SHOWDOWN TOURNAMENT FORMAT



The Showdown Tournament game format consists of division of 4 teams through 10 teams.  The details below provide the format for each division including regular, quarter-final, semi-final, and final games.  Division size depends on the number of teams applying at a particular age and level.

DIVISION DESCRIPTION



4

Four teams makeup one division.  Each team plays each other once for a total of three regular tournament games.  Based on these games the 1st and 2nd place teams advance to final game.  The other two teams do not advance.







5

Five teams makeup one division. Each team plays two regular tournament games.  Based on these games, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams advance to the semi-final games.  The 4th and 5th place teams play a quarter-final game to determine which team advances to the semi-final game.  The teams advancing to the semi-finals, the 1st place team plays the winner of the quarter final 4th vs 5th and the 2nd place team plays the 3rd place team.  The teams winning the semi-final games advance to play each other in the final game.

Six teams makeup one division. Each team plays two regular tournament games.  Based on these games, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,  and 4th place teams advance to the semi-final games.  The 5th and 6th place teams play a third game as a consolation game.  The teams advancing to the semi-finals, the 1st place team plays the 4th place team and the 2nd place team plays the 3rd place team.  The teams winning the semi-final games advance to play each other in the final game

Six teams makeup one division.  Each team plays three regular tournament games.  Based on these games the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams advance to the semi-finals, where the 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd.  The other two teams do not advance.  The teams winning the semi-final games advance to the final game.

Seven teams makeup one division.  Each team plays two regular tournament games.  Based on these games the 1st place team advances directly to the semi-finals.  The other teams play a quarter final round, where 2nd place vs 7th place, 3rd place vs 6th place, and 4th place vs 5th place.  The winners of the quarter finals advance to the semi-finals, where the winner of the 4th vs 5th place plays the 1st place team and the winner of the 2nd vs 7th plays the winner of the 3rd vs 6th.  The winners of the semi-finals advance to the final game.







8

Eight teams makeup two divisions (A&B) where each division consists of four teams.  The teams in division A or B will play each other once for a total of three regular tournament games.  The top two teams from each division advance to the semi-finals where the 1st place team from Division A plays the 2nd place team from Division B and the 2nd place team from Division A plays the 1st place team from Division B.  The other two teams from each division do not advance.  The teams winning the semi-final games advance to the final game.










9

Nine teams makeup one division.  Each team plays two regular tournament games.  Based on these games the 8th and 9th place teams play a third game to determine which team advances to the quarter-finals. The teams in the quarter finals, the 1st place team plays the winner of the 8th vs 9th, game, the 2nd place vs 7th place, 3rd place vs 6th place, and 4th place vs 5th place.  The winners of the quarter finals advance to the semi-finals.  The teams in the semi-finals, the winners of the 1st vs 8th/9th game plays winner of 4th vs 5th game, while the winner of the 2nd vs 7th game plays winner of 3rd vs 6th game.  The winners of the semi-finals advance to the final game.










10

Ten teams makeup one division.  Each team will play two regular tournament games.  Based on these two games teams will be placed in 1st through 10th place.  The 1st through 8th place teams advance to the quarter-finals and the 9th and 10th place teams to the consolation.  In the quarter final round the teams will play as follows: 1st vs 8th; 2nd vs 7th; 3rd vs 6th; and 4th vs 5th.  The winners of these games advance to the semi-finals games where the winning teams will be ranked 1st through 4th .based upon the result of their two regular and quarter final games.  The 1st place team will play the 4th place team and the 2nd place team will play the 3rd place team.  The winners of the semi-final games advance to the final game.  As for the consolation game this is the final game played by the 9th and 10th place teams
