Tuesday, August 8 2006 Regional - Game 16 WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – Eric Szuhany came around to score from first base after a single to center off the bat of Vincent DelVecchio was misplayed to give Bloomfield, NJ a 5-4 victory over Montoursville, PA in the completion of a suspended game at the 2006 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional on Tuesday morning at Union Field. The winner’s bracket contest was halted Monday night shortly after 9:30 pm with five innings complete and the score tied, 4-4, due to lightning in the area associated with a severe thunderstorm north of the city of Philadelphia. That storm, coupled with an additional storm approaching from the west, caused tournament officials to suspend play for the night just before 10:30. Bloomfield, NJ will face West Deptford, NJ, the local host District NJ-15 champion, Tuesday night at 7:30 pm. Montoursville, PA will face Camden-Wyoming, DE at 4:30 pm in an elimination bracket contest. After a scoreless sixth inning, Montoursville got its leadoff man on to open the seventh when Marc Schoch walked. He was bunted over to second by Matt Miller. However, the Pennsylvania state champs could not capitalize as Bloomfield reliever Michael Chiaravalloti got a fly out to center and a ground out to second to end the threat. In the bottom of the seventh, Molesky came onto pitch and retired the first batter he faced before Szuhany singled to right. DelVecchio then followed with a single to center, which was misplayed. Szuhany never broke stride and raced all the way around from first to score the game-winner and put Bloomfield into Tuesday night’s winner’s bracket final. On Monday, Bloomfield starting pitcher Richard Monroig was just wild enough to be effective for a while. Over the first four innings, he walked five and struck out four. The only hit he allowed was on a bunt single, which also wound up being the only hit Montoursville would have in the game. After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the first, coming after a wild throw by Monroig on another bunt, 10 of the next 13 batters he faced. Monroig had a hand in getting the score even in the bottom of the first, a pop-up he hit to second was dropped and then thrown wild to the plate trying to cut down DelVecchio from third. Two batters later, a wild pitch scored Kevin Miller with the tying run. Bloomfield took a 4-2 lead in the third. With runners at second and third and Monrig, the clean-up hitter in Bloomfield’s line-up, at the plate, Montoursville elected to stay out of a big inning and play the infield back. Monrig’s grounder to second scored the go-ahead run. But the plan backfired when Jason Chesterman lined an RBI single to left to make it two-run lead. In the top of the fifth, Monrig walked the bases loaded, however, and that singled the end of his night on the mound. Chris DelliPaoli, coming in relief, walked the first batter he faced, Ryan Welker, to force in a run and make it a 4-3 game. It looked like DelliPaoli was on his way out of trouble when he struck out Zach Kurtz, but then a passed ball allowed Schoch to score from third and tie the game. An outstanding defensive play kept the game tied in the fifth. With two outs, Chiaravalloti singled to right. Pinch-runner Daniel Bataille executed a perfect delayed steal of second to move into scoring position.
