Softball Association Meeting Minutes – August 19, 2007

 

Meeting held to items to be placed on agenda for Wednesday nights parent meeting and to discuss positions up for elections.

 

1.                  Election Positions open are:

-Vice President – currently held by Les Ginther

-Secretary – currently held by Jolene Annen

-Tournament director  - currently held by Darin Holmgren

   

2.                  Equipment and improvement needs for next year:

-Pitching machines

-Varsity batting cage nets

-Bleachers for west field – Canterbury Park may make a donation for this

-Scoreboard for west field

 

3.                  Motion, made, seconded and passed to add a scoreboard to the west field – cost not to exceed $6,400. 

-This would be completed sometime this fall

 

4.                  Discussed changing website name to shakopeegirlssoftball.com for a one time fee of $200 – Sam Mayberry will take care of this.

August 22, 2007 Parents Meeting Minutes

Softball Association Meeting Minutes – August 19, 2007

Year End Parent’s Meeting Year end wrap up 

1.       300 Girls participated in softball association this summer and fall

 

2        Profits from 2006 used for the following:

-3rd field at the high school – West Field

 

3.   Profits from 2007 will be used for the following:

 

-Scoreboard on west field – approximately $6,400

-North field at high school – get that back into use

-2 new fields at new high school

 

4.      In-House Program

 

-7th and 8th grade -C(3)V – Chaska, Carver, Chanhassen, and Victoria

-Eden Prairie also had 9th –12th teams

-This program worked out very well – the above communities traveled to compete with each other

-May expand to 5th and 6th grade level next year and 3rd and 4th following year

 

-Machine pitch for Midgets (4th, 5th and 6th graders) went well

-Need to work on developing pitchers for the in-house program

 

5.      Travel Program - Highlights

-10 U Black – 3rd place Northern Nationals

-12U Black – 2nd at State Tournament and 7th at AFA Northern Nationals

-12U White – 2nd at State Tournament

-14U Black – 15th at Elgin, Illinois Nationals

-6 teams qualified for Nationals out of 8 teams possible

 

6.       Fall Ball

-1 - 10U team

-2 – 12U teams

-1 – 14U team

 

7.      Communications

-Web address – own domain – going to be called shakopeegirlssoftball.com

-Informational and educational tool

-Way to let current and future members find out what is going on

 

            8.   Committees

                 -Help with in-house  (pictures – shirts, etc)

                 -Help on travel (evaluations, registrations, etc)

                 -Help with Father’s Day Tournament

                 -Help with winter and other clinics

 

9.  Registration – in-house and travel will be at the same time

-Need to get the word out earlier

 

10.      Development of Players and Pitchers

-         Use pitching machine at younger ages so the players learn how to field and so they are more attentive

-         Also need to develop pitchers

-         Winter Clinics for in-house and traveling

-         Coaching clinics

-         Coaching packets – coach mentors

-         Skill specific coaches to float/rove between teams for pitching and catching

-         In-house – coaching education, rule consistency

-         Send coaches to National Sports Clinics – held in metro area

 

     11.   Equipment Needs

                  -In-house needs more pitching machines to be stored at central location

                  -First aid kits - traveling

                  -Helmets with face masks and chin straps – in-house

 

12.      Fundraisers

-Year round fundraisers to subsidize national tournaments

-Sell merchandise through website, at Shakopee tournament, decals, etc.

-Bagging at Cub Foods – have to be 15 years old

 

13.      Father’s Day Tournament

-Major fundraiser

-Lots of work – but plenty of fun too

-Darin is not running again for tournament director

 

14.      Election Positions open are:

-Tournament director  - currently held by Darin Holmgren

 

15.      Election results:

-Les Ginther nominated Sam Mayberry for Vice President, 2nd and voted on.  Sam Mayberry is the new Vice President

 

-Bob Stark nominated Scott Wilts for Secretary, 2nd and voted on.

Scott Wilts is the new Secretary

 

-Communications Director position open as Sam Mayberry is now Vice President

-Darin Holmgren nominated John Schewe,  2nd and voted on.

John Schewe is the new Communications Director for 1 year to fill the 2nd half of Sam’s term

 

-Tournament Coordinator – no nominations – position to remain open at this time.
