Rodgers named ALL GRAC and NJCAA ALL Region
Matt Rodgers was named 1st team ALL GRAC Conference and NJCAA XXIV All Region.  Matt is the 6th Statesmen in the last 4 years to be named to the ALL Region team.  Catcher Austin Lewis and Pitcher Josh Wiesman recieved votes for the ALL GRAC team as well.

Rodgers Picks School

Sophomore RHP/1B Matt Rodgers has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at the University of Evansville.  Matt hit .345 for the Statesmen collecting 45 rbi's and blasting 8 home runs to go along with 7 triples and 16 doubles.  Congrats!!

LTC Baseball excells in Classroom for Fall 2012
The LTC men’s baseball team continued is strong tradition of excellence in the classroom for the fall of 2012.  The Statesmen had 20 out of 31 players register a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Included in that group were Diamyn Hall, Matt Rodgers and Zach Dowden who recorded 4.0 GPA's for the fall semester.  The Statesmen baseball team continued a streak of NOW 15 consecutive semesters of a team GPA of over a 3.0.  This semester the team accumulated a team GPA of 3.13.  Great Job Men!!!!

Wells Twins Pick thier Schools
Sophomore pitchers Tyler and Ryan Wells have signed letters of intent to continue their collegiate careers after this spring.  Ryan has chosen to attend IPFW a Division 1 school in Fort Wayne, IndianaTyler will be heading to Wright State University on Dayton, OH.Congratulations to both.

Several More Statesmen Commit

LHP Ryan Christophel has committed to play for the Ohio University Bobcats and Coach Rob Smith.  Ohio U is in the Mid-American conference.

UTL Jordan Zylstra has chosen to attend Ball State University and Coach Rich Maloney.  JZ was a 2 way player for the Statesmen, seeing time on the mound and in the field.

3B Drew Morecraft has signed with Hannibal LaGrange College in Missouri.  Drew took a redshirt in 2012 and will have 3 years for HLC.

LHP Nolan Clayton has signed a letter of intent with the University of Missouri St Louis in the GLVC

LHP Jake Hall has committed to play for the 2012 OVC Conference Champion Eastern Kentucky Colonels.  

CF/INF Ariel Sanchez will be joining teammates Taylor Banks and Jesse Abel at Grand Valley State University

1B Josh Whitmer has signed with NAIA powerhouse St Catharine's College in KY

Several LTC Baseball Players have made their commitment to continue their careers.

Noah Buettgen has signed with A-10 Champs and NCAA Regional participant Dayton University.

Cam Chestnut has signed with NCAA DII power St Joseph’s College.

Jose Dove has signed with MVC Conference Champs and NCAA Regional Participant Indiana State University

Ben Kennedy has signed with OVC tourney runner-up Eastern Illinois University.

Ron Shelton has signed with NAIA power IU-Southeast

They join Taylor Banks and Jesse Abel who signed in the fall with NCAA DII regional particpant Grand Valley State.

LTC will play Wabash Valley at 3pm on 5/11/12 at Kaskaskia College.  The winner of this game will play at 1pm on Staurday and the losing team will play at 10am on Saturday.  Stay tuned for updates on the Statesmen's tournament run.

The Statesmen attack was led by Taylor Banks(2-4, 2 RS, 2 RBI), Cam Chestnut(2-6, 2 RS), Cam Fagg(2-5, 2 RS, 2 RBI), Josh Whitmer(3-5, 2 RS, 2-2B, 2 RBI), Jordan Zylstra(2-4, 2 RS, 2 RBI), Ron Shelton(1-3, 2 RS, 2-BB) and Ariel Sanchez(2-5, 3B, 5 RBI).  Josh Dove(3 IP, 2H, 0 R, 2K) pitched well and picked up the win in relief.  Tyler Wells(4IP, 8H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1K, 3BB) and Ben Kennedy(1IP, 5H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB) also contributed on the mound.

Dyersburg St 7-LTC 5
Noah Buettgen(3 1/3 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 2 K) struggled in his 1st start in 2 years and took the loss for LTC.  Ryan Well(1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K) and Corey Aper(1 IP, 0 H, 0 R) were solid in relief for the Statesmen.  The leading hitters were: Cam Chestnut (2-3, 2 RS, 2 RBI), Can Fagg(2-2, RS, 2B, RBI) and Ariel Sanchez (1-3, RBI).

Dyersburg St 10-LTC 4
Jake Hall (4 1/3 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) was solid thru 4 innings when 2 LTC errors lead to a 5 run 5th for Dyersburg St.  Spotting DSCC a 7-1 lead.  Ryan Christophel(1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R), Jordan Zylstra( 1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER) Josh Wiesman (1 1/3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K) and Eric Stapleton(1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 K) contributed on the mound.  The leading hitters were Caleb Shore(1-4, RS, RBI), Cam Fagg(3-4, RBI), Taylor Banks(1-2), Ariel Sanchez(1-2, RS, 2B), Mike Konyesni(1-1)  and Matt Rodgers(1-2, RS RBI)

Several Statesmen Pick Schools

Infielder Jesse Abel and Catcher Taylor Banks have signed NLI's with Grand Valley State.  GVSU has made 9 straight NCAA tournament apperances.

LHP Jake Hall and 1B Josh Whitmer have committed to St Catharines College in Kentucky.  St Cats finished 31-26 last year losing in the semi finals of the MSC tournament finals.

