boy’s teams won their Golden League Titles in Track and Field with a win in their final 2008 Golden League Dual meet against Quartz Hill  High on Thursday at Quartz Hill stadium. Both teams Records are 7-0.   Coach Thomas Counts said “it’s been a good year for Both Track Teams; the boys have run hard all year and showed why they are League Champions 4 years in a row. For the girl’s team – we had some early season tuff wins but have come on strong for the end of the season and we are expecting great things at League finals”. All of the Bulldogs Coaching Staff is proud of the 4th Year Golden League Championship title for the boys and a Golden League Championship title for 2008 Girls team. The Coaching staff is very happy on how well the teams have performed so fare this season.

Both Teams Stay Undefeated With Wins Over Palmdale High - Overall record improves to (6-0)

PALMDALE – Both of the Highland Bulldogs track teams should up big said Coach Ron Delany " we had some top makes from many of our athletes today and they are coming at the right time of the season". "They are training hard everyday and it is starting to payoff". With this win both Teams are one track meet away from a 7-0 season and both teams winning Golden League Titles. For the boys Team this will be the Fourth Straight Golden League Title (95,96,97).

Both Teams had a great showing said coach Thomas Counts "we mixed some of our underclassmen with some of our key varsity members and had a good meet." "We also gave some athletes the day off to rest injury’s, but still put together a good meet."

Highland Bulldogs Under-Classmen Attend King's Classic and do Well!!

The annual King Classic had its share of great ‘up and comers’ as first and second year preps gathered to compete against those of their own abilities in Riverside.

Coach Thomas Counts said, "the underclassmen had a chance to compete at a big meet - but against athletes with the same abilities". " We had some good looks in some of the event and in others we have some more work that needs to be done. Our young hurdle crew did very well and looks like they will help keep the Bulldog's winning tradition for the hurdles. Other shinning spots included the Pole Vault, Throws, Jumps and Sprints.

Get your Team Individual Points (Were Do you Stand)???

Individual Points after Dual meet Week number 4! 

The Boy Bulldogs are lead by Team captain Anthony Edward with 44.75 points and the Girls team is lead by Team Captain Aiyana Welsh with 65 points.

So fare the this year 19 Girls and 17 Boys have earned their Varsity letter this year for totaling 6 points or more for the season. With 3 Dual meets left coaches expect a lot more to reach this goal.

The JV Team is doing well and they are led by Anthony Dodson with 34.25 points and the Girls Team is lead by Alison Muravez with 20 points.

Bulldog’s come away with 2 big Wins over Pete Knight High school on Thursday!!!!!

Palmdale, CA: Both the Lady Bulldogs and the boys team won there Dual Meets against Pete Knight High on Thursday afternoon.  This being the first meet of the year for the Bulldogs made it tuff because of all the new first year talent said Coach Ron Delaney “We had to see what the new kid’s could do and how our training has been so fare”.

 

The Lady Bulldogs was led by two 2 student-athletes Jessica Davis (10) and Aiyana Welsh (12) both of them won 3 individual events and were both on the winning 4x4 relay team  that caped the win for the lady bulldogs. Davis – 100m, 200m, 400m: Welsh – 100mh, 300mh, HJ

 

On the Boys side student-athlete Marke’ Taylor (12) came away with 4 individual event wins 100m, 200m, LJ and TJ.  Coach Thomas Counts said that “The Team expects big things from Taylor this year; we are counting on him to take the leadership role on the team and show his talent as well”.           

 

The Bulldogs are on the Road this weekend at two different Track meets; the Team will split; some going to the Walt Disney Relays (Orlando, Florida) and some attending the Royal Track Classic (Simi Valley, CA). Come out and support the Highland Bulldogs Track and Field.

Jessica Davis Returning With Top Ranking in the State of CAL

Jessica Davis (Highland, Palmdale), with a very short running career, was a Finalist at State over 100 meters and finished fifth at the half lap distance. Jessica’s 23.64 was the #3 frosh time in the nation for 200 meters last year and she is the #6 returnee nationally at the distance.

