It's a difficult task to complete a season undefeated, especially a summer campaign where players are sometimes on vacation or working jobs.
But Midway Express of South Hadley found a way to do it.
Midway Express beat Belchertown 5-1 in a Metro Softball A Division game at South Hadley High School yesterday to wrap up the regular season at 16-0.
"The kids did a good job," said coach Karl Kapinos, who has promised to buy his team sweatshirts to honor the achievement. "Belchertown is a classy team, and it was a good game."
Tammie Tremblay struck out nine and allowed just two hits. Caitlin Sico led the offense with three hits and a run scored, and Bri Flanders contributed two hits, including an RBI triple, for Midway Express.
Abby Gallant tripled for Belchertown, which scored an unearned run in the fourth.

Cybercats go after title in Bi-CountyEast
SPRINGFIELD - Coming into the season, High School of Science and Technology softball coach David Lemke reminded his players how close the Cybercats came to the Bi-County East championship in 2003.
This season the Cybercats are in a first-place tie with the Orioles, but they know things don't get easier.
"Beating Belchertown (the teams split two games this season) was a real boost, but I had to tell the girls that we couldn't lose focus," Lemke said.
The Cybercats have already clinched a berth in the Division I Western Massachusetts Softball Tournament.

Sci-Tech makes Post Season Play !!!
Another year my team makes it to post season play and a chance for the Bi-County League title. Thank you to my team - Go Cybercats.
The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." - Vince Lombardi
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth
Sci-Tech Girls know winning softball formula
Springfield Republican Article 3/24/04
SPRINGFIELD - High School of Science and Technology softball coach Dave Lemke can't help but be a bit optimistic since his team is coming off a successful 2003 campaign.
His girls finished last season with school-record 16 wins and only four losses. A fourth-year coach, his core group of seniors have been with him throughout that tenure.
"These seniors this year have been my backbone since they were freshmen," Lemke said. "Each year, we've improved by three or four wins, with last season being our most successful."
Sci-Tech made the post-season tournament in 2003, knocked out in the first round by Taconic. This year's team will strive for a trip back to the tournament, but the Bi-County League East title will be its first goal.
Leading the charge will be senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay, an All-Scholastic selection by The Republican last season. Her battery mate, senior Adrienne Walker, was an all-league selection in the Bi-County, and coach Lemke will be looking toward these two to carry the load.
"Softball is different than baseball because one pitcher can carry a team," Lemke said. "You're not looking for four different guys to throw in a given week. The combination of Tammie and Adrienne is our strength."
