2008 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional – Game 22 WEST DEPTFORD, NJ - Andrew Owens held Naamans at bey for most of five innings and Darren Fischer came on to record a save with two shutout innings in relief as North Cumberland, NJ topped Naamans Little League of Wilmington, DE, 7-3, in the championship round of the Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional on Thursday night at Union Field. North Cumberland will face Villinus, Lithuania in Bangor, ME on Sunday at 5:30 pm in the opening day of action at the Senior Little League World Series. North Cumberland took advantage of five Naamans errors, while all seven of its hits came from the five batters in their line-up. North Cumberland erased Naamans’ early 1-0 lead with a four-spot in the second. An RBI single by Gage Mick tied the game, followed by a two-run single by Darren Fischer to give the New Jersey state champions a 3-1 lead. After North Cumberland stretched it to 5-1 in the top of the third, Naamans cut it to two in the bottom half of the inning. Mike LaPlante’s RBI double made it a 5-2 game and Patrick Aitken’s ground out scored another run to make it 5-3. The score stayed that way until the seventh, when North Cumberland took advantage of three errors to push across a pair of insurance runs. Naamans got two hits from LaPlane and John Talley to account for four of their six hits. New Jersey’s state champion has now won each of the last eight regional titles and has won 25 straight games in regional tournament play.
