PLAY BASEBALL THIS FALL, Ages 7-16
(Deadline Extended to AUGUST 20!)
If the spring season was not enough, and you really love baseball, then
play baseball for the Cardinals this fall (September-October).
Most experienced ball players agree that fall ball is the best season of all! The weather is perfect, the competition is good, and the experience is unforgettable!
But HURRY -- the deadline for signing up is Friday, August 20!
PLAY SOFTBALL THIS SUMMER AND FALL - FOR FREE!
(Girls Ages 8-12)
We are happy to offer FREE softball this summer and fall to girls ages 8-14. You read that right -- FREE! We think that softball is a great sport, which offers so many positive benefits to girls--physically, mentally, and socially. Our program will be set up to teach newcomers the basics of the game; to reinforce more advanced skills for players with experience; and to offer ALL a chance to play more games and bring their play up to the next level for next spring. All softball will take place at DiMattina Field, located in Carroll Gardens (easy to get to by F/G trains and right off the Hamilton Ave exit on the BQE).
SUMMER: We will meet EVERY Monday night, 6:00-8:00 pm at DiMattina Field, starting July 13 through the end of August. The program is ABSOLUTELY FREE.
FALL: We will run the program on the weekends; time to be announced. We will adapt the program to the number of girls involved. The more we have, we will additional slots and provide additional games.
[We can't resist taking this opportunity to congratulate our own Cardinals teams on winning championships this spring -- the 12-14s who won the Girls Varsity A division of the St. Anselm's league, and the 8-10s who won the Mustang division in the Prospect Park league. You rock, girls!]
INSTRUCTIONAL BASEBALL THIS SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER
(Boys & Girls Ages 4-6)
Our very successful spring Instructional sessions are growing! This year we are adding a session in the fall! Every Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm at DiMattina Field, September 13-November 1, we will offer a full program for boys and girls ages 4-6 to teach them the fundamentals of the game.
Our program stresses having fun, at the same time we teach the kids the basics of batting, throwing, fielding, and running. For players who have already gone through the spring session, or for older 5s and 6s who already have played on a team before, we will also offer an advanced session stressing the playing of games more than drills, to better teach different game strategies. Your little sluggers will love it!
WEEKLY BASEBALL CLINICS FOR PLAYERS AGES 7-8!
This fall we are pleased to start a new program of baseball clinics for kids ages 7-8 to give them the training they'll need for the Spring 2010 season. This new program is modelled on our very successful Instructional sessions for kids ages 4-6. Basically, our goal is to teach these young players the fundamentals of the game--throwing, fielding, batting, and running--and to build their confidence as they learn these skills in a gentle and supportive environment. We start off slowly with skills sessions, then move on to playing mock games, then start to introduce strategies. We also will be working on advanced skills such as bunting, base stealing, outfield relays, double plays, etc.
When kids have completed the program, they will be ready to face next spring's season with confidence. So, help give them a headstart on next year by having them play this fall. This program will take place entirely at DiMattina Field.
COACHES NEEDED!
We always need coaches to help lead our teams in the summer and fall seasons. So let us know if you are interested in continuing to coach. And if you are a parent who has considered coaching before but haven't yet, this could be a great opportunity for you to learn the ropes.
ANTI-RECRUITING POLICY
The SHYP summer and fall programs are designed primarily to offer the opportunity for kids to play ball, and for coaches to continue coaching, when the organizations they play for in the spring are not offering teams of their own. We DO NOT recruit players or coaches away from other organizations, and are ONLY interested in 'borrowing' them for these other seasons. We expect that ALL of them will return to their home organizations in the spring. We have been running these summer and fall programs for 4 years now, with hundreds of players having joined us from other groups, and we always seek to keep the trust of our fellow organizations. If you become aware that one of our coaches is recruiting players, please let me know personally.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time. Email is best, but if it's brief, then call.
Thank you!
Steve