LTC Drops 4 at Georgia Perimeter

Justin Hancock pitched well in the season opener for the Statesmen, but took the loss.  Hancock went 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned while striking out 4.  Leading the LTC bats were Jeremy Robinson(1-3), Michael Eberle(1-3), Kolin Conner(1-2, 2B, R, BB), Evan Luken(2-3, RBI) and Jake Renkenberger(1-3)

Georgia Perimeter 6-LTC 2

Nate Young(4IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) was the victim of some early defensive miscues spotting GPC the early  4-0 lead.  Collin Ullery(1IP, 0 R, 2 K) and Jordan Zylstra(1 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB) pitched well in relief.  Josh Whitmer(1-2, R), Jon White(2-2, R), Gabe Pirtle(1-2, BB) with Evan Luken, Ron Shelton, Nick Clayton and Jeremy Robinson were the leading hitters.

Georgia Perimeter 6-LTC 4

Jeff McNeely(6 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) settled in after surrendering 4 early runs.  Gabe Pirtle(2-4, SB, RS), Jeremy Robinson(1-3, 2B, 2 RS, BB), Kolin Conner(2-4, 2B, RS, RBI), Michael Eberle(3-4, 2-2B, 2 RBI), Taylor Banks(1-2, BB) and Josh Whitmer(1-3) paced the offense.

Georgia Perimeter 15-LTC 6

The defensive lapses continued and the LTC pitcher surrendered 15 on 19 hits.  Jake Hall, Collin Ullery, Storm Lindsay, Cody Pearson and Ty Wilson all saw time on the mound.  Jon White(1-2, 2B), Jordan Zylstra(2-2, 2R), Jeremy Lyon(2-2) Cameron Chestnut(2-2, 2 RS), Josh Whitmer(1-2, 2B, RBI), Drew Morecraft(1-1, RBI) and Evan Forslund(1-2, RS) lead the Statesmen bats.

LTC will travel to Middle Georgia College for a doubleheader on 3/8/11 at 5pm.

Mark Roberts Inks with Murray State

LHP Mark Roberts has commited to Murray State University.  Roberts was 5-3 with a 3.89 era for the Statesmen this season.  Roberts joins fellow Statesmen Travis Isaak next year for the Racers.  Roberts becomes the ninth LTC baseball player to commit to a Division 1 school this year.

Former Statesmen Ricky Marshall Signs with the Chicago White Sox
RHP Ricky Marshall has signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox.  Marshall was a member of the 2007 LTC team that captured the GRAC and NJCAA Region XXIV titltes.  After LTC he signed with Austin Peay University.  He will report to the Bristol, VA White Sox.  Stay tuned for updates on Ricky's progress.

Former Statesmen Zach Gerler Signs with the Washington Nationals
Pitcher Zach Gerler, a member of the 2007 and 2008 LTC baseball teams has signed a contract with the Washington Nationals.  Gerler will report to either the Nationals minor league team in Florida or Vermont.  Stay tuned for updates on Zachs progress.

Ghysels Drafted by the Cincinatti Reds
Pitcher Chuck Ghysels was selected in the 36th round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Cincinatti Reds.  Ghysels, who signed with Maryland, was recently named to the NJCAA All American Team.

Righty Chuck Ghysels was named an Honorable Mention All American for the 2010 season.  Chuck is the third Statesmen baseball player to be named to the All American Team in the last 5 years.

Several More Statesmen Commit

Infielder Colt Cattani has signed with the University of Northern Kentucky.  NKU is a Division II powerhouse and competes in the Great Lakes Vally Conference.   Colt was having an outstanding year for the Statesmen before suffering a broken jaw ending his season. 

Infielder Kyle Kolat has signed with Milligan College, TN.  Milligan is a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.   Kolat is having an outstanding summer for the Tennessee Tornado and cought the eye of several schools before committing to Milligan

Five Statesmen commit to Division 1 Schools

Pitcher Chuck Ghysels has signed a Letter of Intent with the University of Maryland.  The All Region and All Conference performer will be heading east to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference.  The ACC is regaurded as one of the top baseball conferences in the country. 

Pitcher Cory Baker has committed to the University of North Dakota.  Baker excelled for the Statesmen after moving to the closer role mid-season.  Baker,  finished 3-0 with 5 saves for LTC this year.  UND, in just thier 3rd season of D1 comptition, have seen their win totals increase each year and currently compete in the newly formed Great West Conference.  The Great West is comprised of schools from CA, UT, NY, NJ, IL, ND, SD and TX.

Pitcher Ross Overstreet will be heading to Ball State University in the fall of 2010.  Overstreet was one of the top pitchers this fall for LTC, but an injury sidelined him for the 2010 spring season.  Oversteet will join former Statesmen pitchers Morgan Coombs and Derek Grabner at Ball St next year.

Infielder Travis Isaak has signed with Murray State University.  Isaak was one of the top performers for LTC both on offense and defense.  As a freshman, Issak hit .365 with 25-2B, 5 HR, and 38 RBI while committing only 1 error on 49 games at second base.  After moving to 3B for the 2010 season, Isaak picked up right were he left off;  hitting .420 with 19-2B, 8 HR, 55 RBI's, scoring 46 runs and commiting just 5 errors in 51 games.  Murray State is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Lefty Adam Clark has signed with Eastern Illinois.  Clark had a season to remember for LTC;    "Big Smooth" was named to the NJCAA All Region and All Northen District teams in 2010 season, finishing with a 9-2 record for the Statesmen.

They join Jimmy Brenneman(Campbell Univ), Zach Tanner(Wright St) and Dustin Huff(Univ of Southern IL) who signed in the fall.

