Morocco looking good at Harvard While very rarely does a true freshman get to dress their first year at Harvard, Tiger alumn Jim Morocco has not only dressed, but has also seen some solid playing time. Right now Jim is the back-up kicker, but has started a few games for the Crimson. Morocco kicked a 29 yard field goal at Princeton along with three PAT's. Conratulations to Jim on a great start in the Ivy league... SHARON TIGERS...MCAC AA CHAMPS...AGAIN!! The Tigers took out the Greenville Trojans 7-6 to win the MCAC AA title. In a rain soaked game were both sides had numerous fumbles, Tiger star Marcus Smith ran for 151 yards on 31 carries and a touchdown to lead Sharon into the playoffs once again. Sharon outgained Greenville in total yards 221 to 159, first downs 12 to 7 and most importantly points 7-6. Due to the sloppy weather Sharon had 4 fumbled snaps and lost 3. Greenville had 7 fumbles, but only lost 2. There wasn't many penalties with each team receiving 3, Sharon for 25 yards and Greenville with 15. Besides Smith's 151 yard rushing performance Kelvin Newby had 7 carries for 33 yards, QB T.J. Burke 7-27 and Marcus Gilliland 3-10. The offensive line Logan Malie, Casey Pagliarini, Jon Hunter, Ron Rodgers, Austin Papay, Dan Tomko and Leroy Taylor all played well up front opening it up for the Tiger ballcarriers. TIGERS DOWNED BY DUQUESNE The TIGERS lost a close one in Duquesne today 15-12. The TIGERS for the most part contained the Indians star running back Windell Brown on the ground except for a 42 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The defense gave up a few big plays, but overall looked impressive. The offense seemed to sputter, but there were a few bright spots on O, one of which was sophomore tailback Kelvin Newby, a newcomer who ran for 50 yards on only 8 carries. FB/LB Leroy Taylor was injured in the first quarter and was unable to return. Good luck to the TIGERS next Saturday vs. Pius X. *For pics of the game click on the picture. *For stats from the game click on the title link above. Who was the best running back to ever play for Sharon? How far will Sharon go this year? (2001) HARRIS PLAYS IN EAST-WEST GAME
MARLIN JACKSON ALL-AMERICAN AND PA. PLAYER OF THE YEAR Superstar Marlin Jackson, rated as one of the top six defensive backs in the nation was selected by USA Today's as a FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN. He was one of eleven on defense in the nation to get the honor. He was one of only two Pennsylvania players selected. Also, USA Today named Jackson as Pennsylvania Player of the Year. It was awarded to the top player in each state regardless of class. Marlin has made a verbal commitment to play for the Wolverines of Michigan next year in Ann Arbor. Congratulations to Marlin! THREE TIGERS MAKE FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE Sharon placed three players on the FIRST TEAM Pennsylvania Small School All-State Team. WR Terrance Phillips, DB Marlin Jackson and DL Kevin Harris. All three had excellent years for the Tigers and have been heavily recruited throughout the nation. On a down note Tiger superstar RB Carmone Parchman who had over 2,100 rushing yards this year with 35 touchdowns and over 1,900 rushing yards last year for some reason did not make all-state. Parchman was by far one of the best running backs in the state in any class and may have been one of the fastest players anywhere running a 4.3 to 4.4. All four players are very well deserving all-staters and should succeed at the next level.
