GREER ENDS EARLY
By KEVIN MELTON, For the Herald-Journal, Published: Sunday, July 6, 2008
Greer opted to end the season before it was officially over.
Post 115, eliminated from playoff contention, finished the season 1-11.
Greer athletic director Harold Brown says his team will return to League VI despite rumors saying otherwise.
"There isn't a problem with that," Brown said. "We'll be back on our legion field next year, and we'll be stronger."

Greer Post 115 off to late start
American Legion team hasn't had much practice time because of field renovationsBy DAN ARMONAITIS, Published: Sunday, May 25, 2008
One of the biggest challenges facing Greer head coach Ken Farmer heading into this season was finding a place for Post 115 to call home.
With Stevens Field unavailable while renovations are being made to the historic facility, Greer will play its home games this year at Riverside High School.
Before the start of the season, however, Post 115 hasn’t had a practice facility since it held tryouts. To compensate, Farmer scheduled a few extra preseason games for his team.
“Right now, we don’t have a place to practice, so that’s been a challenge,” Farmer said. “But we’ve tried to get them on the field as much as we can so that they can develop some chemistry.”
The bulk of this year’s roster consists of high school players from Greer, Blue Ridge, Eastside, J.L. Mann and Hampton Park. There are also college players from North Greenville, Spartanburg Methodist and Bluefield State.
“We’ve got some good ball players, it’s just a matter of getting them on the same page and getting them used to playing together,” Farmer said.
Greer returns a solid nucleus from last year’s squad, including .300-plus hitters Justin Huesby, Bryan Carroll and Derrick Cline.
Cline, a left-hander, was also the anchor of Post 115’s pitching staff last season. The Blue Ridge High School graduate attended North Greenville this year.
“He’s a little rusty because he didn’t get to play this season (in college), but I think he’ll do all right,” Farmer said. “He did really well for us last year.”
Brothers Brad and Matt Holliday join Carroll as returnees from Greer High School. A fourth Yellow Jacket, Neil Caldwell, will be playing his first season with the team.
Third baseman Ricky Young, a newcomer from Blue Ridge, is expected to provide a jolt to the lineup.
Post 115 is fielding a team for the second consecutive year. Greer didn’t have a team the previous season because of declining interest.
“It’s definitely encouraging to see so many people interested in trying out again,” Farmer said. “Hopefully, these kids will come together and build some camaraderie. If they can do that, I think we can be better than we were last year.”