Four Statesmen Named to the NJCAA Region XXIV Team
Adam Clark, Jimmy Brenneman, Zack Tanner and Chuck Ghysels were named to the NJCAA All Region XXIV Team for 2010.  Clark, who was 9-1 with a 2.3 era for the Statesmen was joined on the team by Brenneman, Ghysels and Tanner who were recently named to the ALL GRAC team as well

Three Statesmen named to ALL-GRAC Team

Jimmy Brenneman, Zack Tanner and Chuck Ghysels were named to the ALL Great Rivers Athletic Conference Team. Brenneman finished the year hitting .486 while not committing an error all year in Centerfield.  Shortstop Zach Tanner hit an outstanding .502 for the year with 7 HR and 66 RBI's.  Ghysels finished the year 9-1 on the mound for LTC, striking out 131 batters in 78 innings with a 1.04 era.  For his efforts Ghysels was also named Conference Pitcher of the Year.  Chuck is the 2nd LTC pitcher to win the award joining David Arnold who won it in 2006.

Chuck Ghysels(5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 K) pitched a no hitter in route to his 9th win of the year.
The leading hitters were:  Jimmy Brenneman(2-3, RS, HR, RBI), Tyler Campbell(1-3, 2 RS, 2B, 2 RBI), Travis Isaak(1-1, 2 RS, RBI, 2 BB), Zach Tanner(2-3, 2 RS, 2B, RBI), Michael Eberle(3-3, 2 RS, 2B, 2 RBI), Evan Luken(1-3, 2 RBI), and Jeremy Robinson(1-2, RS, 2B, 2 RBI)

LTC 6-Logan 4
Adam Clark(6 1/3, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K) was outstanding keeping the potent Logan bats in check, to pick up his 9th win of the year.  Cory Baker(2 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K) picked up his 5th save of the year.  LTC was paced by: Jimmy Brenneman(2-3, RS, 2B, 2 BB), Travis Isaak(2-4, 2 RS, 2B, 2 RBI), Zach Tanner(2-4, RS, RBI), Evan Luken(3-4, RS, 2-2B, 2 RBI) and Jeremy Robinson(2-4, RS)
Game 3
Logan 10-LTC 0
Mark Roberts(6 2/3 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 4 K, 3 BB), struggled with command for the 1st time all year and the explosive Logan offense capitalized.  Storm Lindsey(2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 3 BB) pitched well in relief. The Statesmen offense was kept in check by Logan lefty Mike Guinane, who allowed only 3 hits, in route to the win. 
Game 4
LTC 13-Logan 7
Justin Hancock(8 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 K) battled all day in route to his 5th win of the year.  Hancock kept the Logan bats in check early, allowing the Statesmen bats to take a commanding 7-2 lead thru the 5th in route to the 13-7 victory.  The Statesmen bats exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st and never looked back.  Leading the way were:
Zack Tanner(4-4, 3 RS, 2B, 4 RBI), Michael Eberle(1-3, RS, 2 RBi), Evan Luken(2-4, RS, 3 RBI) and Jeremy Robinson(2-3, RS, BB).  Dustin Huff blasted a 2 run homer, while Jimmy Brenneman, Tyler Campbell and Travis Isaak scored 2 runs apiece and had a hit each.
With the game 4 win the Statesmen advance to the Region 24 finals in Carterville, IL on May 15th.

Statesmen Drop Rain Shortened Game to Vincennes

After tying the score 4-4 in the top of the 6th the rain started and eventually cancelled the game.  Becasue LTC had tied the game in the top of the sixth inning and VU didnt get to complete the bottom of the inning the score reverted back to the last completed inning which resulted in the 4-2 LTC Loss.  Cory Baker(1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER) took the loss with Justin Hancock(4IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K) pitching well in relief.  The leading hitters were: Travis Isaak(2-3, 2-2B, 1 RBI), Michael Eberle(2-3, RS,) and Dusitn Huff(1-3, 2B)

Collin Ullery was outstanding in relief to pick up his 3rd win of the year. Ullery went 5 innings allowing no runs, on 2 hits and striking out 5 DACC batters.  Jusitn Hancock went 2 innings retiring all 6 batters he faced, and Storm Lindsay(2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 K) also chipped in on the mound. The leading hitters were: Jimmy Brenneman(2-4, 3 RS, 2 BB, RBI),  Travis Isaak(3-6, 3 RS, 2B, RBI), Zach Tanner(5-5, 3 RS, 2-2B, 3B, 5 RBI), Evan Luken(3-5, 2 RBI) and Gabe Pirtle(3-4, 2 RS, RBI).  Jeremy Robinson alos contributed with a 3 run homer, his second of the year.

Mark Roberts took the loss for LTC.  Roberts went 7 innings allowing only 2 earned runs, striking out 7 and walking only 1 batter.  The Statesmen bats were kept in check all day striking out 7 times, and managing only 3 runs on 9 hits.  Leading the offense for LTC were: Jimmy Brenneman(3-4, RS), Travis Isaak(2-3, RS, RBI, BB) and Michael Eberle(2-3, HR, RS, 2 RBI).

LTC 18-Blackhawk 13

LTC Drops Two at Gordon

Jeff McNeely(6 IP, 3er, 6K, 4BB, 5 H) was very solid in his first outing of the spring, exiting in top of the 7th with a 5-3 lead.  Collin Ullery couldnt hold the lead and set the stage for a bases loaded walk that pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Gabe Pirtle(1-2,BB), Travis Isaak(1-2, 2RS, BB), Nick Consigli(2-3, 2B, 2 RS, BB), Jeremy Robinson(1-3) and Tyler Campbell(1-3, RBI)  were the leading hitters.

