4th Boys Ranking -- 2006-07 - State of Florida Soccer -- Winter Ratings

Commentary:
1.) Merritt Island (19-0-0) wins all 5 games in its bracket at the Admiral
Tournament. Impossible to make an argument against. Has not allowed more
than 1 goal in a game.
2.) Cypress Bay (14-1-0) has taken on a lot of top competition (AH plantation,
Wellington, St. Thomas, Monarch) and beat them all by a combined 10-5. The
only let down was to #9 in 6A Taravella 2-0. Cypress Bay has given up 2 goals
on 4 occasions this year, but I guess its strategy is to play offense and don't
worry about getting scored upon. Nova did it three years ago winning the 5A state
championship scoring 18 goals while allowing 7 goals in 5 state playoff games.
(3-1, 4-0, 6-3, 2-1, 3-2). Nova also won its district semifinal game 4-3
after being down 3-0. I was there, unbelievable.
3.) Boca Raton (12-0-2) has yet to play any top-top competition, but they have
beaten a lot of quality teams. The only team to put a blemish on Boca is district
opponent Atlantic Delray (11-1-4) who is almost a top-top team. They did it twice
with ties. The jury is still out on Boca as to how good they are, but they made it
to the Final 4 last year and I don't think they lost many seniors. They could go
all the way or go down in the 2nd round of the state playoffs if they get a
match-up with Cypress Bay.
4.) Countryside (18-0-2) may be the best team out of the bunch. Defending state
champs just keep winning. They play smart by getting up on a team and preserving
the win. They always seem to win comfortably, even if it is by just 1 goal.
Great teams know how to do this. Countryside has 8 wins this year by 1 goal.
The goal difference is why they aren't higher up in the mathematics-based ratings,
but if we are being truthful with ourselves, this team may be the team
to beat in 6A.

Unfortunately, Merritt Island, Jensen Beach and Monarch are in the same region, so
only one will make it to the State Finals in Ft. Lauderdale.
