Check Our Local Weather Radar Here

When weather is bad here during the afternoon of an Away meet, do not assume the meet is cancelled at the host club. Experience has shown us many times that the weather can be totally opposite ours at the Akron-area clubs, and while one site might have to cancel, another is having perfect conditions. Rule of thumb is "Go to the meet" unless coaches advise otherwise.

Get Your Team Swim Cap at the Pool Office

All girls (and boys, too) should purchase their Shady Hollow team swim cap at the pool office, charged to your club account. Both latex and silicone caps are available with our team logo. Please do not wear other caps in meets--team uniformity and identity are important!

Wednesday, June 15
Check Your Swimmer Mailbox at the Pool

An important link between coaches, swimmers and parents is our swimmer mailbox system at the pool office. There are 2 large file boxes containing hanging folders for each family. Coaches and parent volunteers will distribute many communications through this system each week, and we need you to check your mailbox often. If the mailboxes are not in view outside the pool office door, please ask lifeguards to access your mail.

Swim Team Swimmers Improve Skills Through Private Lessons

Swim team kids' skills and fitness improve greatly with each day and week and month of team practice. However, team practice cannot take the place of private swim lessons focused on the individual swimmer. Even veteran and Olympic swimming competitors never outgrow the need for individual instruction and troubleshooting by a skilled coach.

As we adults see in golf, or tennis or other sports, practicing bad habits (technique flaws) can ingrain habits that are not only hard to break, but can cause frustration, decreased performance, and worse yet, injury. Swimming fast (efficiently) is very dependent on proper stroke techniques, in all four competitive strokes. For any coach, it is difficult during team practice (often having 50-60 swimmers in the water at once), to identify and spend a good amount of time on any individual's mistakes or difficulties.

Private lessons are the best way to identify individuals' problem areas, and to develop proper technique and fix stroke flaws.

All our team coaches are qualified and availble for private instruction. We recommend it strongly, and Head Coach Alice Shoemaker can help you arrange private lessons for your child. See her after practice, or contact her by phone at the Pool Office: 330-833-0645.