Gordon College 12-LTC 2

Ross Overstreet(4IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K) settled in after a shakey 1st inning and left the game after the 4th with LTC down 4-2.  The bullpen couldnt keep it close surrendering 8 runs over the last 2 innings in route to the 12-2 LTC loss.  Leading the Statesmen bats were Kyle Kolat(1-3, RS), Evan Luken(1-3, 2 RBI) and Evan Forslund(1-2, BB) paced the offense.

LTC is 3-4 on the year, take on Gordon in a single game on 3/9/10, then head to Panama City to complete thier spring trip.

Adam Clark went 7 innings, giving up 4 runs, 3 earned to pick up his second win of the year.  Clark scattered 6 hits, striking out 6 and walking none.  Collin Ullery was solid in relief, going 2 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned and strinking out 1.  The Statesmen bats were lead by Colt Cattani(3-6, 2B, 2 RS), Zach Tanner(3-5, 2RS, RBI), Gabe Pirtle(2-4, 2B, 2 RS, 3 RBI), Michael Eberle(3-4, 2B,2 RS, RBI) and Kolin Conner(2-3, HR, RS, 3 RBI).

Justin Hancock picthed well taking the loss, going 6 innings.  Hancock allowed 3 runs, 2 earned on 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5.  Jimmy Brenneman(2-3, RS, SB), Colt Cattani(1-4, 3B,RS, RBI) , Zach Tanner(1-3, SF, RBI), Dustin Huff(1-3) and Tyler Campbell(1-3) were the leading hitters.

Chuck Ghysels(6 IP, 6H, 3 runs, 2 earned, 10 K, 2 BB) worked a solid 6 innings for the Statesmen leaving the game with the score tied 3-3.  Ross Overstreet(2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K) took the hardluck loss for the Statesmen.  Colt Cattani(2-4), Gabe Pirtle(2-2, 2B, RS, Sac), Kolin Conner(1-3, RBI) and Tyler Campbell(2-3, 2 RBI), paced the Statesmen bats. 

The Statesmen are 2-2 on the year and travel to Middle Georgia on 3/7/10 for a single game, then onto Gordon College for a 3 game set begining 3/8/10.

Mark Roberts went 8 strong innings giving up 2 runs, scattering 6 hits and 5 walks while striking out 2.  Colin Ullery picked up the save,  pitching a scoreless 9th.  Leading the Statesmen bats were Jimmy Brenneman(1-4, BB, SB, RBI), Michael Eberle(2-4, 2 RS), and Dustin Huff(1-2, RS, BB, 2 RBI).  The Statesmen are 2-0 on the season and take on Georgia Perimeter in a doubleheader on 3/6/10 at 1pm.

Three Statesmen Choose Schools

Shortstop Zach Tanner has signed with Wright State University in Dayton, OH.  WSU has been a perennial power in the Horizon League and made several trips to the NCAA Regional’s.

Catcher Dustin Huff has committed to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.  SIU is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.  SIU has a strong baseball tradition and is always a force in the MVC.

CF Jimmy Brenneman has committed to Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC.  Campbell is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference and under their new coaching staff has seen the baseball team reach records in wins in a season, and posted the schools first winning season in 9 years. 

With these signings, LTC has seen over 71 players sign at NCAA D-1 schools since 2002.

Statesmen Baseball Gets it Done in Classroom

With a team GPA of 3.20, the 2008-2009 LTC Baseball team landed in the Top 10 in the nation and was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Teams.  This is the 6th consecutive year the baseball team has fininshed 15th or higher and landed a spot on the All-Academic Team.  The coaches and staff would like to congratulate the players on this outstanding achievement.

Statesmen Continue Excellence in Classroom

For the 7th straight year and 17th consecutive semester the LTC Baseball team carried a team GPA over a 3.0.  This semester the Statesmen finished with a 3.10 cumulative gpa.  Eight members posted gpa’s over a 3.5 including Cory Baker, David Bishop, Derek Grabner, Travis Issak and Adam Richart who finished with perfect 4.0’s for the spring semester.  Way to go Gentlemen.

RHP Brent McNeil, who went 7-2 for the Statesmen in 2009 was named to the ALL-GRAC team. 
OF Shawn Ferguson was named ALL-GRAC and was runner-up for Conference Player of the Year.
SS Kevin Gillespie was named the ALL-GRAC and All Region XXIV teams

Final Statesmen Soph's Sign

Outfielder Tyler Schnebelt has signed with  the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY to continue his college career.  Cumberland is a member of the NAIA, the Patriots have had 7 straight season of 30 wins or more.

 Catcher Jason Spencer has signed with the University of Southern Indiana.  USI is a NCAA II and GLVC member.  The Eagles made a trip the the DII World Series in 2007 and lost in the Midwest Region finals last year.

Ferguson Decides on Eastern Illinois
All-Conference Outfielder Shawn Ferguson has signed with Eastern Illinois University.  Fergie was not only ALL-GRAC but was runner-up Player of the Year after hitting a school record .476 in league play. He joins fellow Statesmen Brent McNeil, who signed in the fall, and Jake Samuels who was the starting 1st basemen for EIU this year.

Academic All-American Pitcher David Bishop has signed a letter of intent to continue his career at Pikesville College.  Pikesville College is located in Pikeville, KY is a member of the NAIA and competes in the Mid-South Conference.

Pitcher Jake Anderson has signed a letter of intent to play for the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan University.  KWU is located in Owensboro, Kentucky and compete at the NCAA II level in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

After mulling over several offers, RHP Justin Smith has decided on Delta State in Cleveland, MS.  Delta is a D-II national power that has made 10 trips to the College World Series and 26 trips to the NCAA Tournament .

