2008 Regional - Game 20
2008 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional – Game 20 WEST DEPTFORD, NJ - After pitching out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the seventh, Naamans Little League of Wilmington, DE pushed a run across the top of the eight to squeak past Wappinger, NY, 5-4, in eight innings. With runners at first and second and two outs, Kevin Czachorowski hit a bloop behind second base. Mike Julian raced around to score and break the deadlock. Wappinger (13-2, 4-2 regional) got two runners on in the bottom half of the inning. But Jared Carney coaxed Brian Tompkins into a fly out to left to end the game. It was the third extra-inning game of the regional, the first time in 18 years of regional play in West Deptford that it has happened, and the second one involving Wappinger. Wappinger had a chance to win it in the seventh when they loaded the bases with nobody out. But Corey Gaillinari bounced into a 5-2-3 double play and Moises Cuevas flew out to left to end the inning. Naamans (10-2, 3-1 regional) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first two frames. Josh Talley plated the game’s first run with an RBI single in the first. Naamans could have done a whole lot more damage, but left the bases loaded. Naamans’ Jarad Carney made it 2-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly, scoring Quentin Burslem. Wappinger tied the game in the third when a Naamans throwing error plated two. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings gave Wappinger a 4-2 lead. The go ahead run scored on another Naamans throwing error, while the fourth run scored on a bases loaded walk by Gallinari. Naamans tied it in the sixth on a bad hop single to third off the bat of Mike Julian. Playing third, Gallinari dove towards the line, but the ball spun up on him on the short hop, caroming off his glove and into foul territory. Patrick Aitken scored from third and Constantine Fournaris raced home from second to tie the game.