Highland High School Caylie Choate and Jeremy Acosta Win X-Country's 2007 Golden League Championships

Palmdale- Lady Bulldog Caylie Choate was the Girls winner of the Golden League Championships with a time of 19:24 and also helped the lady Bulldogs take 1st place in the Team score. Other big performances came from teammates Marilyn Cortina 19:29 (2nd pl), Jessica Smith 20:00 (4th pl), Caitlin Caitlin 20:43 (8th pl).

Boy BullDog's 

Highland's State Leader in X-Country Jeremy Acosta was also the Golden League Champion with a time of 15:51; this effort helped the Team with a 2nd place finish at the Championships.  Also with big runs were teammates Nicholas Irvin 16:41 (7th pl), Freshman Dylan Alexander 16:45 (9th pl), Josh Johanson 16:58 (10th pl).

The Bulldog's X-Country Coaching Staff is very proud of both Teams and their outstanding performance at the Championships.

Palmdale: Highland High School Jeremy Acosta (12 Grade) is ranked number 1 in Div I for the State X-Country.  This comes off a great performance at the MT SAC X-Country Invit.

DeShawn Shead becomes an ALL-American with 3rd Place finish at the 2007 J.O. ‘s Decathlon .

DeShawn Shead finishes well in the Decathlon for the 2007 National Jo Championships’
Earning All-American honors with a 3rd place finish with 6361 points running for the Desert Lightning Track Club.

DeShawn Shead Scores 6381 to win the 2007 MT SAC Relays High School Decathlon!

Walnut, CA: DeShawn Shead had a great day in the decathlon; he won 7 out the 10 events and had a personal record in 5 of these events. This was his first time using collegiate instruments in the throws (16 pound shot, 2k discus) and running the 42 inch high hurdles. He did real well said Coach Thomas Counts “ he adjusted to the college instruments real well for his first time using them”. The most exciting events came in the 110 hurdles (42 inches) and the Pole vault. Shead was a little worried about the higher height but only scraped one hurdle in the race running 14.9.   For the Pole Vault Shead improved on this high school recorded by vaulting 13’11”3/4 his old vault was 13’6”.

Jessica Davis Wins 200m at Southern Section Master Meet and places 4th in the 100m to advance to the CIF-State Championship Meet.

Jessica Davis the Freshman Lady Bulldog from Highland High School won the 200m dash and became the first freshman to qualify for State in the school history.   Davis ran hard from start to finish said Coach Thomas Counts “She ran through the finish line hard and used here arms the whole race. I told her to just run hard and have some fun".

The State Meet will start on Friday June 1 and the finals will be on Saturday June 2.

Caitin Fitzgerald and DeShawn Shead Bring Home 2007 Female and Male Athletes of the year at the Highland High School 2007 Awards Night

Caitin Fitzgerald brought home the girls honor of Highland High School 2007 Girls Athlete of the Year and DeShawn Shead was the winner on the boy’s side as the 2007 male Athlete of the Year. Both Fitzgerald and Shead were both multiple sport athletes for Highland High School for 4 years having won multiple awards, Golden League titles and Championships for the Bulldog’s.

All of the Highland High School Bulldog Track and Field coaching staff and other Sports Staff are proud of Caitlin and DeShawn for their honors. The Bulldog coaching Staff wishes them well in their collegiate athletic careers.

*******Bulldogs Qualify 3 for the 2007 CIF Division I Championships*******

The Girls were lead by freshman Jessica Davis who qualified in three events the 100m (12.04), 200m (24.60) and the 400m (57.23). Also for the girls sophomore Tianna Webberly qualified in the Pole Vault with a vault of 10’0”.

On the Boys side Bulldogs senior DeShawn Shead qualified in 3 events 110m hurdles (14.56)a improvement to his school record, 300m hurdles (38.25) and the Pole Vault with a vault of (13’6”)

Coach Marty Prince said “all three have a good chance to make the Master meet if they continue to improve each week”. The whole team did well at the CIF Division Prelims; “we are in a tough Division” said Coach Counts. “Some of our new comers to Track & Field now understand what it will take to go further in CIF Div I and they will be ready next year”.

