2008 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional – Game 18
WEST DEPTFORD, NJ - After rallying to take the lead in the top of the seventh and surrendering it in the bottom of the seventh, Wappinger, NY scored six times in the top of the ninth to stave off elimination and top Barrington, RI, 10-4, Tuesday evening at the Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional.
Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, Wappinger pushed three across with just one hit in the inning. The lone hit came with the first batter of the inning when Brian Stewart singled off of the pitcher’s leg. Two walks, two errors and a hit batter later, Wappinger had a 4-3 lead.
Barrington’s Rick Westernholm answered to lead off the bottom of the seventh when he hit a solo home run to left to tie the game and force extra frames.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Wappinger broke through for six in the ninth. An RBI single by Nick Margerum broke the tie, but the big blow in the inning came off the back of Ed Wickline. Wickline slugged a three-run homer to left to make it 7-4 and shift all of the momentum to Wappinger.
Dan Ginader and Rob Soljusiak combined to pitch a scoreless ninth to close it out. Wappinger outhit Barrington, 11-10, in the game. Stewart finished 3-for-4 off the bench for Wappinger. Brendan McNaught had three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth, to lead Barrington.
Wappinger will face Naamans Little League of Wilmington, DE at 5 pm Wednesday in an elimination game. The winner of that game will have to play again at 8 pm Wednesday.