Richart Chooses Indiana State

Sophomore catcher Adam Richart has decided on Indiana State to continue his college career.  Richart was a 2 year started for the Statesmen, joins a resurging Indiana State team that finished with it's best record in 14 years,  and finished 2nd in the Missouri Valley.

Shortstop Kevin Gillespie, an ALL GRAC and ALL REGION XXIV selection  has signed with National D-1 power UNC-Charlotte.  The  49'ers have made NCAA region tournament apperances in 2007 and 2008.

Pitcher Coty Bates has signed with Cleveland State.  The Ohio native chose to stay close to home and play for CSU.  The Vikings were recenlty elimitated from the Horizon League tournament in the semi-finals.

Sophomore outfielder Steve Mirizzi has signed with Ouchita Baptist University.  OBU, located in Arkadelphia, AR, had spent the majority of the 2009 season ranked in the Top 20 and was a 2008 D-II World Series participant.

Two Statesmen Sign in Early Period

LHP Derek Grabner committed to Ball State joining former LTC standout Morgan Coombs.   Derek averaged over a strikeout an inning last season as the 1st option out of the pen for the Statesmen last year.  Grabner, an accomplished actor, was recently acepted into the prestegious School of Teatre and Fine Arts at Ball State for the 2009-2010 school year.

RHP Brent McNeil has signed a letter of intent to Eastern Illinois University.  McNeil worked his way into the starting rotation after spring trip and compiled a 4-2 record with a 1.75 era.  EIU is the current home of former Statesmen Jake Samuels and Chris Ulrey.

Statesmen Bow Out of Region Tourney

Adam Clark surrendered a couple early runs but settled in and pitched 4 2/3 strong innings. Adam Klatka came in and worked out of a 2nd and 3rd jam in 4th and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings giving way to Taylor Schmidt who blanked the Valley the rest of the way.

Ross Overstreet was solid going 5 1/3 innings of work exiting with a 5-2 LTC lead.  Several errors and some walks outta the pen caused the lead to elapse and ending the season for the Statesmen.

Brent McNeil was outstanding going all 9 innings for the complete game shutout win.  McNeil allowed only 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 6.  The Statesmen bats were held in check managing only 1 hit off the bat of Travis Isaak, but woke up in the 9th.  Steve Mirizzi lead off the inning with a double, setting the stage for Jimmy Brenneman, who ripped the game winning single to plate Mirrizi.  The Statesmen take on Wabash Valley in secong round action on 5/5/09 at 7pm.

Ross Overstreet(5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 K) kept Vincennes at bay allowing LTC to battle back for the win in the bottom of the 9th.  Derek Grabner(2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K) and Taylor Schmidt(1 IP, 0 H, 0 R) were outstanding in relief.  With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 9th, Travis Isaak drew the 1 out walk, Tyler Schnebelt got on with an infield single, Adam Richart was hit by a pitch.  With the bases loaded, Zach Tanner(1-3, RS, 2 RBI, SF) delivered the game winning sac fly.  Colt Cattani was 4-4 with a RS and double to help the cause.

Coty Bates(3 1/3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 7 K) David Bishop(1 1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 R 1 ER) and Mark Roberts(2 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 K) all pitched very well, but the Statesmen bats could only manage 5 hits, in route to the 4-2 loss.  Shawn Ferguson(2-3, RBI) and Steve Mirizi(1-3, RS, HR, RBI) were the offense.

The Statesemen bats finally woke up and errupted for 18 runs on 16 hits, including 6 home runs.  Adam Klatka(2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R) picked up the win in relief of Cory Baker(3 2/3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 K).  Josh Weninger(1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K) pitched a scoreless 7th, to lock seal the 7 inning run rule win.  Kevin Gillespie(3-3, 3 RS, 2B, 2-HR, 5 RBI), Shawn Ferguson(2-4, 3 RS, 2-HR, 3 RBI), Travis Isaak(3-5, 2 RS, 2-2B, HR, 4 RBI), Zack Tanner(2-4, RS) and Steve Mirizzi(2-5, 2 RS, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) were the leading hitters.

Derek Grabner(2/3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER) struggled early and left the bottom of the first inning with LTC trailing 5-3.  Ross Overstreet(4 1/3, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 9 K) worked around some errors to keep LTC in the game.  Jake Anderson(4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K) picked up the win in relief holding Lake Land scoreless for 3 innings, allowing LTC to chip away at the 10-5 deficit, eventually taking a 15-10 lead.  in the top of the 7th, with the score tied 10-10, Adam Richart(1-4, RS, GS, 4 RBI) provided the big blow hitting a Grand Slam to stake the Statesmen to a lead 14-10 lead they wouldnt relenquish. Jimmy Brenneman(1-2, 2B, 4 RS, 4 BB,  2 SB), Kevin Gillespie(3-4, RS, 3B, 4 RBI, SF, 2 SB), Travis Isaak(2-4, 2 RS, 2 BB), Zach Tanner(2-5, 2 RS, 2B, RBI) and Steve Mirizzi(2-3, 2 RS, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB) lead the 15 hit attack.

