2008 HOME RUN HITTERS

Sat. May 31
Riley Sullivan (Majors Diamondbacks) was all over a 1-1 pitch like a bad hairpiece on my uncle Vinnie, exlpoding for a mammoth, towering 2-run home run to center with 1 out in the bottom of the 3rd, expanding and cementing the Dbacks’ Championship game lead vs. the Yankees (his 4th home run).

Thu. May 29
Nick Paciorek (AAA Angels) lashed at a 1-1 pitch that was hanging like a plaid lesure suit on a used car salesman, sending the ball soaring out to left for 2 in the bottom of the 2nd, breaking a 5-5 tie to pull his team ahead and on to the championship game Saturday, vs. the Phillies (his 2nd home run).
Troy Loizzo (AAA Phillies) started the playoff game plunking a solo shot in the top of 1st vs. the Angels (his 1st home run).
Tucker McMeekin (AA Angels) opened the playff game scoring with 1 out in the top of the 1st, pounding the first pitch out over the Galpin Ford “bullseye” sign vs. the Cubs (his 1st home run).
Aidan Cole (AA Angels) unloaded on a pitch for a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the 4th vs. the Cubs (his 1st home run).
Tucker McMeekin (AA Angels) followed his teammates round-tripper and attacked an 0-1 offering, pulling out a spirited solo home run to left in the top of 4th vs. the Cubs (his 2nd home run).

Wed. May 28
Harris Girocco (Majors Angels) continued his effort to keep his team advancing to the finals, tarring a 1-1 pitch and depositing the ball far away just left of dead center, for a solo trip around the bases with 2 outs in the top of 6th vs. the Twins (his 10th home run).Nick Paciorek (AAA Angels) worked a full count out of the pitcher with 1 out in the top of the 4th, then smothered a 2-run home run out straight-away to center, breaking open a scoreless battle vs. the Dodgers (his 1st home run).

Tue. May 27
Riley Sullivan (Majors Diamondbacks) led his team into the lead with no outs in the bottom of the 1st, pulling a hard drive up the left field line to score 3 on a full count offering, leaving enough space for the Dbacks to stay up and advance to the championship game vs. the Yankees (his 3rd home run).
Jeff Lung (AAA Yankees) erected an enourmous sky fly to left, with 2 out in the bottom of the 3rd, a 3-run blast that sent jaws dropping and eyes popping as he bumped his team ahead to advance to the championship game vs. the Phillies (his 1st home run).

Wed. May 21
Harris Girocco (Majors Angels) - what can we say?
Billet snatched this kid ‘fore the Dodgers,
He can pump it out beyond Maris,
A big home run hitter like Roger,
‘cepting now twas the power of Harris.
He punched his first out to left in the bottom of 1, no outs, 2 on and a count 1 and 1.
The second he secured in the lower of third, he advanced to the plate and signaled “HR” to his base mate, hit a 1 out, 2-2 pitch to left with 1 on, but his day was not done…
The third of the day, was hammered away, 2 outs, 1-2 with 2 on, ending play. Congratulations to Harris Girroco who hit a slice so nice, he did it THRICE, with his 3rd of the day out to left for a walk-off 3-run home run in the bottom of the 5th of Game 5 of the Majors playoffs vs the Dodgers (his 7th, 8th, and 9th home runs).

Daniel Martinez (Majors Angels) joined the home run fray with 1 out in the bottom of the 4th, when he drilled a 1-0 delivery for a solo shot into the Galpin Ford “bullseye”, sending the sign crashing to the ground, a ball hit so hard and travelling so fast that few - including his parents - actually saw the home run go out (his 1st home run).  Now that Daniel won “$100 off his next purchase,” he’s hounding his parents for a car.

Cameron “C. J.” Mulcahy (Majors Angels) dug serious ruts and firmed himself the box with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th, before hooking a solo shot to an over-burdened left field for a gutsy response to the 3rd base coach’s “home run” signal vs. the Dodgers (his 1st home run).  Nice call, Len.
Noah Delena (Majors Dodgers) laced a sumptuous 1-out fat one outta there for a 3-run monte in the top of the 2nd, displaying in his final LL career game that he too is a force to be reckoned with vs. the Angels (his 1st home run).
Jesse Cohen (Majors Dodgers) still with 1 out and immediately following his buddy’s shot in the top of the 2nd, haughtily ignored a 3-0 “take” sign from his frustrated coach to crush a ball to the apartments beyond left center, surpising alfresco diners on a balcony with the unanounced spherical visitor and interrupting their meal, in his final LL career game vs. the Angels (his 1st home run).
Nicolas Schmidt (AAA Cubs) opened Game 5 of the AAA playoffs with an exciting start to a tumultuous duel, hacking a 1-0 pitch deep to left-center for a solo home run vs. the Angels (his 1st home run).

