Final Rating-- 2005-06 - State of Florida Boys Soccer -- Winter Ratings
Here is the 10th and final rating this year of all of Florida's High School Boys Soccer teams.
Things to Note:
1. 10 rating points = 1 goal difference between teams
2. Ratings ARE comparable across classifications
3. Games decided by Penalty Kicks are considered ties in this system, by FIFA, and all national services that keep records for High School soccer.
4. A weak schedule will hurt a top team from showing that it is consistantly able to compete with the top teams.
5. The formula eliminates earning points from blowing out weaker teams by more than 6 goals.
6. It appears that Region 1 plays Region 2 in the Final 4. Region 3 plays Region 4.

Summary: Really anyone in the top 40 has the ability to win the State Championship, but the
favorites are in the top 17.
-- #1 Wellington, despite getting tied up with Monarch in injury time 2-2, still managed to
distance itself from the rest with an excellent 3-1 over AH Plantation.
-- #2 Gaither got easy wins of 3-0 over Wharton, 4-0 over Leto, & 4-0 over Bloomingdale.
-- #3 Miami Sunset drops from #2 to #3 after it lost in PK's (counts as a tie) to #21 Miami
Goleman in the 1st round of the Miami Dade County Tournament to see who's best this year.
-- #4 Miami Varela beat #9 Coral Gables 3-1, but lost 0-1 to eventual champion #7 Miami
American.
-- #5 Coral Park wasn't invited to the Miami Dade County Tournament. No games this week.
-- #6 Countryside added no games this week
-- #7 Miami American won the Miami Dade County Tournament winning 4-1 over #19 Miami Beach,
1-0 over #4 Varela, and 3-2 over #22 Miami Springs.
-- #8 Miami Killian wasn't invited to the tournament, but did beat Braddock 4-1 this week.
-- #9 Coral Gables lost to #4 Varela 1-3 in the 1st round of the Miami Dade Co. Tournament.
-- #10 Douglas did just enough to hold on to the #10 ranking, but really it had two lackluster
performances with a 3-0 win over #80 in 6A South Broward and only a 1-0 win over #43 in 4A
Cardinal Gibbons.

5A: Rankings for Florida - (Entire state includes 107 schools)
Summary: At the 5A level more teams are capable of pulling the upset. I'd say all of the
top 25 teams have a shot at winning the title, but the favorites are clearly in the top 11.
-- #1 Palm Harbour keeps looking better and better as it knocks of #5 Seminole Pinellas 2-1.
-- #2 Auburndale stays put with two decent wins over Lakeland 4-1 and Lake Wales 3-1.
-- #3 Satellite's record was updated to include 4 more wins. If it all plays out to
form...maybe it's St. Thomas and Satellite in the Regional Final.
-- #4 George Jenkins gets a 3-2 win over Riverview and a 1-0 win over Sarasota.
-- #5 Seminole Pinellas gets its second win of the season over Tampa Jesuit 2-1 and then runs
into #1 Palm Harbour losing 1-2.
-- #6 St. Thomas tied AH Plantation 1-1 with both scoring on PK's, but Heritage hit the
woodwork a few times throughout the match. STA also defeated 6A Cooper City 3-1.
-- #7 Tampa Freedom added a good 5-1 win over Durant.
-- #8 Wolfson got a 3-2 win over Ocala Forest and a forfeit win over Forrest of Jacksonville.
-- #9 Wharton drops from #5 to #9 with a 0-3 loss to Gaither. It did however, have two wins
over Hillsborough 6-2 and Robinson 7-1.
-- #11 Niceville put its name in the running for "Best of the North" as it beat Leon 1-0,
Lincoln 1-0 and Choctaw 2-1. Don't forget it tied Gaither earlier this year 0-0.