Kaskaskia 8-LTC 5
Brent McNeil(5 1/3 IP, 14H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 K, 2 BB) took the loss for LTC with Ross Oversteet(2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB) pitching well in relief.  Shawn Ferguson(4-4, 4 RS, 2-2B), Jason Spencer(2-4, 2 RBI) and Steve Mirizzi(2-4, 2B) paced the offense. 
Game 2
LTC 9-Kaskaskia 8 (11 innings)Down 8-1 in the bottom of the 9th, the Statesmen staged a furious comeback to tie the score at 8-8, eventually winning it in the bottom of the 11th on a Kevin Gillespie(2-5, 2 RS) lead-off triple and game winning sac fly by Shawn Ferguson(1-5, 2 RS, RBI, SF).The comeback was started with walks to Kyle Strom and Tyler Schnebelt followed by a 3-run pinch-hit HR by Mark Roberts, making the score 8-4 with no outs.  With 2 outs, consecutive singles by Gillespie and Ferguson and a BB to Jason Spencer loaded the bases for LTC.  Setting the stage for Travis Isaak's (3-5, 3 rs, HR, 5 RBI) game tying Grand Slam.  In the top of the 11th with runners on 1st and 3rd and  2 outs, Cogan Keith helped keep the score tied with a diving stop for the third out.  Derek Grabner(6 IP, 13 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3K) struggled with command but Cory Baker(3 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K) and  Taylor Schmidt(1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R) were outstanding in relief for LTC.

Kohan, Bierman and Gerler Named NJCAA Academic All-Americans
Sophomores Pat Kohan, Trent Bierman and Zach Gerler have been named to the 2008 NJCAA Academic All-American Team.  All three carried a GPA above a 3.65 for their two years at LTC.  Kohan and Bierman have been named Distinguished All-Americans for carrying a GPA above a 3.8 for their two years at LTC.

Statesmen Baseball Continues to Excel in the Classroom
For the 5th year in a row,  the Lincoln Trail Baseball Team has been named to the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year.  The Statesmen finished 14th with a team GPA of 3.22.  The 2007 Team finished 4th and the 2006 team was named the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.  The coaching staff would like to thank these young men for thier efforts and congratulate  them for this great achievment.

All these young men have performed on the field as well as in the classroom.  They were twice named to the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year, finishing 4th in 2007 and 14th in 2008, helping carry a team GPA of over 3.2 both years.  They were also members of the 2007 GRAC and Region XXIV Championship team.  The Staff and Administration of LTC are very pround of these young men and excited about thier futures.

Samuels Named NJCAA All-American

First Basemen Jake Samuels capped off an outstanding season, which saw him hit .457 for the year with 15 doubles, 4 triples and 5 home runs, by being named to the NJCAA All American team for 2008.  Jake is the 2nd Statesmen to receive this honor in the last 2 years, joining David Arnold who received the same recognition in 2006.

Pitcher Bryan Earley has signed to continue his baseball career at Illinois State University.

First baseman Jake Samuels commited to Eastern Illinois University.  Jake joins Statesmen centerfielder Chris Ulrey for the Pathers in 2008-09.  EIU captuted the 2008 OVC tournament title and will be playing in the NCAA Regionals.

Statesmen Finish Third in Region 24 Tournament

Linconl Trail dropped two games in the NJCAA Region XXIV to take third place.  After winning the 1st two games of the tourney the Statesmen lost 4-3 in 10 innings to Logan and was eliminated in the game to go back to the championship 10-8 to Rend Lake.

Ricky Marshall(6 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 7 K's) picked up the win for LTC, with Scott Schnepp(3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K) picking up the save to help the Statesmen advance to the championship round of the NJCAA Region 24 tournament.  Jeff Reinke(3-4, RS) , Zach  Gerler(2-4, RS, HR, 2 RBI), and Trent Bierman(2-4, RS) paced the offense.  Jake Samuels and Justin Smith chipped in with solo homers.

The Statesmen will take on John Logan this Monday at Rent-One ballpark in Marion, IL.  First pitch is 7pm.

LTC comes back to beat Southwestern Illinois

The Statesmen were down 9-4 in the top of the 4th, but answered back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning cutting the SWIC lead to 9-8.  Jake Anderson (5ip, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K) came into the game in the top of the 5th and held SWIC scoreless the rest of the way, allowing LTC to plate 4 more runs in route to the 12-9 win.  Andy Betts (2 2/3 IP, 5 R, 3 ER) and Taylor Schmidt(1 1/3 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K's) also saw time on the mound.  Jake Samuels (4-5, 3 RS, 3B, HR), Brent McNeil(2-5, RS, 2 RBI), Zach Gerler (2-5, RS, 2-3B, 2 RBI) and Tyler Reboulet (2-4, 2 RS, RBI) were the leading hitters for LTC.

The Statesmen travel to Belleville, IL for a DH versus SWIC on Saturday, and travel to Olney Central on Sunday for the final GRAC DH of the year.

Statemen Take Two From Sinclair

Ricky Marshall (5 1/3 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 7 K's) left with a 10-2 LTC lead only to see Sinclair score 9 runs in the sixth to take an 11-10 lead.  The Satesmen scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th to take a 13-11 lead.  Morgan Coombs (1 1/3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 K's) pitched around 3 LTC errors to pick up the win.  Chris Ulrey (2-3, 2B, 2 RS, RBI), Shawn Ferguson (2-4, 3 RS, 3 RBI), Jake Samuels (2-3, 3B, RS, 4 RBI), Travis Capps (2-3, 2B, RS, RBI), Trent Bierman (1-3, 3B, RS, RBI) and Zach Geler (1-4, RS, 2 RBI) lead the offensive attack.

LTC 8-Sinclair 1

The LTC bats exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st, and Brent McNeil (7 IP, 4 H, 1 RS, 0 ER, 6 K's) kept the Sinclair bats in check to pick up the complete game victory.  Shawn Ferguson (2-4, 2 RS, RBI), Travis Capps (2-4, RS), Chris Ulrey (1-3, 3B, RS, 2 RBI, SB), Pat Kohan (1-2, RS, RBI, SB), Zach Gerler (1-2, RS, RBI, 2 SB) and Adam Richart (1-4, RS, HR, 3 RBI) were the leading hitters.

