Rules (Grades 3&4)

·        A registration form/waiver/release form must be completed prior to the first game.

·        Each team will have no more than 10 players and no less than 5 players.

·        Coaches must arrive 15 minutes before game time.

Warm-ups:

·        Each team will have at least 5 minutes to warm up before game time.

Time Limits:

·        A game will consist of four (4) six (6) minute quarters with a running clock and a five (5) minute half time.

·        The clock starts when the basketball goes into play (girl in play touches the ball). 

·        Clock stops only during a time-out, injury, referee discretion and foul shots and at the whistle during the last two (2) minutes of the game and any overtime period.

·        One overtime period of three minutes will be played, if the score is tied at the end of the regular game.

·        Time-outs - Two (2) one (1) minute time-outs per half.

Foul shots:

·        Each player will get two foul shots before the start of the game.  Each foul shot will count as one point.

·        Both teams will take the same number of foul shots (i.e., if one team only has 7 players and the other team has 8 players, the team with 7 players can designate a player to shoot an additional two foul shots.

·        For the first half of the season, the free throw line will be half-way between the normal free throw line and the basket. For the second half of the season, the free throw line will be the normal free throw line.

 Fast Break:

·        No fast breaks are permitted on rebounds. Fast breaks are permitted on stolen balls. This is at referee discretion.

Offense:

·        The offensive team has ten (10) seconds to cross the center-line with the ball.

·        When passing the ball in, the team has five (5) seconds to throw the ball in.

Defense:

·        Zone or man-to-man defense may be used.

·        The defense will be restricted inside the three-point area until 2 consecutive offensive passes have been completed.

·        The ball must be over half court prior to the 2 consecutive passes. In bounds passes do not count as one pass.

·        Half court defense is permitted for the last two (2) minutes of each half and any overtime periods - as long as the point difference is less than 10 points.

Fouls:

·        If a player gets five (5) fouls, she is out of the game. This player may not under any circumstances remain in the game.

·        A team may continue to play with less than 5 players only if no other player is available.

·        Any player that fouls out during the regular game will not be allowed to play in any overtime periods.

Technical Foul:

·        In case of a technical foul, the offended team will be awarded 2 free throws and possession of the ball. Any player may shoot the free throws.

     Free Throws:

·        A team will shoot (1 and 1) on the 7th team foul in each half.

·        A team will shoot 2 free throws on the 10th team foul in each half.

·        Fouls in the act of shooting and intentional fouls will always result in 2 free throws for the fouled player.

Playing time:

·        All girls must play at least 50% of the game and each girl must sit out a minimum of 3 minutes in each half of the game. This rule only applies when there are more than 5 players on a team at a game.
