Saturday, August 8 2009 Regional - Game 3 WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. – Barrington, R.I. scored in six of its eight at-bats, but had to rally from a six-run deficit and survive a four-run seventh-inning rally to down West Deptford, N.J., 23-16, in eight innings Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional action Saturday night. The marathon took 3 hours, 57 minutes, the longest game in the 19-year regional history at West Deptford. It was also the highest scoring game in the 19 years of regional play at West Deptford. The previous mark was 33 runs by Biddeford, Maine (17) and Swampscott, Mass. (16) on August 15, 1991 – the first year the regional was in West Deptford. Lost in the effort was West Deptford’s Ryan Kelly hitting for the cycle in four consecutive at-bats. He homered in the bottom of the seventh – a two-run shot to left-center – that began a four-run seventh for West Deptford that tied the game at 16-16. The teams might not have much for the rest of the week after this one. They combined to use 13 pitchers – seven for West Deptford and six for Barrington. With the score tied at 16-all, Barrington batted around for the third time in the game, plating seven runs to take what might usually be a comfortable lead. Luckily, as light rain moved in, Barrington retired West Deptford without any more damage. Barrington (8-1, 2-0 regional) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a run in the first on a lead off home run by Colin Fay and a four-run third. But West Deptford (8-2, 0-1 regional) scored 11 times in the bottom of the third to tie another regional record for runs in an inning and take an 11-5 lead. The host district champs sent 15 batters to the plate and had just six hits to take a six-run lead. But Barrington scored once in the fourth, six times in the fifth and four more in the sixth to take a 16-12 lead into the seventh inning. Kelly finished the day 4-for-6 with six RBIs for West Deptford. Austin Brown was 4-for-6 with five RBIs for Barrington, which will face Suffern, NY at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