Mon. May 19
Harris Girocco (Majors Angels) desparately tried to breach a see-saw playoff battle with a staggering 3-run home run  slammed out on a 1-0 count with 1 out in the top of the 6th to bring his team close vs. the Diamondbacks (his 5th home run).
Charlie Goldring (AAA Dodgers), dug in with 1 on and 1 out in the top of the 5th and refused to use his 1-2 step edge as a lefty slugger, whipping his bat through on a 1-0 pitch to send a long ball over the left-center wall and tally-up 2 runs vs. the Phillies. (his 1st home run).

Sun. May 18
Jarrett Weiss (Majors Yankees) demonstrated remarkable strength, golfing a low, outside 2-0 pitch with 1 out and 2 on in the bottom of the 4th, and sending an incredible gravity-defying shot slicing out to right beyond Belief - and Belief was in the stands of the adjacent softball field - vs. the twins. (his 3rd home run).  The Twins manager requested a bat inspection, and the 9-iron was allowed to be played.

Sat. May 17
Thomas Sprague (Majors Dodgers) came up with one man on base and sent a ball into orbit over the left field fence in the top of the 3rd vs. the Angels (his 3rd home run).
Michael Geirland (AAA Phillies) blew apart a game so close it was tied, walloping the first pitch he saw with 2 out and 1 on in the bottom of the 6th, sending the ball screaming out far to left for a walk-off, 2-run  home run vs. the Cubs. (his 1st home run).

Wed. May 14
David Adamayan
(Majors Twins) struck the first pitch sent his way, sending the ball hurtling straight to center where it struck the word “strikes” in the scoreboard, for a 3-run home run and maybe an out or so in the bottom of the 3rd.  David continued to hit for the cycle in this game vs. the Cubs (his 1st home run).

Mon. May 12
Harris Girocco (Majors Angels) left school early and arrived late for his game, was quickly inserted into the bottom of the lineup with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th, rushed to the plate and then slammed a 1-1 pitch for a 3-run shot out of the park to left in a gritty game vs. the Dodgers (his 4th home run).  The kid only stopped once on his trip around the bases - to put on his cleats.
Gabriel Jacobs (Majors Angels) had a “blast from his past”, his past game that is, as he calmly and gently moved his bat toward the ball and guided an 0-2 pitch off his bat and over the fence for a walk-off 2 out, 2-run home run vs. the Dodgers (his 6th home run and 3rd home run in 2 games).

Sat. May 10
Gabriel Jacobs (Majors Angels) can get anything he wants at SOLL after he walked right up to his place at bat, and sent a pitch to the railroad tracks vs. the Twins (his 5th home run).  Yes, we are repeating ourselves - just as Gabe did.  A solo drive to center to lead off the top of the 2nd, and another solo drive to center to lead off the top of the 5th.  Manager Len Billet has filed a petition with the League to permit Gabriel to lead off every inning for the Angels.
Gabriel Jacobs (Majors Angels) can get anything he wants at SOLL after he walked right up to his place at bat, and sent a pitch to the railroad tracks vs. the Twins (his 4th home run).
Grant Billet (Majors Angels) got his chance to shine brightly in the top of the 6th, with 1 down and the bases fuller than the seats with tweens at a Hannah Montana concert, uncorking a long one for a grand slam vs. the Twins (his 6th home run).
Harris Girocco (Majors Angels), immediately following his slammin’ teammate, finished off the Angels slug-fest with a cloud of dust and hearty lining of silver, sending a ball for a wild home run ride, again, and enduring a lonely trot around the bases vs. the Twins (his 3rd home run).
Jarrett Weiss (Majors Yankees) fought to a 2-2 count with 2 on and 1 out in the bottom of the 1st, then left the laundry fluttering in the wind when he strung out a clothesline shot to left for a 3-run home run vs. the Cubs (his 2nd home run).
Evan Connell (Majors Diamondbacks) tied it up with 1 out and 2 on in the top of the 3rd, using his mystical, magical powers and stealthy swing to pound a ball into the cheap seats in left vs. the Doders (his 1st home run).
Riley Sullivan (Majors Diamondbacks) advanced to the plate in the top of the 3rd with 2 outs and 1 on, fought to a full count, then hooked a big one to right that he cleaned and fried for dinner vs. the Doders (his 2nd home run).
Jack Cotti (Majors Diamondbacks) came up with 2 on and 1 out in the top of the 6th, and with brute force struck a blow with a “Jack Attack” vs. the Doders (his 1st home run).  Interviewed following the game on an unwatched local cable station, smiling manager Joe Cotti proclaimed this the “happiest day of my life, except the day they had all you can eat free hot dogs and Slurpees at 7-Eleven.”

Tue. May 6
Larkin Miller (Majors Angels) lead of the top of the 3rd sticking the first pitch high in the sky, startling federal air traffic controllers who quickly re-routed craft traveling in the same air space vs. the Diamondbacks (his 2nd home run).