The Statesmen host Vincennes on 3/26/08 at Parker Field with 1st pitch slated for 1pm.  LTC will travel to Decatur, GA to take on Young Harris in a 3 game series this Friday.

Jake Anderson(3 1/3 IP, 0 H, 1 r, 0 er, 3k's)  pitched well in relief of Greg Harrington(2 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 r, 1 er, 3K's) who took the hard luck loss.  Zach Gerler(1-3), Shawn Ferguson(2-3) and Jordan Foster(1-2, rs) paced the offense.

Rend Lake 4-LTC 3

Bryan Earley(6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 8K's) pitched well and left with a 3-1 lead in the 7th, only to see Rend Lake plate 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to pick up the win.  Brent McNeil(1-3, 2B, rbi), Shawn Ferguson(2-3) and Zach Gerler(1-2, rs, rbi) were the leading hitters.

LTC Take's 2 of 3 from Wabash Valley

Sophomore Brian Earley picked up his 1st win of the year going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, scattering 8 hits, while striking out 5.  Derek Grabner was very good in relief allowing just 1 hit and no runs, striking out 5 in 3 innings of work.  Morgan Coombs picked up his 1st save of the year striking out both batters he faced in the 9th.  Trent Bierman (3-4, 2 rs, hr, RBI), Justin Smith (2-5, 2-2B, RBI) and Jeff Reinke (1-4, rs, hbp) paced the offense.  

WVC 5-LTC 3

Cody Bates (5ip, 7 h, 4 r, 3er, 2 k's) took the loss for LTC, with Taylor Schmidt (2 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 0 er, 2 k's) pitching well in relief.  Deaun Williams (1-3, rs, sb, 2B), Steve Mirizzi (2-2, RBI) Jordan Foster ( 1-2, rs, 2B) and Adam Richart (2-3) were the leading hitters.

LTC 4-WVC 3

Zack Gerler's 2 out double in the bottom of the 11th plated Jordan Foster for the game winning run.  Ricky Marshall (4 2/3 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 0 er, 2 k's) pitched well in his 2nd start of the year, with Morgan Coombs (6 2/3 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 4 k's)  working big innings out of the pen to pick up the win.  Chris Ulrey (3-4, rs, 2B), Adam Richart (1-4, 2 RBI's), Steve Mirizzi (0-2, 2 rs, 3 BB) and Tyler Schnebelt (1-3) were the leading hitters.

Spring Trip Update

Gulf Coast 11-LTC 1

LTC pitchers allowed 11 runs, 7 earned on 8 hits in the season opener.  Bryan Earley (3 ip, 5 r, 3 er), Brent McNeil (2 ip, 2 r, 2 er) and Derek Grabner (1ip, 4 r, 2 er) were the pitchers of record.  Chris Ulrey (1-3, rs, bb), Steve Mirizzi (1-2, sb, bb) and Jordan Foster (1-3, 2B) were the leading hitters.

Gulf Coast 8-LTC 7

LTC took a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the 9th but were denied the victory when a 2-out, 2 rbi double allowed the winning run to cross the plate and secure the Gulf Coast win.  Scott Schnepp (3 1/13 IP, 1 h, 0 r) pitched well in relief of Ricky Marshall (3 1/3 ip, 4 h, 6 r, 5 er) and gave the Statesmen a chance to take a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the 9th.  Morgan Coombs (1 2/3 ip, 2 rs, 2 er) took the loss for LTC.  Jeff Reinke (2-4, rs, 2b, rbi), Chris Ulrey (2-4, rs, hr, 2 rbi), Justin Smith (3-4, rs, rbi) and Trent Bierman (3-5, rs) led the offense.

Iowa Central 6-LTC 0

The LTC bats managed just 4 hits and no runs in route to the loss.  Coty Bates(5ip, 5 r, 5 er, 5 k's) settled in after a shaky 1st inning where 4 IWC runs crossed the plate allowing 1 run and 1 hit in the next 4 innings.  Deaun Williams (1-3, 2b) Jeff Reinke (1-2, 2b) and Shawn Ferguson (1-2, sb) paced the offense.

LTC 14-Kankakee 3

Derek Grabner (4 2/3 ip, 4 h, 2 r, 2 er, 4 k's) and Andy Betts (2ip, 1 h, 1 r, 0 er) pitched well in relief of Jake Anderson, who spotted Kankakee and 6-0 lead in the 1st inning.  Chris Ulrey (2-2, 3b), Andrew Mosbarger (1-1, rs), Travis Capps (2-3) and Adam Richart (1-3) led the offense

Danville 4-LTC 2

Brent McNeil (4 ip, 4 r, 2 er) took the loss for the Statesmen, with Morgan Coombs (3 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 4 k's) pitching well in relief.  Zach Gerler (2-2, 2 2B, rs), Jordan Foster (2-3) and Justin Smith (1-3, 2b) were the leading hitters.

LTC is 1-5 on the year and take on Wabash Valley and Vincennes this week.

Friday, November 30
Three Statesmen Sign

Three Sophomores signed at Division I schools during the early signing period. 

Righty pitcher Ricky Marshall signed with Austin Peay University.  Marshall averaged a strikeout an inning last year with a 2-1 record.  Austin Peay advanced to the NCAA regionals last year and joins former Statesmen Brooks Hunton.

Morgan Coombs-RHP signed with Ball State.  Morgan was an All-Region XXIV Tournament performer and served as the closer for LTC last year finishing with a 5-2 records with 7 saves.

