Tuesday, August 8 2006 Regional - Game 19 WEST DEPTFORD, NJ Bloomfield scored three times in the bottom of the sixth and Kevin Miller retired the side in the seventh to earn a save as the New Jersey state champs beat local district NJ-15 champs West Deptford, 5-3, in the winners bracket final at the 2006 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional Tuesday night. Bloomfield advances to Thursday championship round and a 5 pm game against an opponent to be determined. West Deptford will play at 8 pm Wednesday against the winner of the 5 pm game between Auburn, MA and Camden-Wyoming, DE. The Eastern Regional Champion will open play at the Senior Little League World Series in Bangor, ME against Brussels, Belgium on Sunday, August 13 at 5:30 pm in Mansfield Stadium. West Deptford opened the scoring in the top of the first. With two outs, Scott Renauro walked and stole second. Jake Rifkin then deposited a single just inside the right field line to score Renauro from second and give the host District NJ-15 champs a 1-0 lead. The lead became 2-0 in the top of the third on Jake Leises RBI single, but Bloomfield responded in the bottom half of the inning. Pinch-hiter Jason Chesterman got Bloomfield on the board with an RBI single to cut the lead in half. Bloomfield tied it in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. After a West Deptford error gave Bloomfield a baserunner, Chestermans RBI groundout scored Thomas Petrillo to tie it 2-2. West Deptford regained the lead momentarily in the top of the sixth when starting pitcher Jim Fox helped his own cause with an RBI single that scored pinch-runner Jeremy Hackney. But Bloomfield answered in the bottom half. The New Jersey state champions scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. A leadoff walk followed by a bunt single by John DelVecchio created trouble quickly and sent Fox to the end of his night on the mound. A throwing error on the relay of a double play ball, however, allowed Michael Andrade to score from second and tie the game, 3-3. Vincent DelVecchio, who earned the win on the mound, followed with a double to score the go-ahead run from first. He would later come around to score after a wild pitch and another West Deptford fielding miscue. Vincent DelVecchio hurled six innings, allowing just four hits and three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out five, but did issue seven walks. He also doubled twice, scoring twice and driving in what wound up being the game-winner. All five runs allowed by West Deptford pitching were unearned on the night.
