This is the Sheldon High School Girls Basketball website. The site provides information about the current Sheldon basketball program, as well as its history.  Announcements about basketball-related activities and opportunities will be updated regularly.

Rodrigues Named 6A All-State
 
Congratulations to Sheldon's Hannah Rodrigues for being named to the Oregonian's 6A All-State basketball team.  Hannah, the 6A Special District 1 player of the year, was selected by a statewide vote of 6A High school coaches.

Summer Basketball Informational meeting

 There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 11th at 7:00p in the Sheldon Lecture Hall for anyone interested in playing summer basketball in June.

Summer basketball is a key component to player development.  Sheldon offers summer basketball opportunities to all Sheldon area players currently in the 8th thru 11th grade.  Anyone interested should plan to attend.

2012 Season Comes to an End

The 2012 Sheldon basketball season concluded with a dessert and award ceremony last Thursday night at Sheldon HS.  All three teams were recognized for their efforts this season.  Thank you to all who made this season successful!

Irish Rout Celtics in 1st Round State Playoffs
Sheldon defeated McNary HS of Salem  on Tuesday 79-61 in the 1st round of the OSAA State Playoffs.  McNary had an early 10-9 lead when Sheldon's Ashley Land scored 6 consecutive points on a free-throw, a three-pointer, and a layup to give the Irish the lead before Danielle Langston added a rebound basket.  Hannah Rodrigues capped the 13-3 run with a three-pointer and a steal and layup to put Sheldon ahead 22-13 at the end of the first quarter.  Sheldon led 42-22 at the half and were never challenged after that.
Hannah Rodrigues led all scorers with 26 points while collecting 7 rebounds and Kristin Clark recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points and gathering 10 rebounds.  Ashley Land scored 11 points, Leah Nicklason added 10 points, and  Senior Kyrsha Witherspoon dished out 7 assists.
Sheldon (20-5) will travel to Portland on Friday, March 2nd, to take on #2 ranked Central Catholic (23-1) in the round of 16.  The winner will move on to the Final Eight at the Rose Garden in Portland.  Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.

6A Special District 1 All Conference Team
Several Sheldon players have been recognized by 6A Special District coaches by being selected to the 2011 all conference team. Sheldon finished the regular season atop the Special District with a record of 7-0 ahead of Lincoln, South Eugene, Redmond, Thurston, and Grant.

2012 Senior Night!
The 2012 Sheldon Seniors will be recognized in a ceremony prior to tonights final regular season home game vs. Churchill.
Senior players Danielle Langston, Kristin Clark, and Kyrsha Witherspoon will be recognized, as well as team manager Kate Trahan.
The ceremony will be held directly before tip off of tonights game.  The game will begin at 6:00p.

Sheldon Sweeps SE - Claims 6A Special District Title
Sheldon completed a season sweep over cross-town rival South Eugene on Tuesday with a 59-50 win at South Eugene.  The victory puts Sheldon's league record at 7-0 (18-5 overall) in the OSAA Special District, securing the leagues number one seed for the state playoffs and the district championship.
Hannah Rodrigues scored 26 points while converting on 9 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.  She also led Sheldon in rebounding with 8 boards.  Ashley Land connected on 5 three point shots to add 17 points for the Irish.
Sheldon will take on Churchill tonight, February 16th, at Sheldon in their final game of the regular season.  Game will begin at 6:00p.

Sheldon big over Grant
Sheldon defeated Grant HS of Portland on Friday 72-32.  Kristin Clark led all scorers with 18 points while Ashley Land and Hannah Rodrigues added 14 and 12 points.
The 6A Special District win puts Sheldon's league record at 6-0 with one game remaining at cross town rival South Eugene on Tuesday, February 14th.  Tip off is at 7p.

Sheldon Doubleheader
The Sheldon girls and boys will play together on the same night this Friday, February 10 at Sheldon HS v. Special District 1 opponent Grant.  The JV teams will begin play at 4:00p, the Varsity girls begin at 5:30p, and the Varsity boys tip off at 7:00p.
The boys team (16-5, 4-1) is currently tied with Grant for second place in Special District 1 and the girls team (16-5, 5-0) can clinch the conference title with a win on Friday night.

Irish fall to Millers

Springfield defeated Sheldon on Tuesday night 54-35.

Hannah Rodrigues and Kristin Clark led the Irish with 10 and 7 points. 