Chris Ulrey signed with Eastern Illinois University.  Ulrey lead the Statemen with 10 homeruns last year along with 15-2B and 6-3B, and committed just 2 errors in CF.

Baseball Honored Again for Work in Classroom
Baseball finishes 4th in the country for team GPA.  The 2006-07 LTC Baseball team had some big shoes to fill in the classroom, after the the 05-06 team was named the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year; they did just fine, achieving a team gpa of 3.29.  26 out of 30 players had gpa's of 3.0 or higher, they are: Andy Betts, Michael Manus, Brendon Smith, Michael Lucas, Bryan Early, Craig Bunten, Riley Tincher, Morgan Coombs, Nick Lacy, Pat Kohan, Brooks Hunton, Ricky Marshall, Trent Bierman, Adam Klatka, Corey Fagg, Ty Ethington, Kevin Gillespie, Travis Capps, Josh Hillyard, Zach Gerler, John Schlichter, Tyler Rehmel, Devin Taylor, Jeff Reinke and Chris Ulrey.  Way to go men

Michael Manus(6 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 K's) and Morgan Coombs(2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K) combined to no hit the Blue Storm, in route to the opening round 12-2 LTC victory.

LTC 6-Olney Central 4
Bryan Earley (6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 K's) got the start pitching leaving in the 6th with LTC trailing 4-0. Ty Ethington (1 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K) held OCC in check to set the stage for the 6-4 comeback victory. Morgan Coombs picked up his second win of the tourney going the final inning and a 1/3 of hitless baseball. The bats were lead by: John Schlichter (1-3, RBI), Jake Samuels (1-3, 2 RS), Devin Taylor (1-2, RS) and Travis Capps (1-3 RS). Tyler Rehmel and Kevin Gillespie pitched in with RBI singles in the 7th.

Game 4
John Logan 12-LTC 10
Brendon Smith (4 IP, 3 H, 4 RS, 2 ER) got the start and left the game with a 4-3 lead. Kyle Switalski (1 2/3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K's), Ty Ethington(2 1/3, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER), Ricky Marshall(2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 RS) and Morgan Coombs(2 2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 K's) also pitched in the 12-10, 11 inning loss. The leading hitters were: Kevin Gillespie (2-5, 2 RS), Tyler Rehmel (3-4, 2 RS, RBI), Chris Ulrey (2-6, RS, GS HR, 4 RBI) and Trent Bierman (2-3, 3 RBI)

Game 5
LTC 4-John Logan 3
Robbie Reeves (5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 K's) got the start and pitched well, leaving the game with a 3-1 deficit. Michael Manus (4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 K's) entered the game in relief of Reeves and was outstanding, blanking the Logan bats for the final 4 frames. LTC trailed 3-1 until the 9th when; Gillespie lead off with a walk, and Schlichter followed with a 1 out single, setting the stage for Brooks Hunton. Hunton drilled a fastball down the right field line for a double scoring both Schlichter and pinch runner Jeff Reinke to seal the victory and secure LTC's 2nd Region XXIV title in 3 years.

Former Statesmen Kevin Mahar has been called up to the Texas Rangers from the Oklahoma Red Hawks, the Triple A farm team. Mahar was an All-GRAC and All Region outfielder for the Statesmen in 2002. We will be posting more information on Kevin's play in future weeks.

Former Statesmen Taken in MLB Draft
TJ Brewer was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 35th round of the MLB Draft. TJ was the winning pitcher in LTC's 2005 Region XXIV Championship. He signed with Arkansas State and was named 1st Team All-Sunbelt in 2007.

Former Statesmen Signs Contract With Astros
Former Statesmen Tyler Evans spent just 2 weeks in Independant Frontier Baseball League, before the Houston Astros inked him to a Free-Agent contract. Tyler played in 17 games with the Florence Freedom before reporting the the Lexington Legends a minor league affiliate of Houston. Congrats Tyler, you earned it.

Since 2002, 49 players have signed with D-I schools.


Statesmen Blow Big Leads--Drop 4 Games to Wabash
Game 1: WVC 6--LTC 2
Ross Westdorp went 6 1/3 innings giving up only 3 runs, but the Statesmen bats were held in check, generating only 2 run on 8 hits. Andrew Wertz(2-3, rs), Cody Gilbert(2-3, rs) and Brian Smiley(1-2, 3b, 2 rbi's) were the offense for the Statesmen.

Game 2: WVC 11--LTC 6
Ryan Van Driessche struggled early and 4 Statesmen errors led to 11 Wabash runs.
TJ Brewer, Jordan Abrell, Joe Skinner, and Randy Krick all pitched well in relief.

Game 3: WVC 7--LTC 6
Dallas Sims turned over a 6-2 lead to the bullpen in the 6th inning, but Wabash Valley scored 5 in the bottom of the 6th for the 7-6 win. Mike Rogers took the loss for LTC. The leading hitters were: Nick Diem(2-4, 2 rs, 2B, HR, rbi), Cody Gilbert(2-4, 2B, 2 rbi's), Brian Smiley(2-4 rs) and Nate McKeon(2-4,rs, rbi)

Game 4: WVC 15--LTC 9
LTC held a 5-0 lead going into the 4th but Wabash scored 11 runs off Mike Mulholland and Jordan Abrell in route to the 15-9 Wabash win. Tyler Nix(1-3, 3rs, rbi), Cody Gilbert(1-3, 2 rs, HR, rbi) and Nick Diem(1-2, rs, 2 rbi's) were the leading hitters. The loss drops the Statesmen to 29-15 overall and 10-14 in the GRAC.
