Shanghai Shooters AFC

shooters 2007
After all these years of Lions running away to Pudong to escape Shooters domination, an under strength Shooters team sent them packing back to Jin Qiao cow field, with a 7-3 win. Goals from Danny 3, Zippy, Banksy, Amer and Mo.....

Welcome to the homepage of the Shanghai Shooters Amateur Football Club, the Asian Power House (as quoted in 18th May 2006 edition of Hong Kong's bc Magazine). We are an Expat drinking team with a football problem. Most of our alcoholics are from the UK, but we do have alcoholics from USA, New Zealand, Denmark, Japan, France, Germany, Korea and Spain. We were formed in 1998, and already we have proven to be the most successful team in Shanghai, and probably even the best in Asia. We have won the SIFL Premier League 7 times in the last 8 years, along with 7 SIFL Cup wins and 3 Hebiguchi League Cup victories. On the international front, we have won the tough Manila Nomad's 6's on 3 occasions in 2002, 2004 & 2007, the Bangkok 11's in 2004, the Phuket 7's in 2004 and finally the Shanghai International 7's in 2004 & 2006. Other highlights have been in 2000 when we played against the Mongolian National Team in Ulan Bator as part of their World Cup warm up in front of 4,500 spectators. In 2005, 2006 and 2008 we were invited to the Phillips Lighting Hong Kong 7s. At this tournament we achieved a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and a 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven. We also played against Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers at this tournament and lost in two tight matches.

Shooters Reach Plate Semi-Final in Hong Kong

vs rangers 2008
Rangers team including Andrew Shinnie, Paul Emslie and Alan Lowing.
The Shooters latest Hong Kong 7's adventure seen them go further in the tournament than previous attempts, reaching the semi-final of the plate. However, although we played very well in both our Saturday and Sunday opening games, undeservedly losing to Glasgow Rangers 0-1 on the Saturday, and beating HK Pro side Bulova Rangers on the Sunday, lack of fitness let us down in the remaining games where we lost to HK Pro side Happy Valley, HK All Star side Eagles FC and English Semi-Pro side Eastleigh FC.

Shooters Hold PSV Eindhoven in Hong Kong

PSV2
Shooters vs. PSV
The Shanghai Shooters have returned from the 2006 Philips Lighting Hong Kong 7's with another good result against Pro opposition. Last year we managed to draw 1-1 with Aston Villa, this year we held PSV Eindhoven 0-0. We also drew 0-0 with Hong Kong 2nd Division Champions, HKFC. In our other match against Glasgow Celtic, we lost 0-2, even though we were the better side in the first half. The lads were magnificent, and I am proud of them all. Let's hope we have done enough to get an invite back next year.

The Shooters also played Glasgow Rangers and lost 0-1 to a dodgy penalty decision. The Rangers team included 1st team players Chris Burke, Charlie Adam and Steven Smith.

AN exiled Ayrshireman living in China has secured the first ever race sponsorship offered on eBay by a British racecourse.
Ayr United fan John Jofre paid £2,550 to sponsor the handicap hurdle race immediately after the Scottish Grand National at Ayr.
There were 29 bids in a lively auction but John, originally from Dreghorn, finally won the day.
And he has named the race after the football team he formed in Shanghai more than six years ago.
It will be called the Shanghai Shooters FC Handicap Hurdle.
John is the son of former SNP MSP Kay Ullrich and has lived in Shanghai for 12 years and is Asia Managing Director of packaging company Portola.
He said: "I'm just delighted to have won the auction. I started up the Shooters in 1998 as a fun social team but with more and more expats arriving in Shanghai over the years, the quality of the team increased greatly.
In 2004 we won everything in our own domestic league and also won four international tournaments out of four in Manila, Phuket, Bangkok and China.
Due to this we have been invited to take part in the Hong Kong 7s in May when we will be up against Man Utd, Arsenal, Aston Villa, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Celtic and pro teams from Japan and Hong Kong.
I decided to try and get our little team some profile before this huge tournament and when I seen this opportunity to sponsor a horse race I thought what a cool idea".

Snooker Stars Hit the Home of the Shooters

Snooker Stars
Recently, during the China Open Snooker tournament, the world's top stars visited the home of the Shooters, The Longbar. Each night, stars, such as, John Higgins, Ken Docherty, Steve Davis, Alan McManus, Tony Drago, and John Parrot, came to the Longbar to meet the world famous Shanghai Shooters. We, of course, welcomed them with open arms, and took their money in the infamous Longbar "Pick the last goalscorer" competition which goes on during the live Premiership games that are exclusively shown in the Longbar.
In the above picture, Parrot, McManus and Campbell are entertained by Jofre and Bell.

Rush is a Shooter!!!

The photograph show's that Ian Rush, the Liverpool legend, is a Shanghai Shooter. Ian Rush was quoted as saying "This is the proudest day of my career to wear this shirt" Yes, Ian you are a lucky man, but sorry, we do not do elocution lessons!!!
