Welcome to the 2011-2012 Serra Mesa Little League Season!

Groundskeeper Gone Wild!

Coach Andy Carver had a little fun putting down the baselines during the rain on Saturday.  Actually, the chalk for the baselines is gypsum, a very soft sufate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate.  It is a mineral that helps to loosen hard clay soil, such as what is found in the Majors/Minors infield.  The rain will soften the infield soil, allowing the gypsum to seep into the dirt.  Following the rains, the infield is expected to be very soft and will be dragged with spikes, breaking down the hard-packed clay and allowing the gypsum to mix into the soil.  This should help to soften the clay and make for a very playable infield for the boys!
