Proposal moves Spartanburg to Region III-4A
By KEVIN MELTON, Herald-Journal, Published: Monday, August 3, 2009
Five area schools will soon be logging a few more miles for region games.
The South Carolina High School League staff received an approval from its executive committee for its realignment proposal effective for the 2010-2012 school years.
Broome, Chapman, Chesnee, Spartanburg and Woodruff are all affected by the new proposal.
The proposal would move Spartanburg into Region III-4A with Gaffney, Clover, Lancaster, Northwestern and Rock Hill.
Boiling Springs, Byrnes, Dorman, Hillcrest, J.L. Mann, Mauldin and Riverside will make up Region II-4A.
“We’re not satisfied,” Spartanburg athletic director Myles Wilson said. “I will be getting together with (our administration) and see if we should appeal and what our options are. We would have to come up with another proposal and get the other schools to agree to the changes.”
The common theme among athletic directors is dealing with a struggling economy and travel expenses to play region games.
The Webmaster's question is: Why isn't Ft. Mill in Region-III in stead of Spartanburg? This proposal makes no sense.