 


Sheldon Tops North Eugene
After a sluggish start, Sheldon ran away from the Highlanders on Saturday night with a 60-36 victory in a MWL Hybrid game.  Hannah Rodrigues and Ashley Land led the Irish in scoring with 17 points each and Kristin Clark added 15 points.  Senior Kyrsha Witherspoon handed out 5 assists and Rodrigues had 5 steals.  Leah Nicklason led Sheldon in Rebounding with 9 boards.
The win puts Sheldon's overall record at 16-4 and at 10-3 in Midwestern Hybrid play.  The Irish currently sit alone in first place atop the OSAA 6A Special District 1; 2 games ahead of Lincoln.  Sheldon can wrap up the Special District title with a win over Grant HS this Friday at Sheldon HS.  Tip off for this game is 5:30p.
Sheldon travels to Springfield HS on Tuesday to take on the #1 ranked (5A) Springfield Millers.  JV and JV2 will tip off at 5:30p. and the Varsity game will begin at 7:00p.

 Sheldon Sweeps Marist

Sheldon completed a season sweep over Marist with an 42-38 victory in overtime.

The Irish converted all 6 of their free throw attempts in overtime to secure the win. Sheldon was led in scoring by Hannah Rodrigues with 12 points and Kristin Clark with 10 points.  Kyrsha Witherspoon returned to floor after missing three games with an ankle injury to add 8 points for the Irish.

Rodrigues had an overall stellar game adding 4 rebounds, 4 blocked shots, and 5 steals.

The win puts Sheldon's overall record at 15-4 and at 9-3 in the MWL Hybrid league.  The Irish remain in first place at 5-0 in 6A Special District One.

Sheldon will take on North Eugene this Saturday at 7:00p.  JV and JV2 will tip off at 4:00p & 5:30p.

 


 Sheldon Sweeps Thurston

Sheldon completed a season sweep over Thurston on Tuesday evening with a 59-35 victory at Thurston.   

Kristin Clark led all scorer with 17 points.  Hannah Rodrigues and Ashley Land added 8 points apiece for the Irish.

The win pushes Sheldon's record to 14-4 on the season and 5-0 in 6A Special District 1.  The Irish will take on Marist HS this Thursday at 7:00p at Sheldon.  JV will tip off at 5:30p.

 


Irish fall to Wolverines

Willamette defeated Sheldon on Thursday night 46-38.

Hannah Rodrigues and Kristin Clark led the Irish with 15 and 14 points. 

 


Sheldon Sweeps Marshfield
Sheldon completed a season sweep over Marshfield on Tuesday evening with a 51-31 victory in Coos Bay.
Hannah Rodrigues led the Irish with 21 points and 9 rebounds while Kristin Clark contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds.  Leah Nicklason scored 10 points.
The win pushes Sheldon's record to 13-3 on the season and into a tie for second place with Willamette in the 5A/6A Hybrid League at 7-2.  Sheldon is currenlty in 1st place atop the 6A Special District.
The Irish will take on Willamette on Thursday at Sheldon HS.  JV2 and JV start at 4:00p & 5:30p.  Varsity tipoff is at 7:00p.

 


Sheldon Over South Eugene

9th ranked Sheldon (11-3, 4-0) took sole possession of first place in 6A Special District 1 with a 49-39 victory over South Eugene on Tuesday, their second consecutive league win without injured starter Tiwanna Hamilton.

Seniors Kyrsha Witherspoon and Kristin Clark led the Irish.  Witherspoon scored 14 points, recorded 7 steals and dished out 4 assists. Clark scored 13 points and pulled 7 rebounds.  Ashley Land and Hannah Rodrigues added 8 points apiece for Sheldon.

Leah Nicklason led Sheldon in rebounding with 10, her second straight double-digit rebounding performance.  Rodrigues added 6 rebounds.

The win puts the Irish a game and a half ahead of second place South Eugene in the 6A District 1 standings.  Sheldon travels to Churchill on Friday to take on the Lancers in a MWL Hybrid league matchup.  Tip off is at 6:00p

 


Sheldon Takes Control of 6A Special District 1

Sheldon defeated Lincoln HS of Portland on Saturday 58-55 to take a one game lead in 6A Special District One.

The Irish were led in scoring by Ashley Land with 22 points.  Leah Nicklason and Hannah Rodrigues added 16 and 15 points.

Nicklason pulled 10 rebounds to go with her 16 points.  Rodrigues added 7 rebounds, and Kyrsha Witherspoon contributed to Sheldons impressive team rebounding with 7, while leading the team in assists with 4. 

