New Jersey holds on after Late-inning New York Rally

New York was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against New Jersey on Friday, as New York fell 5-4 at Union Field after falling behind by three runs in the seventh inning.

New York scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Andrew Gallousis. Still, New York couldn't draw even.

New Jersey was led by Matt Goehrig's hitting. Goehrig went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

David Torres got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He pitched two shutout innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit.

Krishan Weber ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed four runs.

The bottom of the second saw New York take an early lead, 2-0. Dylan Harrigan started the rally for New York with a single. An error then moved Harrigan from first to second. New York then tacked on more runs when Smith scored on a bases loaded walk by Joseph Matos.

New Jersey didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the fifth inning when it scored on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Anthony Delgado.
