South Vineland, N.J. earns spot in regional final with win over Suffern, N.Y., 9-4
WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. – Chris Bell hurled 6-1/3 inning on the mound and helped his own cause with a home run and four RBIs as South Vineland, N.J. advanced to the championship round with a 9-4 win over Suffern, N.Y. at the Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional on Tuesday.
South Vineland, which appeared in the regional final in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and won three titles in that time, will face an opponent to be determined Thursday at 5 p.m. Suffern will wait for an opponent in Wednesday’s 8 p.m. elimination bracket game.
Both teams’ No. 1 pitchers struggled early on and the score was tied 4-4 through three innings. But South Vineland plated three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach. They threatened to score just about all day, leaving 14 runners stranded.
Bell is now 5-for-7 in three regional games with eight RBIs. He allowed five hits and four runs on the mound Tuesday before hitting the 95-pitch maximum in the seventh.
Richie Glover had two hits and two RBIs for Suffern in a losing effort.
