2013 Regional - Game 18

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ -- Alex Pelchin threw six strong innings and Drew Jarmuz was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs led KAU Little League from Kennett Square, PA to a Senior League Baseball World Series bid and a 6-2 win over Quincy, MA in the championship round of the Senior League Baseball East Regional on Wednesday afternoon.

KAU will face Laredo, TX in its first world series game on Sunday at 5:30 pm at Bangor, ME's Mansfield Stadium.

Pelchin hurled six innings before hitting the pitch count maximum. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out three. Ryan Barrett came on to close out the win in the seventh.

Quincy scored twice in the third to take an early lead. An RBI double by Patrick Keohane opened the scoring. Quincy added another run on a throwing error late in the inning.

Jarmuz however tied the score in the bottom half of the inning with the first home run by anyone in the regional, a two-run shot over the wall in left-center.

KAU took the lead for good in the fifth. Consecutive singles by Jarmuz and Jake Freeman opened the inning to put runners at the corners. Pechin helped his own cause with a perfect suicide squeeze bunt up the first base line to give his team a lead they would not surrender.

KAU added three more runs in that inning as insurance.

It is the first time since 1999 that a Pennsylvania team was at the Senior League World Series. That year, Franklin, PA won the Senior League East Regional. It is also the fourth different state to win the regional in the last four years, which hasn't happened since 1994-97.
