Big Bamboo Shanghai Shooters AFC: Welcome

Big Bamboo Shanghai Shooters Amateur Football Club 2012-2013: Shanghai's Number 1 Amateur Football Team

Welcome to the homepage of the Big Bamboo Shanghai Shooters Amateur Football Club- Shanghai's leading amateur expat football (soccer) team, current SIFL champions, and "Asian Power House" (as quoted in the May 18th 2006 edition of Hong Kong BC Magazine)

The Big Bamboo Shanghai Shooters Football Club compete in China's top amateur expat league- the Shanghai International Football League (SIFL)- and since our formation in 1998 have become the most successful football team in the league's history with 8 SIFL Premier League titles, 9 SIFL Cups, 3 Hebiguichi League Cup. We are also the only team to win the SIFL Treble in one season- a feat we have done 3 times.
Our success lies in our ability to attract an eclectic mix of Shanghai's top footballers around a team culture of football and fun on and off the field. Historically most players came from the UK but nowadays, like the Premier League, we have expanded with the times to maintain our roots but form a truly global team in which in 2012 we have on our books the best footballers in Shanghai from the UK, Denmark, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, USA, New Zealand, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Holland, Japan, Belgium, Guatemala, Ireland, France, Korea, the Basque, and even an ex China national team player.

This diversity of our player pool as also translated to success on the international football tournament front where our regular team tours have seen us win the tough Manila Nomad's 6's on 4 occasions in 2002, 2004, 2007 & 2009, the Bangkok 11's in 2004, the Phuket 7's in 2004 and finally the Shanghai International 7's in 2004 & 2006.

Other highlights have been in 2000 when we played against the Mongolian National Team in Ulan Bator as part of their World Cup warm up in front of 4,500 spectators.
In 2005, 2006 and 2008 we were invited to the Phillips Lighting Hong Kong 7s. At this tournament we have achieved amazing results, such as, 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and a 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven. We also played against Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers at this tournament and lost in two tight matches.

The Shooters latest Hong Kong 7's adventure seen them go further in the tournament than previous attempts, reaching the semi-final of the plate. However, although we played very well in both our Saturday and Sunday opening games, undeservedly losing to Glasgow Rangers 0-1 on the Saturday, and beating HK Pro side Bulova Rangers on the Sunday, lack of fitness let us down in the remaining games where we lost to HK Pro side Happy Valley, HK All Star side Eagles FC and English Semi-Pro side Eastleigh FC.

Shooters vs. PSV
The Shanghai Shooters have returned from the 2006 Philips Lighting Hong Kong 7's with another good result against Pro opposition. Last year we managed to draw 1-1 with Aston Villa, this year we held PSV Eindhoven 0-0. We also drew 0-0 with Hong Kong 2nd Division Champions, HKFC. In our other match against Glasgow Celtic, we lost 0-2, even though we were the better side in the first half. The lads were magnificent, and I am proud of them all. Let's hope we have done enough to get an invite back next year.
