SHOWDOWN TOURNAMENT RULES
Tournament Rules (USA Hockey and More)
The Showdown Tournaments sanctions each tournament with USA Hockey and abides by USA Hockey rules unless otherwise noted. We encourage coaches to speak to a tournament director for specific guidance on tournament rules and to referees for any interpretation of USA Hockey rules. All players participating must register with USA Hockey, while each participating team must submit an official USA Hockey roster listing each participant on its team. Any player participating in the tournament that is not on the signed USA Hockey team roster will be disqualified from tournament. Below are tournament rules outside of USA hockey:

Tournament Rule Explained
|
|
1
|
All players must be on a single certified USA hockey roster to
participate in the games. Any player not on the USA hockey roster
will be disqualified from the tournament games. This will also cause a
game forfeit if it's determined that this player influenced the outcome
of the game. Managers must have a copy of the certified USA hockey
roster with them at all times. Players can only be registered with one
team for the tournament. In cases of injury (e.g. goalie), a team may
discuss the use of another goalie from a team within its association or
from another tournament team that is of similar calibers.
|
|
2
|
Any team not staying at a host hotel and at the tournament group rate
(except for local teams) are immediately disqualified from the
tournament. Teams misbehaving at the hotel or causing damage to
hotel property will be disqualified from the tournament. Parents must
supervise their children at the hotel to reduce noise levels and
disruption to hotel guests. If a problem arises at the hotel the team
contact must speak with the tournament director. |
|
3
|
All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games with a maximum
of four or five games. All teams must be ready 15 minutes prior to
their scheduled game time and be ready to go on the ice early if
necessary. All teams will receive a three-minute running time warm-
up period. Further, each team receives one, one-minute time out
during each game. No time out is permitted in any overtime period
unless it was not used during the regular periods. |
|
4
|
All games played for mite and squirt are 12 minute stop time periods, and peewee, bantams and midgets are 13 minute stop time periods. Whenever a team leads by five or more goals in the third period, the play becomes running time. Stop time resumes any time the goal differential changes to less than five goals. Additionally, any games that are scheduled before the rinks public skating sessions or other non-tournament ice times may experience running time in the third period and if the tournament gets too far off schedule. A tournament official will make this decision and inform scorekeeper, referees and teams.
|
|
5
|
Penalty times are in accordance with USA Hockey except for games
that go to overtime (see tiebreaking rules). Any game misconduct’s
called against a player/coach during the tournament will be official.
The player/coach must serve the full penalty and sit out a tournament
game if required. The no tolerance rule is strictly enforced. Coaches
or players reprimanding the referees will not be tolerated. Any
fisticuffs during the tournament result in automatic suspension from
the tournament games. Team managers will be required to show their
previous game sheet to a tournament official prior to the start of their
next game for any game where a player or coach received a game
misconduct. This is necessary because teams play at different rink. |
|
6
|
Only coaches can present disputes to the tournament director. All protest must in writing and turned into the tournament officials for review. Parents and players cannot participate in this process. Managers must have their certified USA Hockey roster available for review.
|
|
7
|
The home team chooses the jersey color to wear for the game. Home
team must inform the visiting team of their choice; however, if a team
only has one set of jerseys then the other team must wear an
appropriate shirt color. |
|
8
|
Each team is responsible for obtaining and completing the game
sheet. The first team arriving to the rink obtains the game sheet from
the tournament officials. Once completed, they will provide the other
team the game sheet to complete. This team is then responsible for
submitting the game sheet to the timekeeper. |
|
9
|
All teams must clean their locker rooms to get back their drivers
license or car keys. Teams will be fined by the rink and tournament
for any damage done to the locker room. Fines must be paid
immediately. No locker rooms are assigned to the teams during the
Showdown Olympics. Players can get dressed in any available locker
room or other area in the rink available for dressing. Players and
parents are responsible for their belongings inside or outside the
locker room. |
|
10
|
Parents from the home and visiting team can work the penalty boxes--tournament staff will not be assigned this duty. Tournament staff will keep score for all games. No one is authorized in the scorekeeping area except for tournament staff. Parents must refrain from yelling, arguing, and use of inappropriate language towards any tournament official.
|
|

|
Parents and coaches must maintain control during all tournament games. Remember these are just kids, your kids, playing a recreational/extracurricular activity for their enjoyment. Parents and coaches are encouraged to cheer for their teams and to support the other teams. |

Player Penalties
|
Penalties given during the overtime periods depart from USA Hockey rules. When a penalty is assessed the non-penalty team gets to add a player. For example 4 on 4 will go to a 5 on 4, a 3 on 3 will go to a 4 on 3, and a 2 on 2 will go to a 3 on 2. All penalties are one minute in duration. Any penalties called during a 1 on 1 equals a penalty shot.