4A: Rankings for Florida - (Entire state includes 99 schools)
Summary: Depending on how the Regions are aligned...it is conceivable that the Final 8 teams
in the state playoffs could consist of teams all in the top 10. Amazing how 4A has changed
in just one year. This should be fun to watch unfold.
-- #1 Jensen Beach ends the regular season with a strong 3-1 win vs. 6A Centennial (10-4-1)
-- #2 Tampa Jesuit crushed #10 in 3A Berkeley Prep 5-0, but lost for the 2nd time this season
to #5 in 5A Seminole Pinellas 2-1.
-- #3 Immokalee was idle
-- #4 Monarch had the biggest week moving up 2 spots after an injury-time equalizer against
Wellington to earn a 2-2 tie. Then for fun Monarch just humiliated a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
team in 6A Western 8-0.
-- #5 Merritt Island got a "good" loss in a 1-2 defeat at the hands of #3 in 5A Satellite.
-- #6 Pasco dropped a couple notches after an early season 3-1 win over Zypherhills was found.
I have 5A Zypherhills as 0-3, so the modest win was enough to drop Pasco's rating a bit.
-- #7 Menendez keeps its place in line after a 5-3 win over last weeks #55 in 6A Flagler Palm
Coast and a 0-1 loss to #23 in 5A Fleming Island.
-- #8 Bishop Kenny updated its record and got a nice boost of 3 points. Also this week it
defeated Leon 4-2 and lost to Lincoln 0-2.
-- #9 Middleburg won 3-2 over 5A Columbia & won 2-1 over #17 St. Augustine.

Summary: In the state playoffs -- Region 3 and 4 are stacked. Region 2 is very weak. If
Bolles makes it to the Final 4, it would be a 1.3 goal favorite to make it to the Finals.
But, anything can happen.
-- #1 American Heritage Plantation finished the season with a couple of last minute tests to
prepare for the best 3A has. (T 1-1 St. Thomas and L 1-3 Wellington) It outplayed St. Thomas
and were a bit unlucky clanging the crossbar and post. In the end, both Heritage and St.
Thomas could only convert PK's in a 1-1 tie. Wellington, coming off a tie with Monarch,
decided to take out it's anger on Heritage with a 3-1 statement.
-- #2 Gulliver Prep holds on to the #2 spot with two wins over Miami Country Day and
Chaminade, but should have walked away dejected after a 0-0 tie with a 6A Western (2-6-5)
team that is the most unpredicable team in the state....even stranger than Florida Christian.
-- Nothing on Walton, but I'm keeping them here just so everyone knows they might be able to play.
-- #3 Pope John Paul jumps 2 spots after destroying a good 6A Park Vista (9-8-3) 7-1.
-- #4 MCC secures the fourth spot after an ok 4-2 result over 6A Palm Bay (1-5-1). MCC didn't really lose the #3 rating; Pope John Paul simply earned it.
-- #5 Verot routed Naples 8-0 and took a tough 0-1 loss to 5A N. Ft. Myers (13-3-5).
-- #6 Bolles is ready for anyone in Region 1 as it lays it on thick against Stanton 5-1.
-- #7 Ransom Everglades moved up from #10 after an 8-0 drubbing of #37 Archbishop Carroll.
Ransom made what seems to be a big leap, but really the teams were so close before, so a solid win by Ransom & a loss by Berkeley and close win by CCC opened the door for Ransom.
-- #8 CCC gains a spot after a solid 3-2 win over #14 Trinity Prep.
-- #9 St. Pete Catholic is reshuffled from #8 to #9 after a week with no games added.
-- #10 Berkeley Prep won 2-1 versus #19 Lake Highland, but got trounced 0-5 by Tampa Jesuit. The big loss dropped Berkeley from #7 to #10.
-- #11 Episcopal (jax) enters district play with excellent momentum after its impressive tie with 6A Mandarin 1-1.
-- #13 Florida Christian gets a good 2-1 over #9 in 2A Evangelical Ft.Myers.
-- #14 Trinity Prep is trying to show it belongs in the state playoff picture with a 3-1 win over #5 in 2A Orangewood and a close 2-3 loss to #8 in 3A CCC. However, it did suffer a 0-4 loss to a strong 6A Winter Springs. Don't be surprised if Trinity Prep gets to the Final 4. It's the top team in Region 2. And then at the Final 4 anything can happen.