The Bulldogs Track & Field Coaching staff is very proud of both the Girls and Boys Team for a great season - so fare this year. Many of the Athletes finished their season with Personal Records (PR) in their events and the coaching staff is looking forward to next years returnees to keep up the Bulldogs tradition in track and field for the Golden League.

Deshawn Shead Makes a Clean Sweep of his Events at Golden League Finals - Winning All 4 Events!!

***********Bulldog’s Win 10 Events at Golden League Finals*************


Highland High School competed well at Golden League Championship on Thursday after noon. The Bulldogs came away with (10) 1st place medals, (4) 2nd place medals and (9) 3rd place medals.

The boy’s team was lead by DeShawn Shead with (4) 1st places. These places came in the 110m hurdles, 400m, 300m hurdles and the Pole vault. When Shead was asked about his four first place events he said "I came in today focused on my events and on what I needed to do to win all four events, I knew that I had less time between events today and it was a key factor that I stayed focused". James Snyder runs well to take first place in the 3200m race for the distance team.   


For the Girl's Team: Tiana Webberley wins the Pole Vault and improves on here Pole Vault record from 10’0” to 10’6”. Jessica Davis wins the 400m, 200m, place 2nd in the 100m and 3rd with here team in the 4x100. Caitlin Fitzgerald has two great races and comes away with wins in both the 1600m and the 3200m.

Bulldog's Do Well at 2007 Golden league Championships Prelims

Jessica Davis Breaks school record in 400 meters with a time of 56.88. The old record was held by Kristan Phillips with a time of 58.20.

DeShawn Shead qualifies for four individual events 110HH, 400m, 300m and Pole Vault
and he just missed the 400m record with a time of 49.83; the record being 49.73

Boys will send 12 boys who qualified in a total of 21 event places.

For the Girls; They will send 10 girls to the finals in a total of 19 event places.

Highland High Boy’s Track and Field Win 2007 Golden League Title - Third year in a row!!!

Palmdale: Highland High School boy’s won their 3rd straight Golden League track and Field Title with a win at their final 2007 Golden League Dual meet against Littlerock High on Wednesday at Bulldog stadium. The boys Record was 6-1 with their only lost coming from Quartz Hill High in a 2 point win. This year Title will be shared with Pete Knight high School that also ended up with a 6-1 record. But in the head to head dual meet Highland Boys beat Knight in that Track and Field Meet.   Coach Thomas Counts said “it’s been a good year for the whole track team; the boys have run hard all year and showed why they are League Champions again. For the girl’s team – we had some early season injuries but have come on strong for the end of the season and we are expecting great things at League finals”. All of the Bulldogs Coaching Staff is proud of the 3rd Year League Championship title and how well the team has performed so fare this season.

With the remaining Dual meet this Wednesday against Littlerock the Boy Bulldogs are in a position to win the golden League Title for the 3rd year in a row. The title could be a Co-Champ with Pete Knight or Palmdale High if one of these schools also wins next week. “The boys have had some tuff meets this year said Coach Prince they had to be tuff and go harder at these dual meets”.

For the Girls team they have come on strong at the end of the season and they are ready for League Finals. Coach Counts said “they have been getting better all year and that he is looking forward for the Golden League Finals’’.

Boy Bulldog's Win against Pete Knight is big for race for league title!!!

Highland won the dual meet again Pete Knight with a score of 69-67 this was a close meet for the start to the last race. DeShawn Shead lead the way again for the Bulldogs with 4 first places and 20 points. He won the 110m hurdle- 400m- 200m and the Pole Vault. Also in the throw Louiszell Alexander came up big for the bulldogs with a shot put of 46’71/2” for second place and a personals record (PR). For the Jumps Marke’ Taylor can through for the bulldogs with a win in the long jump and 2nd in the Triple Jump; he also won the 100m dash. One of the big moments of the meet came when 300m hurdler Anthony Edwards was winning the race and fell over the hurdle; he got up to finish the race and took third place for one point. Coach Counts said “ I am proud of Anthony he knew how big this race was for the team and he did not quite and ran harder to get the third place”.   

The Girls had a tough meet losing to Knight 74-62. Knight and a lot of depth said Coach Counts “ We had a lot of first place finishes but could not over come the depth of their team”. The Bulldog top score was Jessica Davis with 3 first place 400m- 200m- 100m.

