Another CCS With Memories To Treasure

The 2008 CCS Championships did not have the races the Irish were wishing for, but the whole CCS experience included everything anyone could have hoped for.

"Back in June, it looked like we would be just another team at CCS.  I wasn't even sure the Boys would qualify," said SHCP Head Coach Andy Chan.  "But instead we got to have a great CCS.  The week leading up to the race was fun as usual, as was the team bonding in the hotel the night before the race.  I consider it a privilege that I was nervous about the races the morning of the race.  Not every coach gets that and I have gotten that for 11 years in a row."

Although no one qualified for the State Meet, meaning this will be Coach Chan's first year not going to the State Meet, the season was a success.  "I knew the streak was going to end someday and I'm glad it ended this way - we went down fighting.  Both the boys and girls were contenders to make it to State and we had individuals in both races that had a chance to qualify on their own.  We took out best shot and I couldn't be prouder."

After the meet, Chan thanked the seniors for the roles they have played in making SHCP cross country program a success.  And he challenged the underclassmen to be back at CCS next year and to start a new streak of qualifying Irish runners to the State Meet.

45/45 at WCAL Finals

There were 31 PR's and the boys and girls varsity teams both qualified for CCS but the number that stood out at WCAL Finals on November 5 at Crystal Springs was 45.  That's how many people were on the cross country team this year.  That's how many people went to the starting line.  And that's how many people crossed the finish line.  "It was a great meet for us," said SHCP Coach Andy Chan, "I'm proud that we got 100% of our team able to compete at the league finals meet."
