2008 Regional - Game 5
WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – Naamans Little League from Wilmington, DE scored 12 runs over the final three innings to rally from a 4-2 deficit and defeat Wappinger, NY, 14-4, in Saturday evening action at the Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional. Jared Carney was the story of the night for Naamans, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored, while also picking up the win on the mound. He fired six innings and allowed four runs – all of which came in the third inning. He struck out six and walked one in the winning effort. Naamans took the lead in the fourth with a three-spot. Kevin Czachorowski broke a 4-4 tie with a single just inside the left field line. An inning later, Naamans sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six times on seven hits to blow the game wide open. Three more runs in the sixth triggered the 10-run rule. Frank Backer was 2-for-2 with a run scored for Wappinger, which fell into the elimination bracket. The New York champions batted around in the fourth, scoring four times on four hits to erase a 2-0 Naamans lead. The first five batters in the inning reached base in the inning, but that was really the only time they were able to get to Carney all night. Naamans will face Du Bois, PA, last year’s regional runner-up, in a 5 pm game on Monday. Wappinger will face Gloucester, MA in a 3 pm elimination game on Sunday.
