SHARON 20 KARNS CITY 13
SHARON 33 NORTH EAST 0 (District 10 Championship) The Tigers crushed Erie County League Champion North East Grapepickers as they captured their fourth consecutive AA district title. Led by Sophomore running back Mike Bochert's two touchdowns and 175 yards rushing the Tigers rolled up a total of 306 yards on the ground on their way to a 33-0 route over the Grapepickers. Tiger signal caller Mike Schneider had another great game as he was 7 of 8 passing for 68 yards, 1 TD pass and 2 TD runs. Sharon outgained North East 374 to 141 in total yardage. *For pics of the game click on the picture above. SHARON 14 MERCYHURST PREP 7 Sharon knocked off #4 ranked Mercyhurst Prep who came in to the game undefeated (9-0) by the score of 14-7. The strong Tiger defense limited the high scoring offense of Prep who had been averaging 44.2 points per game to one lone touchdown. The Lakers, who had been outscoring their opponents by an amazing 38 points per game were pretty much held in check with a stingy D that led the Tigers to victory. *Click on the picture for more pics of the game. SHARON 37 SLIPPERY ROCK 0 Sharon recorded yet another shut-out as the Tigers rebounded from a tough loss the week before. With the snow coming down the Tigers put together a good offense and defense as they grounded the Rockets for the 14th time in 14 meetings. *For more pics of the game click on the picture. SHARON 20 WILMINGTON 21 The Tigers came up just short going for the winning two-point conversion in overtime, but showed alot of people what they were capable of doing as they were leading the Hounds for most of the game until the final minute of the game. From the opening drive when the Tigers pounded their way down the field and scored until the end Sharon seemed like it was going to be their night. Using a "new look" backfield including 6'2 260 pound fullback Wade Vogan and 6'3 230 tailback Justin Schweiss the Tigers seemed to find themselves since they lost two of their top players to injury in the past month. It was a tough loss, but the Tigers seemed to play with more confidence and fire. *For more pics of the game click on the picture. SHARON 29 HICKORY 21 In one of the best comebacks in Tiger history Sharon came back and scored 3 unanswered touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to keep their playoff hopes alive. SHARON 12 REYNOLDS 13 The Tigers struggled trying to find an offense as they lost their top 2 running backs to injury in two of the past three weeks. Sharon tried using a pass oriented attack, but because of the weather conditions were not able to put together much offense. The Raiders beat the Tigers for the first time in 14 years (9-6 loss in '87). Reynolds would later move on to win the MCAC, but lose to North East in the playoffs who in turn the Tigers beat to win the District 10 title. SHARON 63 MERCER 0 The Tigers rolled up 49 points in the first half and had 464 yards of total offense for the game as Sharon rolled over the Mustangs 63-0. QB Mike Schneider had a great night. He was 13 for 21 for 287 yards and 5 TD's. Gary malgieri led the receivers with 4 recptions for 70 yards. TE/DE Leroy Taylor had 2 receptions for 67 yards and 2 TD's, but suffered a severe injury early in the game. He would eventually be out for just about the remainder of the season. Freshman Todd Porterfield led the Tigers in rushing with 78 yards on 9 carries and had 2 touchdowns. SHARON 17 COLUMBUS WATTERSON 44 After shutting down their first three opponents the Tigers were downed as the Eagles from Columbus Bishop Watterson defeated the Tigers 44-17 in Columbus. The game was closer than the score indicates as Watterson scored two 4th quarter touchdowns on a fumble and a long run with a 2 minutes to go. Sharon's defense had a tough time stopping Eagle running back Moore who had over 200 yards against the usually stingy Tiger D. Late in the 3rd quarter Sharon almost came within 6, but they were held with no points following a first and goal from the Watterson 10 yard line where Leroy Taylor was interfered with, but there was no call. As the rain started to pour Tiger star tailback Marcus Smith suffered a knee injury and had to leave the game. The Tigers were unable to score and weren't able to put another drive together as they went down to defeat. On a side note Sharon's exceptional kicker Jim Morocco connected on a 41 yard field goal in the first half. He also had more than one kickoff into the endzone. Columbus Watterson would later move on to the division 2 Ohio State Championship and become state runner-up after a 28-14 loss. *For more pics of the game click on the picture.
