2009 Regional - Game 6
WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. – Luke Daghir worked 6-2/3 innings on the mound to pick up the win, scattering five hits and Luke Nicklas homered as St. Mary’s, Pa. downed Weston, Mass., 5-1, Saturday afternoon at the 2009 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional Tournament.
Daghir came out one out shy of a complete game after hitting the 95-pitch maximum, surrendering a single to Max Kardon on his final batter. Kardon’s pinch-runner Adam Stewart eventually ended the shutout bid when he came around to score on a wild pitch.
Nicklas staked St. Mary’s to a 2-0 lead in the second when he smacked a two-run homer over the right-centerfield wall. A single run in the fourth extended the lead to 3-0 before two more in the fifth gave St. Mary’s a comfortable lead.
Ryan Uhl had two hits for St. Mary’s, including an RBI single in the fifth. Zack Cannon had two of Weston’s six hits in the game.
St. Mary’s will face the winner of Calais, Maine-South Vineland, N.J. in the 8 p.m. game Sunday. Weston will play in an elimination game on Monday at 1 p.m.
