2008 Regional - Game 1
WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – Brian Stewart tossed 6-2/3 innings of shutout baseball and Dan Ginader recorded the final out by strikeout to close it out as Wappinger, NY defeated Glassboro, NJ, 4-0, on the opening day of the 2008 Senior Little League Eastern Regional at Union Field on Friday evening. Stewart struck out three and walked two before being lifted for the pitch-count rule. He threw 96 pitches and scattered seven hits in the win. After escaping a bases-loaded one-out jam in the top of the first, Wappinger jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Corey Gallinari and Moises Cuevas opened the inning with consecutive singles. They both came around to score later in the inning on an infield ground out and a wild pitch. The score remained the same until the sixth when Wappinger scored twice again. Dan Ginader singled to make it a 3-0 lead, plating Frank Backer, who had walked to start the inning. Ed Wickline followed and drove the second run of the inning home with an RBI single. It looked like he had driven two home on the play, but the second runner was called out on appeal for missing third base. But that was more than enough for Stewart as Wappinger advanced to face Naamans Little League of Wilmington, DE at 5 pm on Saturday. Glassboro, which got two hits from Kyle Jones, will play at 6 pm on Sunday against an opponent to be determined. Tournament Schedule Friday, August 1