Sheldon (10-3, 3-0) currently holds a half game lead in the Conference over South Eugene (6-7, 2-0).  The two will meet Tuesday, January 17th at Sheldon for sole possession of first place.  

 

Millers Over Irish

Mercedes Russell scored a game high 24 points in the 47-30 victory.

Hannah Rodrigues led the Irish in scoring with 8 points followed by Ashley Land with 6 points and Leah Nicklason with 5 points.

 


Irish Cruise Over Highlanders

9th ranked Sheldon (9-2) traveled to North Eugene Friday night and defeated the Highlanders 77-25.  The Irish led 32-15 at the half and cruised the rest of the way for their 4th consecutive win and 3rd consecutive on the road. 

Ashley Land led Sheldon in scoring with 22 points while going 4 of 5 from three point range.  Kristin Clark came off the bench to score 14 points and Tiwanna Hamilton added 11.

Sheldon outrebounded the Highlanders considerably, led by Leah Nicklason with 7 rebounds.  Freshman Sarah Hall, Clark, and Hamilton each added 5 rebounds apiece.

Kyrsha Witherspoon kept the Irish offense rolling dishing out 7 assists.

Sheldon returns home Thursday, January 12th to take on #1 ranked Springfield. JV2 and JV games begin at 4:00 and 5:30.  Varsity tip off is at 7:00p.

JV Win Big Over North

The Sheldon JV defeated North Eugene on Tuesday 47-13.  Haileigh Krause led the Irish in scoring with 10 points while Aurionna Kirton and Abby King scored 9 points each.
The win pushes the Irish to 7-3 on the season.  Springfield is up next for Sheldon.  JV game begins at 5:30.traveled to North Eugene this evening to take on the 5-5 Highlanders.  The JV2 and JV will begin at 5:30p.

Irish Win In Redmond
Following their tough road victory vs. Marist on Friday night, Sheldon traveled to Redmond on Saturday to take on the Panthers in a 6A Special District 1 matchup.
The Irish jumped out to 17 point lead at the half and never trailed.  Leah Nicklason and Hannah Rodrigues led Sheldon in scoring with 15 and 14 points while Tiwanna Hamilton and Ashley Land added 10 points apiece.
Sheldon continued their aggressive team rebounding led by Hamilton with 7 rebounds, Rodrigues with 6, and Nicklason with 5.  Kyshra Witherspoon and Hamilton led the Irish in steals 4 and 3.
The win leaves Sheldon at 8-2 oveall and in a first place tie with South Eugene atop the league standings at 2-0.
Sheldon will play their 3rd consecutive road game on Tuesday, January 10th versus the Highlanders at 7:00p at NE High School.

Irish outlast Spartans On The Road

Hannah Rodrigues made two free throws with 5.5 seconds left in regulation to lead Sheldon to a 2 point victory over Marist Friday night at Marist HS.
The Irish were led in scoring by Ashley Land with 16 points and Rodrigues with 10 points, while Leah Nicklason and Tiwanna Hamilton added 7 points and 6 points.
Having a tough shooting night, The Irish kept the game close by controlling the boards. Nicklason and Hamilton recorded 8 rebound apiece and Rodrigues added 7 caroms.  Hamilton again led the Irish defense recording 6 steals. 
The win puts the Irish record at 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the MWL Hybrid league.  Sheldon travels to Redmond on Saturday to take on the Panthers in a 6A Special District 1 matchup.

Sheldon jumped out to an early 19-0 lead and never looked back in a 71-33 victory over Thurston Tuesday night at Sheldon HS.
The Irish were led in scoring by Hannah Rodrigues and Ashley Land who scored 24 and 17 points.  Tiwanna Hamilton and Kristin Clark added 8 points apiece, and Leah Nicklason scored 6.
Sheldon was led in rebounding by Tiwanna Hamilton with 8 rebounds and Rodrigues with 6.  The win pushes the Irish overall record to 6-2, 2-1 in the MWL Hybrid, and 1-0 in 6A Special District 1.  The Irish travel to Marist this Friday.  JV2 and JV start at 4:00p and 5:30p. - Varsity tipoff is at 7:00p

Mariah Moore scored 12 points and Aurionna Kirton and Abby King scored 11 points each as Sheldon defeated Thurston 47-23 Tuesday night at Sheldon HS. The win puts the Irish at 2-1 in MWL play.  The JV's will take on Marist on the road Friday at 5:30p at Marist HS
