OPEN LETTER FROM THE HEAD COACH
On behalf of my staff and myself, I would like to welcome you to Inglewood Jr. All-American Football League. Our team is the Midget Division Sentinels and this is our Official Website for the season. Our participants range from 12-14 years old.
As I begin my 22nd season of coaching our youth, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join our Sentinel Family, become a volunteer, the players and cheerleaders will surely thank you for it. Many of you would like to help out I know, but somehow just can't seem to find the time. But time is what you make it - it's just a matter of priority. And what higher priority can there be than the growth and development of your children.
The purpose of this program is to build character in our young people, to teach responsibility and the meaning of commitment, and to teach the positive values of honesty, fair play and sportsmanship. With your help and support we can work together to reenforce these very important values. I look forward to having the opportunity to meet and greet each of you as the season progresses.
Best Wishes for a Successful Season in 2000.
T. Kevin Jarrett
Head Coach
Sentinels Football
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and goodwill sheperds the weak through the Valley of Darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know, my name is the lord, when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Perfection Is Never Easy
Mission Viejo (AP) - With the clock showing zeros and his fourth championship secure at last, Coach T. pulled off his cap and wiped his brow.
He had a right to feel relieved. Perfection is never easy.
The Inglewood Sentinels, led by Brian Flowers and Larry Woods, gave its retiring coach his second undefeated season with a 24-3 victory over Jeff Clayton's undefeated Garden Grove Panthers in the 43rd Super Bowl.
"This team was supposed to do it, and they did it," Coach T. said today. "You can bet your life it is a very special moment."
Coach T. also talked about the championship after the game.
"I'm as glad for my guys and Inglewood JAAFL that we were able to share it together," he said Saturday night. "It's a milestone. To win a Super Bowl and retire with an undefeated team."
On December 2, 2000 at 10:17pm the Sentinels accomplished their mission of perfection. After demoralizing the Midget Division, Never Trailing in a game and allowing only four touchdowns in the season. They concluded a Perfect Season by pounding the previously undefeated Garden Grove Panthers 24-3 at Mission Viejo High School.
After chillaxing at Coach Harvey's home, the team boarded a charter bus to begin their trip into history, going for Back 2 Back Super Bowl tiles, the first team since 1975-76 to accomplish this feat. Our Captain Brian Flowers, along with the second year Sentinels' gave a heart warming speech to the team. As everyone settled back for the two hour ride, I had another little perk for the team. Flipping the switch we had a private viewing of the hot new movie 'Remember the Titans' for the voyage down the 405.
Arriving early, 5:16pm, allowed the players to soak up the atmosphere of the days festiities. The team posed for their Super Bowl Team Picture (shown above), and the it was time to warm up and begin focusing on the matter at hand.
After a short delay as the Head Coach protesting the opposing team in wearing their white jerseys, since we had won the coin flip at the conference banquet, and had the choice of jersey color, the Panthers finally changed to their dark jersey.
After protests from his staff Head Coach T. agreed to a midfield Team Prayer. This showed unity and allow the players to show Sportsmanship, realizing that this is only a game. Garden Grove's Head Coach Jeff Clayton had a surprise and presented Coach T. a trophy signaling his final game in Orange County. After the presentation and team prayer, Coach T. huddle the team up before introductions and told them one simple thing, "What they just did was class, Now it's time to tap that ass."
The Sentinels won the coin flip and everything else this evening. Coach T. chose his customary deferment to the second half, and kicked off to the Panthers. After battling back and forth for the first couple possesions, feeling each other out, the first quarter had come to an end with the Sentinels taking over deep in their own territory at the 14 yard line. The teams switched ends of the field and the Sentinels faced a third down and 12 yards to go. QB Larry Woods faded back and looked across the middle as TE Chet Sanders tried to shake his defender, Woods threw a high arc pass and Sanders picked it off high in the air and never broke stride as he took it 86 yards to the house, giving the Sentinels the lead. Woods pass to Andrew Simpson for the extra point was broken up, so with 9:47 left in the second period the score was 6-0.
Later in the period, The Panthers would get their deepest position in Inglwood terriory as they completed their only pass of the game for a first and goal from the nine yard line. Coach T. turned the Doggs' loose and when the smoke had cleared Garden Grove was facing fourth down and goal from the same nine yard line. They lined up and kicked an 26-yard field goal making the score 6-3 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter the defense shut down the run game for the Panthers and they tried to go to the air, bad idea. CB D'Andre Hall picked off the pass at the twenty and returned it 58 yards to the 22 yard line and Garden Grove was hit with their first of many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. This gave Inglewood a first down from the 12 yard line and Sentinels took immediately advantage as QB Larry Woods rolled left and took the ball down to the 4 yard line and RB Brian Flowers scored on burst up the middle for a touchdown. The extra-point was no good as the lead increased to 12-3 with 4:41 left in the period.
The fourth quarter began with Sentinels pinning the Panthers on their own 3 yard line. The Defense would force an errant pass and SS Larry Woods picked it off and returned it to the 37 yard line. Then things got weird. The class of a champion is being able control your emotions as others can not. On three consecutive plays Garden Grove was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The third foul caused a small altercation that was soon squashed. When play resume the ball was at the 7 yard line and on third down, that man, Brian Flowers took it 7 yards to the house as he bowled over a final defender for an 18-3 advantage.
With 3:15 remaining Garden Grove, hoping to erase their failure of losing last year to the Sentinels, took over at the 27 yard and went into pass mode. Bad choice. First down pass attemt, resulted in the receiver being drilled by SS Larry Woods and the following three attempts fluttering to the ground untouched.
The final nail was driven into coffin as the Sentinels ran an reverse and caught the Panthers sleeping and WR Matthew Simon took the handoff and went down the sidelines for a 53 yard touchdown, sealing Garden Grove (11-1) worst nightmare.
Garden Grove's offense took the field for their final time, realizing that this was twice that they got to the big game and was smacked down by the Sentinels, ended up throwing wild passes into a cover two defense and CB Anthony Bell climbed the ladder and secured another interception. The Sentinels (11-0), went into their victory formation and took a knee and killed the clock and ran off the field as the first newly crowned Super Bowl Champion of the new century.
Congratulations to all the Players, Staff, Cheerleaders, Parents and Sentinels' Fans for your Support during the season. Although obstacles were place in our path we found ways to resolve matters in a postive manner to teach all what "Good Sportmanship" is all about.
A Final Farewell to Coach T. as he finshed his career where he stated it in 1979, with his only Head Coaching appearence, with controversary over the Team Name, only 1 Home Game on a eight game schedule, Game Bus not showing up for the League Championship game, Having to meet at 6AM for opening Playoff game and traveling 48 miles to play we survived and achieved the impossible dream. A PERFECT SEASON.