Thomas Sprague (Majors Dodgers) launched a 2 run blast over the right field fence in the top of the 3rd vs. the Cubs (his 2nd home run).
Chris Lung (AAA Yankees) lead off the game with a tremendous pounding of a 3-2 offering, sending the ball out of the park over the left field fence and flying higher into the sky seemingly propelled by the strong winds generated by fans wildly applauding the home run feat (his 1st home run).

Sat. May 3
Peyton “Hollywood” Long (Majors Cubs), performing like P Diddy in Can't Nobody Hold Me Down, rapped out a 1-down, 0-1 pitch for a big solo hummer in the top of the 4th vs. the Angels. (his 7th home run).
Grant Billet (Majors Angels) unshouldered his bat and electrified onlookers, sending a pitch sailing to right-center and out of the ball park, with 1 on and 2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd vs. the Cubs (his 4th home run).
Matt “Shoe” Shuman (Majors Twins) uncorked a big 3-run home run to left, facing an 0-1 pitch with 2 outs in the top of the 1st vs. the Diamondbacks (his 2nd home run).  This home run information was transmitted live via satellite phone hookup and we could hear the cheers as well as Shoe hoofing it home.
Jack McRitchie (T-Ball Yankees) showed he is an up and coming force of reckoning, slugging a ball over the wall in center that was just hung out there and begging to be crushed vs. the Dodgers for his 1st home run and the 1st Home Run in the T-Ball Division for the 2008 season.  Rob McRitchie reports the family is looking for a school anxious to add Jack to their roster and offering a scholarship for next year.

Jacob “J. J.” Goldner (AA Angels) excitedly raced around the bases following a terrific home run hit to left-center, off an 0-2, 1 out pitch in the top of the 6th, doubling his season home run output in one mighty swing of the bat vs. the Red Sox.  His family proudly cheered loudly from the stands, shouting “D-N-A, D-N-A!”

Tue. Apr. 29
Jake Hirabayashi (Majors Twins) cautiously approached the plate but was a monster at bat, attacking the opposing hurler’s 2-out offering for a 3-run homer vs. the Cubs (his 1st home run).
Sam Hummel (Majors Twins) placed a prodigious 2-run home run so far beyond the field with no outs and 1 on in the bottom of the 1st, the coaches hired a town car to recover the souvenir ball vs. the Cubs (his 2nd home run).  Parents were seen contributing for a fuel surcharge.
Jon Epstein (Minors Yankees) with one out and the bases loaded  vs. the Cubs... blasted a grand slam home run that sailed over the left field fence....This was the First Home Run hit out of the Minors field this season, truly a great achievement. (his 1st home run).

Mon. Apr. 28
Jesse Ehrlich (Majors Yankees), who is swift on the base baths but sometimes wants a slower trip to see the sights, fought off a 1-2, 1-out count in the top of the 1st, and with one vicious swing began a trot around the field as an inspired fan exclaimed “there it is, there it goes, wow!” (his 2nd home run).

Sat. Apr. 26
Eddie “The Eagle” Muhl (Majors Dodgers) was all over a 2-out, 0-1 pitch like barbeque sauce slathered on a snack bar tri-tip sandwich, and trotted out a deep 2-run round-tripper to right vs. the Diamondbacks (his 7th home run).
Gabriel Jacobs (Majors Angels), leading of the bottom of the 5th, pounced on a pitch like his dear cat fluffy on a piece of grilled salmon at dinnertime, for a solo home run vs. the Twins in a seesaw extra inning battle.  The ball reportedly accelerated out of sight almost instantly, leaving witnesses to track the hit by observing the vapor trail (his 3rd home run).
Sam Hummel (Majors Twins) took the house lights down with his new creation - the Hummel Pummel - a solo slam of an 0-2 pitch to center vs. the Angels, that he strongly argues was not the result of dedication to practice, strength, guts and determination, but primarily the result of wonderful low-priced coaching (his 1st home run).
Peyton “Hollywood” Long (Majors Cubs), with 1 out and none on in the bottom of the 6th, swung mightily, leading his bat to sing out a chorus of “so long, it’s been so good to know you” to a 2-2 pitch to left vs. the Yankees (his 6th home run).

Wed. Apr. 23
Jesse Ehrlich (Majors Yankees) ignited the evening families settling into their seats when he erupted on his first pitch with no out in the top of the 1st to light the sky with a 3-run home run to left vs. the Twins. (his 1st home run).  Before the batted ball was beyond the pitcher’s mound, one fan exclaimed “oh my, that’s gone, that’s gone!”

Tue. Apr. 22
Gabriel Jacobs (Majors Angels), facing 1 out and his team down in the top of the 6th, with desperation, inspiration and perspiration, swung with devastation at a 3-0 pitch that he propelled high and hard into the scoreboard in center for a solo round-tripper vs. the Diamondbacks (his 2nd home run).