Both the Boy’s and Girls Teams had a great showing at the MT Sac Relays said Coach Thomas Counts. “We were able to put together some good relay combinations and run some great relay legs.” For the day the MT Sac Relays had great competition all round the track and the whole Antelope Valley high school teams had a good showing.

The Girl’s Team was lead by Jessica Davis who came a way with 4 medals - 3 gold’s and 1 silver.
Davis ran on 3 relay teams and the 100meter Dash. Davis was a alternate in the 100 meter dash and got a chance to run; she took advantage of this opportunity and won here heat with a personal record (PR) time of 12.12 to win gold for that heat.   She also ran on the 4x200 (Dominque Davis, Aiyana Welsh, Jessica Davis, Macey Stepney) - 4x400 (D.Davis, Welsh, J.Davis, Waimea Richenback) for first place and the 4x100 2nd place team (D.Davis, Mercade Stepney, Welsh, J.Davis). The Girls distance relay team came away with a third place finish in the Girls 4x1600 Meter Relay(Sierra Brown, Alyssa Llyod, Marilynm, Caitlin Fitzgerald).

Girls Summary:
1st 100m dash Jessica Davis 12.12
2nd Pole Vault Tiana Webberley 9’7”
1st 4x200m relay 1:47.24
1st 4x400m relay 4:17.82
2nd 4x100m relay
3rd 4x1600m relay 23:10.98

The boys team was lead by Marke’ Taylor who finished with 3 medals 1st in the 4x100 (Lovel Gunn, Anthony Edwards, Najee James, Marke’ Taylor) 45.46 - 2nd in the 4x200 (Gunn, Taylor, Edwards, Deshawn Shead) and 3rd in the long Jump21’ 113/4”. Coach Counts said that “this was the best jump day for Taylor all year, all of his jumps were more consistent then they have been all year – by doing this the further jumps will come more regularly for him”.

Bulldog's Complete there first week of training

Yesterday Highland high school Track & Field team completed there first week of training. Coach Thomas Counts said “ The Team did well for the first week but we have a ways to go”. The team also had Event Day on Saturday, which allows the athletes to see all the events for high school track and field. This gives new members on the team, mainly freshmen a look at all of the events and help then decided which events that they would like to try. The day went well said Coach Counts we found a lot of promising athletes in a lot of different events. The Bulldogs first track meet will be on March 3, 2007.

Bulldogs Make Good Showing at Pasadena Game!!!! ** DeShawn Shead Sets New School Record**

DeShawn Shead Breaks Highland High School 110meter high hurdles school Record at the Pasadena Game with a time of 14.63. The old record was held by Vernard Wilken with a time of 14.79.

For the Boys Team:

Deshawn won his Large School heat of the 110meter hurdles with a time of 14.63. He also ran on the 3rd Place Sprint medley relay team with a time of 1:38 (100m, 100m, 200m and 400m), running the 200meters Part of the race. The Team consisted of Lovell Gunn (100m), Marke’ Taylor(100), Shead(200m) and Anthony Edwards(400m). The team got off to a good start said Coach Thomas Counts “Gunn and Taylor had good handoffs and Gunn had a real good start out of the block”.

Other:
Marke’ Taylor: 4th place LJ-21’11 1/4 ”, 12th place TJ 41’ 2”
Martez Moss: 4th place HJ-6’0”


For the Girls team:

Freshman Jessica Davis had a real good run in the 400meter Dash taking 2nd place in the Large School Heat with a time of 59.50. She also ran the anchor leg of the large school heat 4x400 3rd place relay team. The team consisted of Aiyana Welsh, Dominque Davis, Waimea Richenback and Jessica Davis with a time of 4:18.

Other:
Aiyana Welsh: 4th place HJ-5’0”
Girl 800 Sprint Medley: 4th place 1:55.26

Coach Counts said "over all the Team had a ok day; some of the kids are running hard but we need to run harder as a team to do better in these Top invitational.

The Coaching Staff is very proud of Deshawn Shead's School Record performance in the 110m High Hurdles at the Pasadena Games.
