Be a Good Sports Parent!!!
If there is one thing I would like to see in our program it would be this....
BE A GOOD SPORTS PARENT!!!!
This year St Helens High School passed out a flyer to parents who's children are involved in athletics. This is what is read.
Encourage your child, regardless of his or her degree of success or skill level.
Ensure a balance, in your child's athletic life, encouraging participation in multiple sports and activities while placing academics first.
Emphasize enjoyment, development of skills and team play should be the cornerstone of early sports experience while reserving more serious competition for the high school varsity level.
Leave coaching to coaches and avoid placing too much pressure on your child about playing time and performance.
Be realistic about your child's future in athletics, recognizing that only a select few earn a college scholarship, compete in the Olympics or sign a professional contract.
Be there when your student athlete looks to the sidelines for a positive role model.
OTHER WORDS TO LIVE BY
Don't act like a jerk in front of your kids: refrain from shouting obscenities that may embarrass your child. BE ENCOURAGING.
Other teams are just kids too. The other team is just a bunch of kids in defferent uniforms. Treat them as kindly as you would want your children to be treated.
Treat the officials appropriately. They are not going to call each contest perfectly. And THEIR KIDS TOO.
