The Spartanburg Vikings made the race for the Region II-4A baseball championship a little tighter last week with a 7-4 win against No. 2 Boiling Springs.
“That puts us back in the hunt,” coach Tom Myers said.
Now, the Vikings are in third place at 3-2, while the Bulldogs are still on top at 4-1 and Dorman is in second place at 3-1.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Vikings, as they host Dorman at 7 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Park in a make-up game.
The win against the defending 4A champions was certainly one that the young Vikings needed.
“I think it gave our team some confidence and hopefully we can carry it on,” Myers said.
The Vikings got a 10-strikeout performance from sophomore Brandon Landrie, as well as four RBIs from Luke Weber and two hits each from Clark Wise, Brian Poteat and Caleb Jennings.
Myers said that Landrie is getting attention from Clemson and South Carolina because of his fastball that hits in the high-80s and low-90s on the radar gun.
