WELCOME! -- This is the Sheldon High School Girls Basketball website. The site provides information about the current Sheldon basketball program as well as its history. Announcements about basketball-related activities and opportunities will be updated regularly.
SHELDON HOOP NOTES:
Summer program potluck scheduled for July 17 -- A summer ball program-wide potluck and barbeque for players and parents to celebrate a successful summer season is scheduled for Friday, July 17, at Coach Roth's home at 6:00 pm. For information about what to bring to the potluck, contact one of the following persons: Varsity players - Diane Hauser; JV1 players- Dawna Willoughby-Roberts; and JV2 players - Sue Rouleau. Non-alcoholic beverages and table service will be provided by the basketball program.
State Tournament moves to the Rose Garden -- In an announcement by the OSAA, a decision to move the 6A girls basketball state tournament from the University of Portland's Chiles Center to the Rose Garden will take place next year. The Chiles Center has hosted the girls state tournament since 1983. The final eight boys and girls 6A teams will play at the Rose Garden. The 5A girls tournament moves to Eugene and will be paired with the 5A boys at Mac Court next year.
Irish win two to end summer ball season -- In the final games of the summer season, Sheldon blasted Marist and defeated Cottage Grove at Lane Community College June 29. The games officially ended Sheldon's summer schedule.
Irish drop final U of Portland games -- Sheldon lost to Penninsula (WA) 47-45 in the semifinals of the University of Portland tournament at the Chiles Center June 28 and then lost to Jefferson of Portland in the third place game 53-47. The Irish came from eight down to tie the game with two minutes left before Jefferson finished the game with six straight points.
The Sheldon JV's went 4-1 at the South Albany Rebel Classic, dropping the tournament championship to West Linn June 28. The Irish defeated Colony (AK),Lebanon and South Albany twice to qualify for the final game. The tournament was its last action of the summer season.
2009 Irish Girls Basketball Camp ends -- The 25th annual Irish Girls Basketball Camp ended its 2009 run on June 25 with two daily sessions that included next year's 2nd-6th grades in the morning session and 7th-9th grades in the afternoon. A total of 81 participants took part in the three-day camp. Afternoon sessions included instruction by Marcus Green of the Premier Basketball Academy. Current and former Sheldon varsity players helped with camp instruction, along with the Sheldon girls basketball staff.
Irish complete undefeated run at Chico State -- Sheldon's three summer teams participating in the 48-team Chico State University tournament finished their three-day run with an impressive 27-0 overall record. The Irish varsity and two JV teams each went 9-0 over three days of action that concluded June 21 in Chico, CA. The varsity whipped Franklin of San Francisco and host Chico HS after earlier defeating Emeryville, Los Banos, Drake, West Valley, Calaveras, Paradise, and Corning. The JV1 and JV2 teams each ended their schedule with perfect records as each team won three games on June 21. The JV2 squad came from 10 points down to edge El Camino in their final game to keep its unblemished mark intact.
Sheldon goes 2-2 in Prairie tournament -- The Sheldon varsity played four games in the Prairie, WA Summer tournament June 12-14. The Irish opened the tournament with a loss to Skyview, WA in a game that was decided in the final seconds after Sheldon led most of the game. In two other games against Washington schools on Saturday, Sheldon defeated Union and crushed LaCenter. In Sunday action, the Irish lost to Jefferson of Portland to end the tournament.
Irish JV's win 7 of 8 games in West Salem Titan Throwdown -- The Sheldon JV1 team won four games in two days at West Salem and the JV2 team won three as both teams advanced through pool play and semi-final action undefeated. Instead of playing each other for the tourney championship, the Irish flipped semifinal opponents and the JV1 team beat Lebanon while the JV2 team lost to West Salem.
