10,234 phone books collected!!!

Schools delivered 10,234 phone books to the Recycling Center Saturday, January 21. Stan Fullingim, Recycling Coordinator, raved about the amount of material received (at least 12 yards). "That's a lot," he said. "By far the best Saturday I've ever seen."

Roff Elementary, is this year's big winner, collecting 2,901 phone books! ARC will award Roff with $100.

Listed below are the ten (10) participating schools and the amount of phone books each collected. ARC will award each winning classroom with a "Pizza Party!"

Latta Elementary School
Latta Elementary School was this year's $100 winner (for the second year in a row) for collecting the most phone books with 1331. Congratulations! The nine participating schools collected a combined 5,316 phone books, which were then transported to a recycling center by the City of Ada.

Here are the results of ARC's 5th annual Telephone Book Recycling Contest:

Latta Elementary Wins--Collects 1,681 Books in 2004!
Nine area schools participated in the Ada Recycling Coalition’s annual telephone book collection contest. These schools collected 7,515 books, which were then hauled off by the City of Ada for recycling.

Latta School is this year’s $100-gift certificate winner by collecting 1,681 phone books. The following are the results from each participating school:

1. Latta School (1,681)
2. Washington Grade Center (1,458)
3. Hayes Grade Center (1,280)
4. Picket-Center (812)
5. Ada Jr. High (776)
6. Roff Elementary (506)
7. Willard (440)
8. Allen (435)

In addition, the winning classroom at each participating school was awarded a pizza party compliments of ARC. The following are the winning classrooms and the amount of books each collected.

ARC and area students were able to divert 4,209 telephone books from the City's landfill this month. Congratulations to the six winning classrooms. Each classroom will receive a pizza party compliments of ARC, as follows:

   Mrs. Wellington's 5th grade class at Roff (1,549)
   Mrs. Shivers' pre-kindergarten class at Latta (519)
   Ms. Deaton's kindergarten class at Allen (323)
   Ms. Maloy's 2nd grade class at Hayes (209)
   Ms. Allred's 2nd-hour seniors at Byng (179)
   Mr. Prewitt's 4th grade class at Picket-Center (154)

Karisa Davis was the top collector at Byng High School with 100 phone books collected for recycling.

Telephone Book Collection Contest
Phone Books are Recyclable!
ARC is sponsoring its 4th annual telephone book collection contest for area schools and will treat students in the top three (3) classrooms to a "pizza party!"

All unwanted phone books are to be bundled and dropped off at the recycling center on Saturday, January 11 from 9 am to 11 am. Each participating school is to report its top three classrooms (schools may have more than one winner).

Washington Grade Center Wins Phone Book Contest

ARC awards TV/VCR to Washington Grade Center
ARC recently conducted a "telephone book recycling contest" for all area schools. Participating schools collected unwanted phone books and delivered them to the City's Recycling Center on 12th Street.

Nearly 6,000 books were collected!

Washington Elementary was the big winner collecting 1684 books. ARC present Mrs. Rita Cloar and her students with a TV/VCR for their school. "Winning isn't as important as helping our environment by recycling," Mrs. Cloar told to her students during assembly.

In addition, the winning classroom at each participating school was awarded a pizza party, as follows:
