7:28 am JV Girls Race 54 - SF 12TH - JOANNA 21:55 leads the JV's
7:49 am Varsity Girls Race 57 - SF 7TH - NICOLE WINS, 18:22... the fastest SF time ever at Mt SAC and
the fastest time of any non-sweepstakes Varsity Girl at 2008 Mt. SAC.
MAUREEN scores with a great 10th place 19:30, Macy next at 21:06, Jamie and Moriah in Top 5
11:08 am Frosh Girls Race 74 - SF 1ST - APRIL WINS 20:05, LEAH 3RD
12:08 am Soph Girls Race 81 - SF 9TH - ELLA leads Sophs 22:36 (32nd), Shelby next at 22:55 (43rd)
St. Francis Cross Country teams cranked up the heat Saturday before temperatures skyrocketed upward. Saturday, October 25th, the St. Francis XC teams competed in the 61st Annual Mt. SAC Invitational. Nicole Mendoza won the DII Varsity race with a blistering 18:22, which is a St. Francis record at Mt. SAC by over a minute, and followed closely behind by Maureen May who also ran a tremendous time of 19:30, which places her in the top 10 of St. Francis runners at Mt. SAC. April Rosas-Willett won the DII Frosh race in 20:05 and was followed closely behind by Leah Campbell who got 3rd place in 20:28. The Frosh team won with a score of 50 pts. which was 42 pts. ahead of the next team. Camille Dyer, Susan Frazier, Devyn Andrews, Ridgely Provencal, and Jessica Diaz teamed up with April and Leah to place themselves 3rd on the all-time Mt. SAC DII Frosh list. This Frosh team joins three other St. Francis teams that were on the all-time Mt. SAC DIII Soph list. This year was the first time in the history of St. Francis that we had two individual winners and one team winner. Joanna Vargas led the JV team to a respectable 12th place out of 29 teams and Ella Winje led the Soph team to a exceptional 9th place out of 30 teams. All of this success is quite heady considering that Mt. SAC Invitational is the nation's largest cross country race and this was the 61st year it has been held. After the races Saturday, the girls celebrated by "going to Disneyland." Congratulation SF Cross Country for a super hot weekend of racing. I want to thank all my parent drivers and chaperone's for Mt SAC: Jeff Anderson, Sig Csicsery, Judy Mendoza, Lloyd and Barbara Burns, Terri and Brian Esparza, Linda and Tim Frazier, Angie and Dean Fuhs, Amy Porter, Steve and Beatty May, James and Debbie Openshaw, Lynn and Brian Provencal, Luz Smith, Mark and Judy Vollmer, Rich Willet, Erik and Lynda Winje, and Coach Tom...

NICOLE MENDOZA wins another invitational... this time she holds off Sarah Tusting of Benicia. Sarah won Lagoon Valley and was 3rd at Ed Sias, so she's a fine runner. Nicole and Sarah are club teammates but Nicole was all business during this race and just missed Maria Malone's meet record by six seconds. (BTW Maria was 6th at the state meet in the 3200 meter race...she's in our league and hopefully she'll be back by leagues.) But anyway, the St Francis varsity (without Erin Matranga) took 2nd to Ponderosa by a narrow margin in the varsity race 48-53. (Ponderosa was without their #2: Kelly Roberts.) Moriah Haworth, Ana Winje, and Macy Fuhs took the number 5-6-7 spots for the varsity. Meanwhile in the JV's Erin Matranga led the team to an easy JV team victory. Erin had a time of 17:25 in the uncommon 4250 meter distance, taking 3rd place, and hooray for Marion Styer who got a Top 10 finish... 8th, yay! St Francis got 4th in the sophomore girls race with 16th place Shelby Vollmer leading the way there. The Troubies put 3 in the Top 7 and gave Davis a battle, but had to settle for 2nd place in the frosh race. Top Ten froshskis for SF were Leah Campbell 2nd, Camille Dyer 6th, and Jennifer Lum 7th. So a first, two seconds, and a fourth for team scoring... another nice effort by the St Francis harriers. NOW... go have fun in LA.
