Somerville High School Baseball: Trum Field
trum

The Home of Highlander Baseball
Trum Field will take its place as one of the top high school baseball fields in the state after a two-year, $5 million dollar project is completed prior to the 2004 season. Located on the heart of the City of Somerville, the stadium has provided thousands fans with the feeling of having "the best seat in the house" to watch the finest baseball action in the state of Massachusetts.   There are on-going efforts to keep Trum Field one of the top facilities in local baseball. Truly a "player's ballpark," the stadium has had many upgrades since it opened in 1925: the addition of a state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard, along with planned improvements including a locker room and batting cage.
Trum Field, named after the late Somerville Resident Richard Trum, who died in the First World War. The stadium is one of the best places in the state to watch a game.   Stadium capacity is estimated at 4,000.
The playing surface dimensions measure 310 feet to leftfield, 330 feet to left center, 380 to center with no fence from right center to the right field foul line. Over the years the field has seen minor adjustments, the extension of the left field fence, the replacement of light poles and the installation of the electronic scoreboard. All of these improvements have improved the playing area.   The scoreboard in left provides game information that helps give Trum Field a "big league" feel. The new and improved playing field itself is also often compared to that of a major league field. The Somerville Parks Departments Bert Switzer and his crew, oversee the everyday upkeep of the playing surface and surroundings, spending hours on the field year-round. The dedication and hard work of Somerville Parks Department were rewarded as Trum Field has been largely considered one of the best amateur baseball fields in Eastern Massachusetts.
